So who else are we targeting from the 2019 draft that could be a good rehab project? Kakko? Turcotte (ish)? Podkolzin?
Heh, after Hughes said that the 2019 draft would go down as an extremely strong one, I was wondering the same thing. Wouldn’t mind Podkolzin, or even Tomasino

I’d go with Laferriere… We can play him at center over Suzuki! Lol Does anyone remember the horrific bias we are slowly recovering from as a franchise? It’s been obscene by all accounts! Unf***ing believable! Hell! Let’s throw in Rienbacker(sp) as well!

Actually I think Newhook can be another Keller. Or close to it. A lot of similarities. Both first round picks, smaller left shot winger. Both but up similar numbers in same league as 19 year old. Although Keller's numbers were smiggen better. One with BU other with Boston College. Keller didn't break out until he was 23. Keller had decent first year then struggled for two years.
They got Newhook at 5' 10'' 192 lbs,sounds solid

Still crickets on the contract offer? Signed???

Should we be worried?
I read somewhere (I think it was on The Athletic) there may be cap shenanigans related to Newhook contract. The habs may be motivated to only sign him at the last minute (or even after the season has started) in order to remain under the cap during the offseason.

Thought we could be over by 10% during the offseason.........still room there I think.

Let's hope there is a deal in place and we get him signed by Oct1

He’s a Hughes ex-client. They wouldn’t have traded for him if he wasn’t a 5-star human being.

Is there a list of Hughes ex-clients still playing in the NHL out there somewhere. That might give us some idea of players Hughes may be looking to trade for just like Dubas did with his obsession of picking up his former Soo guys.

Don’t know if there’s a direct correlation to be had but out of curiosity, might be interesting to know.

A parallel pipeline of course has to do with players that were drafted by Gorton in NY.

Hughes and Gorton probably have an inside bet about which is bound to produce more Habs — Quartexx clients or Gorton draftees. Now if a player has a foothold in both, his chances of getting targeted become that much more significant. At least, in theory.

Dach signed his contract September 7th.

So, I'm sure Hughes and Co are trying to get Newhook on a deal with some term at a decent price, so if he works out great. If he doesn't, not a hard contract to get rid of

Obviously not the exact same player types but hoping this ends up like the Kyle Palmieri trade the Devils did with Ducks back in the day.

I think they sign the rfa contract the latest as possible to maximise cap space. So, I think Newhook will probably sign his contract later on even though it is porbably agreed upon alreeady.

This contract seems like it’ll be the next move to happen. Still haven’t had an introductory presser yet either…
