It's hard to believe so many here were upset with the price Hughes paid for this dynamic, young player. As I posted shortly after the trade was announced, a couple of knowledgeable Avalanche fans that I work with, were really upset with their team's decision to give up on Newhook. They, like this writer, agreed that you trade that type of dynamic skating at your franchise's peril. It was a gutsy trade at the time but, as is becoming so apparent, it's a trade that will benefit the Canadiens for the rest of this decade.Newhook is worth tuning in to watch. He needs a supporting cast.
I see a player with solid 2nd line potential. Nothing wrong with that.I like the way he plays.
I'm not sure he's a top line forward, but he definitely has the skills to develop into a 2nd line player/surefire top 6 guy.
While I think he's had a good start to his tenure in Montreal, I still don't think we've seen the best of him yet. He has a very solid shot, and he can use that more.I like the way he plays.

I'm half those kind of Newfoundlanders, but also half a skeet. He is known locally as having a very good attitude and his family are all hard workers and high achievers.
So does Dach,oh and a couple of crutches too.Newhook is worth tuning in to watch. He needs a supporting cast.
Avs fan here in peace checking un on Newie. Glad he started well and have no doubts he will succeed.Yes.
Exactly this , well put.I have watched Colorado a lot and felt that he had much potential. Colorado fans were frustrated at his inability to produce last year when it was so critical with Kadri gone. He was given opportunity to do so on both the second and third lines and...it didn't pan out. He was paired with good people but it just didn't happen.
Narratives began about why that I thought weren't accurate. He is a great skater which some questioned as the problem. Others thought he didn't have enough compete which I also thought was false. His boardwork is not the best but not woeful. It is very possible that he will blossom with time. I personally am rooting for the kid and think this is just another case where a change of scenery was best for all. Looks like he will get ample opportunity with the unfortunate Dach injury.
Yah, he's pretty damn good. I think he's definitely better at W. It's really a f***ing shame Dach got hurt. For me, this kid is the biggest surprise this year. He much, much better than I thought he was.
He's okay. I would've liked more darts in the 2023 draft, but nothing indicates they would've picked the right players.
Jury's still out, but I'm not as hyped about this acquisition as some other fans.
Darts w unknown probability of ever playing a single NHL game vs an asset who IS without doubt an NHL regular… really? He's okay. I would've liked more darts in the 2023 draft, but nothing indicates they would've picked the right players.

Newhook is clearly a winger. I'm hoping when Dvorak comes back that he Newhook will flank Monahan.
His skills don't translate well as a centre.
2023 was one of the best draft in recent years, some compared it to 2015. It's a gamble. Sometimes you get a bust, but sometimes you get a Aho.Darts w unknown probability of ever playing a single NHL game vs an asset who IS without doubt an NHL regular… really?
Monahan shouldn't be wasted on Gallagher and Pearson. He's better on the wing; the Dach injury has impacts on Newhook and Slafkovsky specifically.
