he is better than Tavares , more complete , better wheels but not the goal scorer

the overall package is better , Tavares doesnt play D at all , Galchy looks like a more skilled Ron Francis

both are studs , take you pick , I take AG27

Galchenyuk is a stud and will be a really good player.

IMO, you might haven't watch Tavares enough. He is ELITE, I'm convinced he is a top 5 forward in the league... the comparison between Galchenyuk to Tavares is a bit of a stretch.

Top 5 forward in the NHL? I wouldn't go that far.
Crosby and Malkin are indisputable top 2 in the NHL. Really, there is no better than those two guys.
Then you can talk about Toews and Stamkos, Marty St-Louis, Datsyuk, Giroux, Pat Kane, Hossa...
Tavares is great don't get me wrong, but he wouldn't make my top 5, not yet at least.

People have to stop with the comparisons though. Galchenyuk is and will be Alex Galchenyuk.
Where he goes is entirely up to him, the ceiling is really high for the kid.

I think the chances are very good that Galchenyuk will surpass Tavares in terms of pts production.

Tavares is currently on par with Toews, Stamkos, Giroux etc. That definitely puts him in the conversation as a top 5 forward. He has made Matt Moulson look good and has even revived Brad Boyes' career. Give him some legitimate 1st line wingers and look out.

This.

I think Kopitar is a good example for him.

His past 5 seasons:

82 games
77 points

82 games
66 points

82 games
81 points

75 games
73 points

82 games
76 points

I see on average, just under a point per game player. Which would be top 15 in points every year. With solid defensive play and a leader.

There is nothing wrong with that. Obviously he can put up 80+, maybe 1 or 2 90+ seasons in his his prime or carreer years.

I think Galchenyuk can certainly be a 90pts scorer in 2-3 years, he is much more skilled than Kopitar and the character of a champion. He's just so good at passing it's insane.

In 2-3 years? So by that admission he can be a 100 pt player in his prime, no?.. (and so can Kopitar btw, maybe, same as Galchenyuk)

Damphousse did that in some very high scoring times. In today's NHL he would be lucky to break 70 points.

I think it's a pretty good assesment.

Take all the old stats from the 80's and 90's and just substract 20 to 30 points, and that would give the value of these past players compared to today's players.

You're no longer talking about a top 5 however.

No it's not. You can't compare eras.
If Damphousse was playing today in his prime, then his development would have been completely different as well. The rules and the game are very different, heck even the equipment is completely different.

You can speculate, but that's all it is.

What does Stamkos have to do to be considered with Malkin, Crosby & Ovechkin?

Your math needs some work here......

I said that Tavares is as good as any forward not named Malkin or Crosby......that certainly puts him in the conversation for top 5 and possibly top 3.

He has become a good defensive player due to the dramatic improvement in his skating over the last few years and is absolutely dynamite in the offensive zone.

Tavares is easily top 5 imo. Some people might want to tune into a game outside Montreal now and then. Sounds like it doesn't happen much.

As far as Malkin being the undisputed number 2 in the league at the current moment, no way. That title belong to Stamkos.

Crosby
Stamkos
Ovy
Malkin
Tavares. It could be argued that Tavares is currently ahead of malkin, although his overall body of work isn't. The separation between 5-10 is almost non existent. John Tavarez is definitely in the mix by any metric.

Tavares is one of the best players I've seen this year who's playede against us. Always dangerous.

Galchenyuk has all the tools to be just as good. There's no guarantee that he will be but it's not a stretch to think he can.

His hands are bananas. Passing and vision are as good as anyone's. A wrist shot that's downright scary. His defensive game already seems very solid. His frame is big and he could end up being huge. Plus he's a huge gym rat.

There's nothing in him that's lacking. People think they're being 'realistic' by thinking he can top out as a poor man's Kopitar or whatever are seriously low-balling him not being realistic at all.

Slightly better Kopitar. Kopitar is just under a ppg player. Galchenyuk will be a ppg player IMO. Thats not undervalueing you are overvalueing.

Galchenyuk will be Galchenyuk. He won't play the stay style as anyone else in the league. It's kind of like saying Stamkos is not Ovechkin and Kopitar is not E. Stall. Pts per game also don't matter, he can be a pt per game player, slightly lower or slightly higher, it will all depend on who his linemates will be.

I think how Galchenyuk will really be evaluated later in his career, in the Montreal hockey market, is his consistency, and his ability to turn it up when it counts. We can't afford to have a #1 C be a streaky player and fans/media will **it on him if that is what he becomes. Personally, I think Galchenyuk will have no issues with consistency but it will really depend on his linemates. He has also shown time and time again in the O that he can win hockey games by himself. This factor alone is what makes his ceiling very high! It's hard not to get too overexcited for what is to come.

Tim Bozon had a great game tonight as Kamloops beat Portland. He had 2 goals and 2 assists I was very impressed. He's missed most of the playoff games due to a hand injury. The two teams play Wednesday in Kamloops should be a good game.Portland has a 2 game to 1 lead.

If that was an 82 games season, I think he might have won the Calder.

And the other rookie is tied for 1st in goals with 14.;)

This I think Galchenyuk would start to pull away in a longer season as he's been starting to come into his own this past month or so.

The only reason why it would be harder to reach those levels on a contender is because of ice time. Your linemates would either be the same, or even better (seeing how you're on a better team). So it all comes down to ice time.
However, if the player is capable of putting up 90pts in a non-contender, then why would anybody give him less ice time?
I mean, are you saying Crosby would have more points if he played in Carolina this year?

It really doesn't make any sense. Playing on a better team won't hinder production of top level talent.

Throw Semin and Skinner on his wings and quite possibly. :P
