A couple of Avs media guys that follow the Avs closely really don't think much of him:

I hope they are ready to look stupid.

my thoughts (my 2 cents):

- Newhook may be too small to play with nick and cole
- I'd like to keep RHP with Anderson because of how much he helped Anderson. But if Anderson can do as well with other players, cool.
- Given we have 5 good wingers plus Dvo who I want to get his trade value up, I'd go with a center line of Suzuki, Dach, Monahan so all the wingers and Dvo get to play with a good offensive C.

Monahan playing well as a C, Dvo producing at a pace of 50+ points per 82 games on the wing, and Anderson producing could give us 3 good trade chips come TDL.
Hughes have up a first and second in stacked draft for Newhook. He plays in top 6 guaranteed. Why would he pay an arm and leg for bottom 6 winger

Why does every prospect highlight video have to have mute worthy music
Gotta be a repository for failed songwriters and bands obliterated by substances. Meantime, the video guy only cares that he’s getting free music.

I don't think they paid an arm and leg for him. It's not likely the guys picked at 31 and 37 are gonna be better than him.
They did roll the dice on Newhook instead of rolling the dice on picks 31 and 37.

Last year with picks 33 and 62 they got Beck and Hutson. For sure I'd take Beck and Hutson over Newhook. I'd take Hutson alone over Newhook, and maybe even Beck.

But no guarantees 31 and 37 or even one of them will be as good as Hutson and Beck... I was really looking forward to seeing how well our scouts would do with those picks after the Beck, Hutson, and Engstrom picks last year. I'd like to see Hughes get more late 1sts, 2nds, and 3rds.

Well we could've gotten Cristall and Hrabal with 31 and 37. Would've preferred that to Newhook AINEC.

''only 22'' are you serious
I'm not following you. What are you saying?

Yeah we'll see how this turns out. No guarantees Newhook, Cristall, or Hrabel pan out.

Hughes chose to put his money on Newhook. We await the results...

Newhook is right behind Caufield in scoring in his draft year. He has two 30 point seasons playing mostly 3rd line minutes. Nick in his first 2 years had 40 point seasons playing top 6 minutes. I think the guy is still very young and he IS on our team so perhaps we should give him a bit of a break to see how he develops before trashing him.

So who else are we targeting from the 2019 draft that could be a good rehab project? Kakko? Turcotte (ish)? Podkolzin?

Keep saying it............Newhook will get a ton of chances with more TOI with us, than he did with the Avs.......this could very well be another Dach type of situation.
There was no way he was going to move up their lineup, with their top 6 taking all the PP's etc

Agreed, despite his floundering in Chicago and awful wrist injury. Dach still had/has superior upside to Newhook. No offense to Alex, but Kirby is just a better player/prospect.
Their numbers were similar at the time of negotiating a contract though.

Dach: 152 games, 59pts

Newhook: 159 games, 66pts

Although Dach was picked higher.

I'd say the deal will be similar to Dach, but probably on a shorter 2 year term.

Actually I think Newhook can be another Keller. Or close to it. A lot of similarities. Both first round picks, smaller left shot winger. Both but up similar numbers in same league as 19 year old. Although Keller's numbers were smiggen better. One with BU other with Boston College. Keller didn't break out until he was 23. Keller had decent first year then struggled for two years.
