I am not overly hyped about that trade, I think Newhook is somehow a middle 6 meh player. Don’t hate necessarily the guy but I just don’t get the hype. I can be totally wrong he does like Dach this year.

If Montreal has those 6 guys + Suzuki, Dach, Slaf, etc. playing at high level, they can make a deal from a position of insane strength. Its not a big deal.

Newhook is also right around league forward average for height and weight. Its a weird thing to complain about.

The Canadiens’ focus has clearly shifted

Montreal traded a good amount of draft capital to make this deal happen, which also demonstrates a clear shift in how they view where they are in the team-building process. The cupboard of prospects like the ones they could have acquired with the 31st or 37th picks is relatively full, so using those picks to bring in Newhook is a good reflection that the Canadiens believe their window to compete will be opening relatively soon. Perhaps not as soon as next season, but sooner than a typical timeline for a team holding the No. 5 pick in the draft would be. — Basu

This was done with forward thinking, something MB couldn't do if his life depended on it. It's really nothing like MB, since MB tried to bring in old washed up players on the cheap, Hughes is clearly going after elite skating/speed high motor guys like Heinemen, Smilanic, so it's a pattern that they appear to be looking for. How it works out of course only time will tell.

The plan just seems to be "get people who can skate," but we also have to fill up a roster and we can't have a top 6 and overall roster that contains this many sub 6' players. We'll get obliterated as we always do.

If it's their plan, it's a bad plan.

I mean, look at this... it's not good.

Lmao, relax. What sort of move did Bergevin ever do that was like this? He hoarded our first round picks like he was Gollum and they were the ring (to a fault, this was not a good thing), and usually only ever did horizontal trades that incrementally improved the team.

I don't need to relax. This team have been the cucks of the NHL for 30 years, and them making loser "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" emergency backup moves to get mediocre guys that will make them smaller and weaker... All so they can accelerate the rebuild, get into the playoffs, and sell Geoff Molson some beers might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me.

My only problem with it is, if we were going to go for a 5'10 player, why not Michkov?
Yeah, that ship was never going to sail. Hopefully one member from our lame ass media will ask Hughes what kind of asset mix he’s looking to have as we’re adding small talents on an undersized team.

I dont freaking understand the overpayment for another enigmatic small player. Another small bottom 6 player. Yea

I mean i’m fine for overpayment if you get something you don’t have.
Bottom 6 in a stacked Colorado team
He had 5 game winners 2 seasons ago
