I love Johnson. But that is an absolutely dreadful take.

He should have peaked at 22 years old? What was he saying about Dach last year?
Dach was a different case, we saw they untapped potential and big take longer to develop.

Newhook I really don’t see anything (and I really like him in dis draft year)

Probably Hughes doesn't see what he likes between 31 and 37 unless there is a faller. It's still an interesting strategy that rather than TDL UFA for picks, it's low budget RFA for picks. Hughes probably know the kind of contract Newhook would sign and that's also valuable.

Emotions lowered…

I guess what’s disappointing some of us is that we didn’t get a clear upgrade on our team roster today, despite trading futures away.

I’m annoyed at how many useless and apparently worthless prospects we have now. Something’s gotta give.

He wouldn't know until the time came.

As a draft nut, sure is going to lessen the fun of the next two days but...

1. Obviously Hughes is trying to get this team back in contention quicker than you can with draft picks (Dach trade last year, Newhook this year) so at least he's being consistent and following a plan.

2. The concern over the size of Newhook is overblown IMO because please take a look at the size of our head coach and how he was able to make the hall of fame. He obviously has a style of play that emphasizes speed and skill over size that was very successful, so I'm not worried to much about that. I also think that they'll be looking to moving Newhook to the wing...

3. As far as our roster crunch, (both F's and D's )to me this was always Hughes' biggest problem this offseason and am very curious how he's going to clear the space to have room for all these players especially since the older players that don't fit into the "window" that Hughes in trying to create are not attractive skill wise or contracts so I don't know how he's going to get other teams to trade for these players and not get much more than a bucket of pucks back, but we'll see.

4. I also think a trade down from 5 is a lot more likely now than before this trade especially if Michkov is available at 5. I think it makes a Leonard/ Benson pick more likely since their style of play is easier to translate to the NHL sooner so they can contribute sooner rather than later.
Re: 2

Was the whole team MSL sized or was MSL surrounded by Lecavalier and Richards and Malone sized players?

Hughes just talked about the possibility of trading down, if Michkov is still there at 5, could be listening tomorrow night for Gary's 'We have a trade to announce...'.

They will probably wait to see if one of the centers fall.
Eg Armia and 5, for 7 and 22. Replaces the first rounder lost to Colorado and clears a roster spot. Then they draft a big forward and a RD. Like... Reinbacher and Musty, or Dvorsky and Willander.

I wouldnt say that, we fullfilled our prospects pool in the last 3 yrs, we had ton of picks and at some point, we cant sign them all. Getting a kid like Newhook who is only 22 also accelerate our rebuild a bit.
