Player Discussion Alex DeBrincat

I don't blame Cat for 'wanting out'. He was acquired without much choice in the matter and has a young family.

Having said that, the team played him like crazy on the PP, even if they didn't play him with Stu. He had ample opportunity to score and to show that he's a line driver deserving of $8+ million. All he did was show that Kane is the reason he scored 40g.

He simply doesn't have a role on this team that is worth $8 million or whatever he'd want. Its just a crappy situation brought about by a GM that has poor vision. Just hope we can recoup a good package for him and if he extends, its not past $8 million aav

Detroits situation changed over the course of last season, and both the coach and Yzerman publicly stated that the team lacks goal scorers at the end of the season. They also lost Bertuzzi, fwiw.

Not saying it's Kasper that comes back, but Detriot is clearly lacking the firepower needed to compete with the other teams in this division. And Debrincat probably changes that outlook a lot more than Kasper does, imo.
 
Even if he wanted to sign at this point, I don't think it's worth paying your 2nd line LW 8+ mil a year, which is probably what it would take for him to stay, since he doesn't appear too warm on the idea in the first place. Can't be too top heavy in the NHL, need to spread the talent around your roster, and I don't think DeBrincat brings enough to the table at 5v5 to justify that kind of price tag.

Hopefully Dorion will get a player back who can play up in the top 6.

Goalies are voodoo. Not to mention, goalies will always look a lot better in Nashville than in Ottawa. We should've learnt that hard lesson by now. Systems are crucial for goalies these days.

Lol that's fair. Its steep. The 3 dmen optioned are whatever, but the rest stings. I was just trying to move the convo off Sanderson who is a non starter.

I do think there's still room for a goaltender to be above their peers though and that looks like Saros. He's a fresh 28, so decent age for mileage and potentially helping to take the team to the next step.

I don't see Forsberg as much more than a stopgap bridge to the young guys who didn't appear ready yet, so I hope they do something in net.

Maybe. I doubt you want to keep him around the group we have which appears to be pretty tight, but who knows.

Well we have Tkachuk, Norris, Stützle, Giroux, and Batherson who are all legitimate top 6 players. Then I think Pinto and Grieg are young and have the potential to be really solid middle 6 players. I think acquiring 2 this offseason would be ideal, but 1 is an absolute minimum.

Definitely. Just think it's better to let greig cook a bit in the ahl and bring in a replacement for dbc and 2 legitimately solid 3rd liners - who can move up if there are injuries.

I'd like to have a third line that we can move up the lineup and not have them be a black hole offensively.

Because Chicago did not grant permission for other GMs to contact the player or his agent….. if they had, it would have violated the leagues tampering rules in regards to players under contract to another team.

The more I heard about this story the more I want him gone.
He wants to leave bc he isnt the first line LW.. stop being a princess and be a hockey player. If you played better they would put you first line. Awful attitude to have. Dorion make a hockey trade and get us a quality player that wants to be here
 
I seem to have missed where DeBrincat commented on his utilization as a reason for not wanting to stay

Does anyone have a link to that? Or a tweet?

I hear you. It may be wishful thinking on my part, but I don't know. I agree Kasper likely has more value than Debrincat, but provided debrincat agrees to resign the value is actually not all that far off. Debrincat comes with certainty and he is also pretty young. Marco Kasper is younger, and while he looks good he is still unproven in the NHL, so he carries a lot less certainty(or a lot more risk) than a proven top 6 NHL FW. The sens might have to add a little more, but I am not sure it would be that much.

All in all Kasper for Debrincat seems like a win win for all involved except Detroit's cap space. Cat would undoubtedly improve their roster. Cat, Raymond, Larkin, Edvinsson, and Seider is a solid core for the Wings. They would for sure be better than last year. The sens might be slightly worse next season than they were this season after this trade, but long term the trade probably has huge positive impact on the sens as a team

Side note though, I also think that the sens could use a true numero uno Tendy. If DBC is out either Marco Kasper or a number 1 goalie is what I would prefer
 
Someone emailed 1200 this morning.
I’d take boeser as a debrincat replacement. Wanted boeser since we took white instead.
He’s still got it to fill the role.

I’ve asked for the proof/link from the poster I was discussing this issue with, who claimed permission was granted…. They could not give me any, and I could not find any myself.

It would be kinda hard to provide you proof of something that did not happen…..
