Could easily turn out to be the top player of his draft. Has all the tools: Skating Ability, Good Shot, Excellent Passing, Great Hands and Vision.

Is already a force at limited ES and will no doubt excel on the PP when given the chance.

Hard to imagine him at less than a PPG player. Wouldn't think that a projection of him as a perennial top 15 scorer would be overly optimistic.

I wanted us to draft him, my second and third choices were Forsberg and Teravainen.

For me it was Galchenyuk and Galchenyuk alone once we were on the clock...but I wouldn't have been breaking things if we had picked Forsberg. Anyone else would have made me beyond pissed.

I was hoping we'd be in a position to draft Galchenyuk a whole year before the draft. I juggled with the idea of Grigo at first but Galchenyuk was always my guy. I'm happy to see him produce so early in his career.

Still don't get your love for Dumba, is it because you thought he would be an other PK like everyone alluded to?

As for me I was on the Grigo train, then Grigo/Gally, and about a couple of weeks before the draft I was pretty convinced I wanted Galchenyuk and was really hoping we would draft him. When we did I started screaming and cheering in my apartment like a lunatic lol.

I remember before the start of the season in the draft thread (when it was still really unpopular because it was so far away) there was a poster who was talking to Galchenyuk on twitter, while he was injured, and reported to us saying how cool of a guy he is that he takes time to chat with fans. That was the first I heard about this phenom, who was seemingly unattainable because he could very well go first or second overall and we were projected to be very good that year as a team. Two years later and here we are, he's putting up nearly a .ppg in his last 12 games for us.

He's actually leading all rookies with 25 ES points.

It's funny how Subban's production at ES is used as an argument against him in the Norris thread on the main board. But, for another Habs player (Galchenyuk), the argument cannot go the other way either!

I wanted Galchenyuk, but I thought we would draft Forsberg (which I would have been happy with too).

I don't want to say Galchenyuk and Stamkos will be similarly productive players, but in Stamkos first season he had a PGP of 0.58 and Galchenyuk right now has 0.55. That's pretty amazing for any player coming right out of the juniors and especially more so in Galchenyuk's case since normally players only make the jump after another year in the juniors. Right now he's playing about 15 mins per game. I hope everyoneis convinced by now that we now have in our hands the key piece this team needed: a top 10 overall forward.

Chucky obviously great (huge understatement). Just prefacing this post with a "I <3 Chucky as much as everyone else!"

What I still find a little confusing/sliggghtly disappointing (but not really) is that he seems not to use his skills as much as he could. Part of it is obviously confidence and a workmanlike attitude. PK started hot dogging early cuz that's just him. But on plays where he could spread the D with his long reach and ability to dangle, I don't see him doing it. Last night tried a toe drag, but it was actually the wrong play to make. Last night wasn't his best IMO though, even though he managed to set up the first goal (that's how good he is).

He seems to be looking down a lot and for someone with his skill set, I would imagine that he would be able to cut through players like swiss cheese by looking up with the puck on his stick. Him and Eller have so much chemistry that if they just pull one or two moves after entering the zone, they could make the other team look silly. Not saying they should be going for that all the time, just seen a bunch of opportunities where I expect it to happen and it doesn't. I'm sure even by next year it'll be different. For now he's playing it simple and still using his skill to work the puck to open guys and battle hard in front of the net. The goal against Pitt was an example of pure skillllz

I cannot wait for his wrister to start being as accurate as it was in junior. It's wicked.

He has the ability to fend of defenders with taking a wide stance and then cutting back against the gain and then, you know, causing all kinds of havoc with Eller, but I guess it's not the time to risk it. Just saying, I think he's already capable of all this and wouldn't mind him actually trying it out more. Playoffs are here, so now I expect just more of the same which is absolutely fine. Just been awhile since we've seen some pure filth from one of our forwards. Him and Eller fit the bill.

I was 100% confident that Timmins would take him if he was there as it really was a no brainer when you look at the type of players that he likes. If Galchenyuk went in the top two I would have settled for any one of Murray, Reilly, or Forsberg as our selection.

I believe that Galchenyuk would be the #1 pick if that draft was done again today as he is a much more complete palyer than Yakupov with a much better attitude.

For me, it was Grigorenko most of the year. Probably around March or April I moved towards Galchenyuk as my favourite prospect and haven't looked back. Unbelievably stoked on having Gally!

Columbus: Galchenyuk had just missed a year, whereas Murray was the consensus #2. Moreover, Murray was considered NHL ready and Columbus (at the time) could have used any NHL ready prospects they could.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say it would have been stupid for either of those teams to pick Galchenyuk. That being said, hindsight is 20/20 and Galchenyuk hasn't missed a beat from his missed year. I'm really glad he fell to us, but realistically, it was very likely he'd fall to us at #3.

I absolutely believe Timmins would have picked a d-man if he felt he was the BPA. I think it would have been between Murray, Reilly and Trouba. Murray being the most likely pick but not a slam dunk as Reilly was kind of the d-man version of Galchenyuk.

What is stupid is the thought process that is being used here. Howson and Tambellini are(were) horrendous GM's who may very well have thought that way.

A smart GM who liked Galchenyuk the most would trade down two spots and draft him or simply draft him outright. Successful people take risks....losers play safe.

I didn't see it the first few times I saw Grigorenko. When I saw him in Halifax during the play-offs.. I knew exactly what you had been saying. However, before that I had switched to Galchenyuk as well. Drunken celebrations all around in the WTK household when Gally was picked.

With his combine results and the hockey family that he comes from it was a slam dunk that Timmins would take him. I would have been shocked if it was anyone else although I suspect that he loved Trouba and Reilly as well.
