Yes. He was a one-year rental who cost dearly. A bunch of you wanted Iafallo gone, Kupari is useless, and Dubois is more of a sure thing than Vilardi in terms of production. How is this deal worse than giving up a 1st round pick that could've likely been Mat Barzal or Kyle Connor?
People here seem to want to complain just because Blake is the GM and people are still Jaded by what he did as a player...

I don't get the negative reactions to this trade.

This is Mike Richards 2.0 for the Kings. Great deal that likely ends in a cup if they can figure out their goaltending.
I'll drink to that

Iafallo and Kupari aren't assets. Just two weeks ago or so the way people were talking about trading Iafallo made it sound like he was that Montreal package from back in the day (Ryder, Halak, 2nd). They had to cap dump Iafallo to do anything anyway.

don't include me in all of this

Iafallo is NOT a cap dump

Vilardi, Iafallo, Durzi, and Kupari is massive overpayment

This basically boils down to Vilardi for Dubois for me. Dubois is a year older, and much, more proven, but we could still come out on the losing side of this trade if he doesn't bring the goods and Vilardi continues to stay healthy and improve. I wish we could've also received one of their defenseman with size, especially since we sent out three players for one.

I said it earlier, and I'll say it again though. Blake's trades, signings, and pro scouting have been much, much better than his drafting and developing of forwards. Let's hope this trade continues that trend.

I'm with you, and I prefer Vilardi. Kupari likely tops out as a decent third liner. Iafallo is a third liner on a good team as well. No love lost. But man, I can't help but think that Vilardi might end up better than PLD. I can't help but think that he'll be a King killer any time we play the Jets, too.

With that said, here's what we might expect to see next year:

Fiala - PLD - Kempe
Byfield - Kopitar - Kaliyev
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
JAD - Lizotte - Grundstrom

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Clarke
Bjornfot - Roy

Copley
Portillo

This roster -- 12 forwards, 6 defense, 2 goalies, and assuming that JAD and Bjornfot re-sign for $850,000 each -- gets us up to $82,401,667, or $1,098,333 in cap space. There almost has to be another move in the works here unless we plan on only taking one league-minimum guy on our road trips.

Jets fan here, sorry to intrude

I'm happy with the return here but also would have been equally happy had PLD extended with us on that contract, which makes me think this could be a decent trade for both sides

He's a big, physical C who can put up points. He plays with lots of grit and draws lots of penalties (but also takes a few too many)

There will be times where he will completely take over games on his own (and also stretches where he's invisible for some reason)

I think he'll be better for you than you guys think

Yea... yikes. He's got Hammond written all over him. Now that NHL teams have half a season of film on him I think he'll get lit up.

I'm really hoping Varlamov is the move but idk how cheap he'll come. Ullmark likely isn't an option anymore. I would've liked Blackwood but he's off the market now. Every other budget option is all kinds of yikes
Might be circling back to Korpisalo now...

One thing I'm excited for is that Durzi, Walker, Iafallo, and Kupari heading out means spots are open for other players like Clarke, Spence, Fagemo, Kaliyev, Turcotte, and others. We consolidated quantity into quality (hopefully) and can upgrade for cheaper from within.

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - Dubois - Kaliyev
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
xxx - Lizotte - xxx

That's a pretty potent top 9 with plenty of depth to fill in the 4th line.

hahahahaha

You mean MacEwen Kassian Lewis and Matt Nieto

Iafallo is NOT a cap dump

He is the definition of a cap dump in that they couldn't make the trade without sending a contract back, and they picked the worst guy who is the most overpaid. His spot will be filled by a younger guy who should have already been on the team. That's what a cap dump is.

I think this is too much going on for someone I don't know at his age is a 'that guy' 1st line center, not that I believe Vilardi is, but the Kings were intent on moving out more money, so maybe that increases the cost.

Cant wait for Dubois to convert into a full time winger. Once Todd has taught him how to back check and stop making lazy line changes, he’ll be ready to join Lizotte and Fiala as the best third line in the league. At least for the first 60 games of the season.

Here's hoping PLD at least outscores Vilardi again next season. I have a feeling he's going to get a lot more offense with more ice time and more growth.

I haven’t been to upset with anything Blake has done to this point minus using Durzi on the left side. But this is just bleh.

PLD is overpaid, he should no way cost more than Fiala, I don’t like trading Vilardi. And now they barely have any cap space to sign a tough LHD or a 4th liner.

Oh and there’s this little aspect that we have no freaking goalie!! Wtf is Rogie coming out at league minimum or something?? What’s the plan here Rob? At this point they might have to ditch Arvidsson to open space for a goalie. Which makes our strength, forward depth, now our weakness.

Who gives a f*** about the 2nd round pick though? Here are our recent 2nd round picks:

Jack Hughes
Francesco Pinelli
Samuel Helenius
Helge Grans (Traded)
Brock Faber (Traded)
Arthur Kaliyev
Samuel Fagemo
Akil Thomas
Jaret Anderson-Dolan

Pinelli might be the only guy here with a future. Kaliyev has more to prove than anyone this year, and I'm not betting on him.
