The purple koolaid must be extra fermented if fans are hallucinating to the point they see parallels with the Richards and Carter moves. Both were locked into long deals and joining an established young core. No one said Richards was the heir apparent at future 1C. But I guess it’s ok to twist yourself into whatever shape that makes the hopium flow strong.

Who comes out of the game six loss to the oilers thinking, yea, what we need to do is trade 3 roster players for an overpaid second line center who is barely better than our current overpaid second line center?

Rob Blake "i wanna stay in LA"

proceeds to bounce to SJ

Rob Blake "we'd prefer to keep everybody"

Proceeds to trade a whole lot lol

Ah just scrolling the capfriendly page and i completely forgot we even retained on Provorov, dude spread Petersen's 1 yr ~ $5m buyout over 2 yrs w/ Provorov (because the rest of Petersen's buyout was completely manageable), and all it cost us for this stupid transaction is Walker, Grans, and 2nd

lol what a disaster

*If* Byfield were to break out this season, Clarke and Spence play to their potential, and we get decent goaltending. This could be an absolute monster season... The team is in a position to do some damage. There are no excuses now. It is pure put up or shut up time. The team has to stay healthy though without added toughness.
Pretty cute you think Clarke and Spence are actually gonna get a chance under Todd.

Send nudes. ;)

You watched that series and thought we were good at center? Lot of short memories here. Our third and fourth line got smoked and it cost us the series. It was nearly untenable to even have them out there. The answer probably wasn’t to trade for an 8.5 million center but this was a problem that needed resolved somehow.

Simmonds, Schenn, and a 2nd. So we traded a fan favorite who was a 30-40 pt guy and our best prospect at the time.

Maybe its because I saw PLD a lot as a Penguins fan, but he's a very good player. Not Mike Richards level, but similar and less likely to break down IMO.
He is a good player - but if you are only going to get to take one swing, he ain’t it.

Why are the Kings taking only one swing?

They gave up none of their big prospects in this deal.

They have 20 mil coming off the books up front next year. Kopitar probably signs the Malkin special 6 mil x 3. Then you have an additional 14 mil to fill in minimal raises.

Looks to me Bluc are content with an entertaining regular season 100+ pt team with a 1st round exit.. this move does not move the needle for the playoffs at all... the forward group was playoff caliber last year in terms of offense. The problem was the 3rd pair and bottom 6.. no size, no grit, soft as baby shit (hey it rhymes)

You realize the type of player Dubois is right?

No, the FIRST line was destroyed by Draisaitl. That's where they lost. The 4th line was brutal as well, but lets not forget that Kopitar was dominated by Draisaitl.

You can buy 2nd liners galore. And don't glorify Dubois and Fiala, they are both 2nd liners even if it cost first line returns to get them. The measure of a team is how its best players play and how well their bottom six over-achieves. 2nd lines are the easiest thing in the league to acquire.

I don't mind it. I think Blake is playing chess here, 2nd year in a row he's signed an elite talent to an 8 year deal around 8mil. The flat cap era is ending and he's now got franchise players on flat cap money. In 3 years teams will look at us and wonder how we have pld, Danault and fiala for years to come on 21mil.

Big cost and Vilardi hurts, but 8 years is the key here through the players prime.

Yes I do. Id like him but not at the expense of 3LD, Goalie and some size on the 4th line (at least). My point is, the roster needs more attention at goal, on the 3rd pair and bottom 6 than its getting. I think there is not enough cap to fix those things after PLD signing.

Walker
Durzi
Iafallo
Kupari
Vilardi
etc

this team, can convert a DALE WEISE into Danault and Romanov... DALE WEISE! for crying out loud
And look what we converted Danault into.

And they added Gavrikov and Korpisalo to fix the defense and goaltending, and it worked (until Korpisalo crapped out in the playoffs).

They clearly don't like rushing prospects to the NHL, especially on the blueline, but now Todd has no option but to utilize Bjornfot and Spence/Clarke in place of the departed defensemen. The GM made room for those players now, so I fail to see how that's a bad thing.

Vilardi is the only prospect the Kings have that’s done a f***ing thing, and he just got traded. Our entire prospect “pool” is now Byfield and Clarke. If you even count Byfield at this point.

That’s it.

Anderson Gravs is one of the better one two punches in terms of LD in the league.

I don't know how this team might match up with someone else in the playoffs since we've exclusively matched up with Edmonton the last two years. That said, we better hope we draw a different team than Edmonton, because I don't think we're getting by them again this year either.
