Alex Galchenyuk Thread 11.0 - Great flashes and growing pains edition

With his combine results and the hockey family that he comes from it was a slam dunk that Timmins would take him. I would have been shocked if it was anyone else although I suspect that he loved Trouba and Reilly as well.

After seeing the WJCs I could've lived with Trouba for sure he was incredible at both ends of the ice. Forsberg also. His speed carrying the puck was pretty awesome.

But as of now Galchenyuk is by far looking like the best player from the draft. We really needed him and him alone.

Why does a 19-year old need to be "sheltered" from the power play?

His impressive 5-on-5 production (especially given the minutes he plays) over the past 10 games warrants increased PP time.

My guess is they haven't had the practice time to consider a new set of lines for the PP. Which is also why they go with their ES lines on the man advantage.

11 points in his last 12 games. Played every game this year without injury despite taking some big hits. Leads the team in +/-. Second on the team only behind Pacioretty with 25 even strength points.

Yakupov has more potential, Skill wise. He looks small in the nhl though.

Galchenyuk has a well rounded mental game paired with a well rounded skill set.
3rd pick gem. All at 19ish.

Galchenyuk is amazing. So is Yakupov. It's really plausible to believe that both will reach their potential and Gally ends up being the better player. Or vice versa. But picks #1 and #3 in a stacked year aren't really projected to be that different in terms of talent. My guess is both are going to be excellent offensive threats in their own ways.

TSN predicted 27 points to Galchenyuk gonna have to tip my hat to them.

That kid will be better than yakupov +14 vs -6 and only 2 points differential with pp time difference.

Yakupov is a one dimensional weapon.....albeit a potentially dangerous one, but Galchenyuk is the type of player that can potentially lead a team in multiple facets of the game.

I suspect Yakupov will be a giant pain in the backside to his coaching staff and upper management in a couple of years when he establishes himself. Galchenyuk will make his linemates better whereas Yakupov plays with some serious tunnel vision and will only be usefull as long as he is scoring.

Yeah, I don't think we could have asked for much more from him. Great first season and I can't wait to see his first playoffs!

I wouldn't be surprised if Galchenyuk comes into camp faster next year. If there's one thing every scouting report about him shared, it's that they all mentioned that he had a ridiculous dedication to improving any and all aspects of his game and isn't afraid to put in ridiculous hours at the gym to get it done.

I've been saying this all year but do you guys remember how Tyler Seguin barely played his rookie season for the Booins and then in the first round of the playoffs he just broke out with a couple huge games and end to end rushes...

This is exactly what Chuckie seems poised to do. He had a better rookie season coming off a knee...started well...had a big down...got hot...and now it's playoff time and players like him thrive in these situations. Look for him and Gally to score some big goals!!!

It's just part of the ebbs and flows of the game. Look at Ovechkin's career...starts crazy good...big slump for a few years...and now is a better player than he has ever been, developing real leadership and all around contribution to his team. Point of that comparison is I think that the more talented the player the more drastic the ups and downs are and big playoff runs are the perfect opportunity to breakout.

Considering the minimal ice time he's getting, couldn't ask for more. I'm more than happy with what he has shown so far. And as for the explosion your refering to in these play-offs, I'm not worried at all about the kids.

Chuckie-Eller-Gally are the key line.

DD and Plek's line are the backbone of offense, obviously. Or at least, they are meant to. The tipping point one way or the other will be scoring depth on our 3rd

Actually, 12 in the last 13. Went from 15 points in 35 games to 27 points in 48 games.

I get what you're trying to say, but I think that is a pretty bad example... Ovy had probably the worst 1st half of a season anyone could have expected, and finished on the hottest streak in the league. He's not less streaky than he was... and his leadership is/was contested by many people a few weeks ago.
