I've been watching this kid closely for couple years now 'couse he'd played for my fav team. And unfortunately have to say that this conversation about this kid have had a little over hyped features. Yeah, he's been incredibly ready for his age and has been dominating in FEL, BUT... Is Filppula the latest player from FEL who has proved that FEL produces good NHL players? There is Korpikoski and some goaltenders but there's 11 birth year hole between Filppula and Barkov. 12 year if compared to M.Koivu. My point is that FEL is faraway from state it had in 00-decade competition to other leagues in the world. KHL has born between these years and has sucked up couple levels from FEL's competitivity for comparing other leagues here in Europe.

All I'm saying is that this kid has pretty much proving that FEL still produces good hockey players for NHL level. Barkov is obviously the biggest talent from Finland since over ten years. I hope he surprises everyone there as he had done here in Finland and proves these speculations wrong. My quess is still that he's not ready yet for NHL. Even if never hurting he's shoulder. I hope he'll play for Tappara next season. I'll bet that Panthers has more use for this kid in age 21 than now (Save one year of entry-level deal to the future).

If he feels he is ready and Tallon feels to same way let him try. He has played 2 years against men with success. He is most complete 17 year old i've ever seen in FEL and he destroyed offensive records in a lockout year. He had his best stretch of the season against lockout players such as Mikko Koivu, Derek Stepan, Jussi Jokinen and many more... FEL haven't been stronger than this year for many years...

If he would stay in FEL i would fear that his developement would slow down or even stop because the competition isn't good enough for him. Barkov played FEL as 16 year old despite he didn't dominate ASM U20 junior league in finland. He had 0.5PPG and after 1 year of developement in tough league his production doubled and his overall game took a significant jump. His track record is that Barkov developes better in a tougher league.

To me he should try if it doesen't work he should play AHL instead except i doubt that he will play there instead of FEL. I feel that he is definetly NHL readyand there is not any reason to bolt back into FEL. I think you want him back just to have star C for your fav FEL team and solving some C problems. Every guy except for some Tappara fans feel that he should be NHL ready. You guys are too selfish to upgrade your team instead of being proud that crown jewel of you're team developement system is going to try to be impact player as 18 year old in the NHL and to me when the player has special combination of physical and mental maturity as 17 year old with elite two-way skills and offensive ability i have no doubt that he starts his season with panthers. I'm not saying that Barkov will have big offensive impact in his first season but solid with slight shot at being 50-60 point scorer but i believe that it is more about 35-50.

I don't know if anyone have done it yet, but here's a list of some deadlines to records Barkov has a chance to achieve:

(Disclaimer: all the modern league records are since 1987 that Hockey-reference covers.)

2013-10-03 Youngest goal scorer in the modern league history
2013-10-12 Youngest player in the modern league history two score two points in a game
2013-10-27 Youngest player in the modern league history two score three points in a game
2014-01-12 Youngest player to play a game for the Panthers
2014-01-27 Youngest player to score a point for the Panthers
2014-02-01 Youngest player in the league to score a hat trick
2014-02-04 Youngest player to score a goal for the Panthers
2014-02-19 Youngest player in the modern league to score four points in a game
2014-04-12 Youngest player to score two or three points in a game for Florida
2016-03-17 Youngest player to score a hat trick for Florida

Well he seems to be a lock (barring disastrous training camp & games) for at least

2014-01-12 Youngest player to play a game for the Panthers
2014-01-27 Youngest player to score a point for the Panthers

So Barkov has to score a goal in his first NHL game to be youngest player to score a goal (at least since 87)

He has 5 games to be the youngest to score two points

He has 12 games to be the youngest to score three points

I think of the mentioned records most propable are all of the Panther records. Of the league records, I'd say the most probable one would be the two point game. He won't have that much multi point games, mostly he is just very consistent point producer so I think that those three point, four point and hat-trick league records are safe.

Colorado plays their first game Oct 2 and Florida plays Oct 3. If both Barkov and McKinnon scores a goal in their first game they share the record for Youngest goal scorer in the modern league history.

im pretty sure barkov will win it by time zone advantage (7-8-9 hours before, so he'd probably be a 2nd october by canadian time

So AHL is not option for Barkov? (Unfortunately this in finnish)

"Jos Barkov ei vielä mahdu NHL-joukkueseen, hän palaa SM-liigaan ja Tapparaan.

- Kun on sopimus olemassa Tapparaan, niin en saa pelata AHL:ssä. Jos en NHL:ään pääsee, niin sitten tulen Suomeeen pelaamaan."

He's saying, because he has contract with Tappara, he's not allowed to play in AHL. Only options are Panthers or Tappara?

Contract aside, I don't think anyone felt he was going to AHL anyways. Barkov says he wants to play in the NHL. Tallon is giddy about Barkov being in NHL. He has the ability. All signs are pointing towards him being in the NHL.

If the FEL is as tough as I've heard, then it's probably not too far away from the AHL in terms of pace, talent level and physicality. The AHL is perfect for NCAA and CHL prospect who need to learn the professional hockey lifestyle and get acclimated with the physicality of pro hockey. FEL is pro hockey. So, maybe the NHL is the only option for Barkov if he wants to take his game to a higher level.

Who's this guy on the new NHL 14 game cover? All the 14 FEL teams have a similar cover as can be found here: http://imgur.com/a/5opNF#f6Dakzz

Niemenen REALLY wants that EA Sports logo. Like, really badly...

Need some people with photoshop skills to take a run at this.

yes, but AHL got the small rink

AHL is a bit better than FEL but it's not THAT big of a difference. the pros of playing in FEL is that he plays with nieminen who's a NHL vet that can teach him stuff instead of career AHL:ers and kids that haven't made it yet

i'd rather see him in the AHL than in FEL next year, i think it would be good for his english (which is good, but he'll get forced to use it daily and maybe become less shy of using it) and adapting to the smaller ice, but he's damn ready for the NHL already so it would be a waste

Mikael Granlund (another FEL player) said that main problem for him at both NHL and AHL level was strength. In board game and puck battles. Said that the smaller rink made the game much more demanding physically and there was no feel of free ice.

They couldn't find a better picture of Niemenen?

Jesus ,that's creepy.

He has just one game to become the youngest goal scorer since the Original 6 came around?

Really excited to see Barkov next year in Florida, definately have to jump on the bandwagon again. First time since the days of Vanbiesbrouck lol.

If Barkov is able to take another step this year like he has done in the past you are going to have a lot of fun with this guy. Hopefully he won´t be forced into a 1C role too soon though, although I don´t really see any better options available.
