Thanks Buffdog. I enjoyed your posts in the main board. Goood job with those Habs fans

Seperately, here are my thoughts on the trade

The trade was essentially PLD for Gabe and a 2nd rounder.
Last week, Iafallo was a cap dump and is way overpaid and we were all ready to watch Kupari get non-tendered.

The reaction from this trade reeks of Fast Times at Ridgemont high when Brad's girlfriend dumped him (using the exact same verbiage he had planned out) before he dumped her and so he sulked the rest of the movie until he threw coffee on the wood be robber and got promoted

It was fun to f*** with those Habs fans.. unfortunately, it'll be up to you guys to do it starting in a couple of weeks when the first "PLD to MTL" thread on the trade board pops up with some shit lowball offer

I'll keep my eyes open for those and jump in and pile on with y'all

I legit don’t want Hellyebuck. There’s some stench of mental midget around him that I’ve seen too much of in the playoffs. We might as well retain Korpisalo

Love Vilardi's skill but my favorite prospect is still Kaliyev. Half a point per game guy last season with not much going on after the broken foot. Mostly 4th line and power play.

Supposedly just turned 22. Vilardi is 24 in August. Natural winger. Roughly the same size. Bad luck with the broken foot but a guy that has always been available to play outside of that.

The Kings will be more talented next year with this addition and then the addition of Clarke.

Still zero balls though. None of this matters until that is addressed.

He is the definition of a cap dump in that they couldn't make the trade without sending a contract back, and they picked the worst guy who is the most overpaid. His spot will be filled by a younger guy who should have already been on the team. That's what a cap dump is.

i understand how you cherry pick this, but that's not a cap dump

a cap dump is an asset that has no value

but when you can make something out of Foligno, Johansen, and freaking Alex Galchenyuk, then you can definitely make something out of a 29 year old Iafallo with 2 years left on his contract @ $4m, are you kidding me?

please don't dissect those three examples to somehow cherry pick again that i'm wrong

OF COURSE YOU CAN TRADE IAFALLO FOR SOMETHING, therefore he's not a cap dump, you need a good GM though

This team is great up the middle now. Top 3 Cs are amongst the best in the league.
There are no stupid winger contracts, which is the usual way GMs get themselves into trouble.
Kaliyev has a spot now, Todd has to play him.
McEwen can be walked out the door with no QO.
Among forwards only JAD left to sign, kids can fight their way into the team to provide depth, talking to you Fagemo.
Maybe Turcotte is salvageable as a really good 4C.

I love how everybody has such passionate opinions about a guy who played in C-bus and Winnipeg, so therefore most of us have barely seen him play. This place never changes.

Welp, it is done. Vilardi is the only part of the deal I miss, but there is no question that PLD is the best player in the deal right now. His contract has me holding my breath though and wondering if this is Kopitar's last year no matter what... Only time will tell but this is a risky deal. Fortune favors the bold but this can go south real quick. At least Blake's neck is on the line either way.

On a brighter note, the Kings have room to address goaltending now :P

I personally think the whole bad attitude thing is overblown. No one wants to be in Winnipeg or Columbus, see Jeff Carter.

I am just mad about losing Vilardi. I really think he was on the verge of exploding. The ONLY player on the Kings beside Fiala who could make any and every situation a legitimate scoring opportunity. Those players are hard to find.
Agree re attitude. He seems like an ok guy changed his number to the goalie that got killed by fireworks. I am also bummed about Vilardi.. his hands are generational thats not an overstatement. His release is top 10%. PLD has a great release also so not giving up anything there. PLD has def better wheels. I just dont think money shouldve been allocated to upgrading the forwards. Its the D and Goalie (same tune we were both singing last summer)

This trade only makes logical sense if med staff says Vilardi back is a big long term risk (doubtful).. or Kopi is going to retire for sure.. but what I really think is behind this is Luc is trying to create a little enclave for French Canadian players and staff to become a destination for quebecois talent... similar to how RedWings got the Ruski connection going in the 90s.. that is my hypothesis based on Bergovin, Rheume and now PLD
Danault too

Here’s the thing, Vilardi may not amount to much. Same for Kupari. But it’s most likely none of Rob’s moves do either, totaling up to a fat wad of nothing.

All this evidence suggests is the guy doesn’t have any of the skills to build a legit winner. WTF are we doing as Kings fans to even considering supporting the guy when all he does is double down on a 7 2 hand with someone else’s stake?

Iafallo may not have trade value, but he's a significant loss for the lineup.
His stock went up a lot for me in the playoffs but wont miss him. Still you had to move him, RV or Moore.. woudlve preferred Moore because thats a long contract. In the end you give up 2 very solid defensive players in the top 9... that will have some ramifications.
