So in essence it's Vilardi, Iafallo, Durzi and Kupari for PLD.

At $8.5M for 8 years no less. I mean I'd be surprised if it wasn't a NTC/NMC as well.

Chromiak and Laferriere look great too. Turcotte is also still there even if he tops out as a bottom 6 player.

If Dillon was a part of this deal id be happy w it... but that would imply more salary going the other way.. e.g. Trevor Moore which Id be happy with.. then Id say Blake balanced out the d-corps with the forwards leaving only a goalie to deal with.

At the very least PLD will make the 2PP better. Being he will be used as the 2C his PO% should be better also. Still think it was an overpayment, just looking at the positive.

Again with the Lucic trade...the Kings did not trade Barzal or Connor for Lucic. They traded a pick that could have been used for one of them but it wasn't Barzal for Lucic.

With this trade, you know what you are giving up outside of the 2nd round pick. You are also hitching your wagon to PLD for a long time.

Lucic doesn't work and you can't extend him...time to close up shop on the Cup window. If this doesn't work out...all the years of being a complete abomination of a hockey team for the "rebuild" will be for naught.

There is way more risk involved in this move.

Absolute haul for Winnipeg. Laughing to the airport delivering a snivelling crybaby away.

Absolute haul for PLD, who signs a non-discount 8 year contract.

And a big fat fail for Robert Blake. Sending FAR too many assets away to a player who wanted out and wouldn’t sign anything less.

Holy ieeeeeze this looks bad for everything given up.

PLD isn’t worth all this.

I'm with you, and I prefer Vilardi. Kupari likely tops out as a decent third liner. Iafallo is a third liner on a good team as well. No love lost. But man, I can't help but think that Vilardi might end up better than PLD. I can't help but think that he'll be a King killer any time we play the Jets, too.

With that said, here's what we might expect to see next year:

Fiala - PLD - Kempe
Byfield - Kopitar - Kaliyev
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
JAD - Lizotte - Grundstrom

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Clarke
Bjornfot - Roy

Copley
Portillo

This roster -- 12 forwards, 6 defense, 2 goalies, and assuming that JAD and Bjornfot re-sign for $850,000 each -- gets us up to $82,401,667, or $1,098,333 in cap space. There almost has to be another move in the works here unless we plan on only taking one league-minimum guy on our road trips.
Bjornfot can't sign for .850M. That would be below his MQO. He will have to get 1M. Spence will likely be up as the 7th Dman his cap hit is .820M.

Fagemo can't pass through waivers, so he'll likely be up. His cap hit would be .875M.

With Bjornfot as our 3LHD, and Portillo in the AHL (where he will be), we basically have about $150K in cap space with a 21 man roster. (1 goalie, 7 dmen, 12 forwards)

Jets fan here, sorry to intrude

I'm happy with the return here but also would have been equally happy had PLD extended with us on that contract, which makes me think this could be a decent trade for both sides

He's a big, physical C who can put up points. He plays with lots of grit and draws lots of penalties (but also takes a few too many)

There will be times where he will completely take over games on his own (and also stretches where he's invisible for some reason)

I think he'll be better for you than you guys think
Thanks Buffdog. I enjoyed your posts in the main board. Goood job with those Habs fans

Seperately, here are my thoughts on the trade

The trade was essentially PLD for Gabe and a 2nd rounder.
Last week, Iafallo was a cap dump and is way overpaid and we were all ready to watch Kupari get non-tendered.

The reaction from this trade reeks of Fast Times at Ridgemont high when Brad's girlfriend dumped him (using the exact same verbiage he had planned out) before he dumped her and so he sulked the rest of the movie until he threw coffee on the wood be robber and got promoted

They gave away the store for PLD because Luc is best friends with the player agent. 8.5 a year? No problem. For 8 years? Sure!

I wonder if Winnipeg thought about asking for more since Bluc was clearly bent over on the barrel.

I personally think the whole bad attitude thing is overblown. No one wants to be in Winnipeg or Columbus, see Jeff Carter.

I am just mad about losing Vilardi. I really think he was on the verge of exploding. The ONLY player on the Kings beside Fiala who could make any and every situation a legitimate scoring opportunity. Those players are hard to find.

Anyone who thinks the following leadership combination produces a championship for this franchise is a deluded 🤡

Kopitar
Doughty
Robitaille
Blake

If that’s your “core” save your money, unless you’re Pat Brisson of course.

and Vilardi was willing and able to go into the corners and muck it up. PLD better show up and show up big .

Yeah, my problem with the trade is the contract. How the hell is anyone going to build a team with no room? Good player but we have no goalie and need cap. Obviously one of Moore/Arvidsson has to get dumped, but for what

Who gives a f*** about the 2nd round pick though? Here are our recent 2nd round picks:

It's the icing on the cake. Salt in the wound. Kick in the nuts from the front after you got kicked in the nuts from the rear.

Blake gave up 3 assets for a guy who would only sign with 2 teams, and then added a 2nd on top of it. It makes zero sense to include that 2nd.

This trade only makes logical sense if med staff says Vilardi back is a big long term risk (doubtful).. or Kopi is going to retire for sure.. but what I really think is behind this is Luc is trying to create a little enclave for French Canadian players and staff to become a destination for quebecois talent... similar to how RedWings got the Ruski connection going in the 90s.. that is my hypothesis based on Bergovin, Rheume and now PLD
