He needs to find a new partner then. This team can't go back to the Cohen days. They already lost most of their casual fan base and are down to hardcore fans and snowbird fans of visiting teams as it is. They won back some with a playoff run a season ago, but it won't take much to lose that again.

You mean when the team spent to the cap? The problem with Cohen's era was Keenan/Dudley. If we had Tallon back then, things might have been alright.

If Drouin becomes the next Kane. I'm gonna ****. Hope Barky is nothing like Olli and surpasses expectations.

No, Cohen was far and away the problem. We didn't spend to the cap till it was too late and he imposed an internal cap when team was having success, he got in the way of player trades handcuffing the GMs, was terribly impatient, charges players for game worn jersys, and that's just a few things. Guy couldn't get out of his own way, talk to a Panther from his days, they'll tell ya how crappy he was. Bout killed this team. And he's still around as a 'minority owner,' some speculate he still runs quite a bit.

Number 2 overall pick Aleksander Barkov to sign entry level deal this a.m. in Florida. Congrats Sasha!

Drouin looks unbelievable in the limited highlights for the bolts development camp. Obviously Barkov didn't have an opportunity to go ahead and lace them up, but I'm really hoping he ends up being the better NHL player, especially given that Drouin went right behind him.

He's getting ridiculously overhyped. Yeah, Drouin has magnificent hands. Probably you can say already that they are some of the best hands ever. Everyone should have already known he had sick hands, that's what he was known for going into the draft. But there's a lot more to hockey than just hands. Barkov is better at virtually every other aspect of the game. I'll take Barkov anyday and everyday over Drouin. It'll be interesting to compare them in 5 years.

This is practice we're talking about here, against guys that most won't ever see an NHL game.

When he does that in actual NHL games on a consistent pace, then I'll admit that I'm impressed. Practice means nothing if you don't bring that same effort in the game, just ask Kovalev.

Drouin looks awesome, he's the reason why I was so iffy about all the MacKinnon hype....and vise versa.

I would have been a lot more concerned if Tampa took Seth Jones tho, to eat up a ton of minutes and improve the quality of their D in all situations, but obviously that's not a guarantee. Hubs/Drouin could have been fun to watch, but Barkov looks like the championship center we missed out on when we took Horton over Staal.

Of course Drouin looks great. It's camp - less physical, slower, less intense.

I think he'll be a great player one day, but I think if you dropped him into the middle of an NHL season with his current level of play & development, he would get exposed.

It'll be interesting to see what will happen when the league adjusts to Drouin. I think he will score a lot of points at first though. As far as Barkov goes, as long as he doesn't bust I won't care what Drouin does.

So it's official? Haven't seen anything on it yet.

I haven't read anything that's "official" like from Tallon or anything, I've only read tweets from a few people about it.

Let's just say that this is pretty much his contract, he's basically swapping for Weiss. Then I only see us re-signing Marky and adding a right-winger and that's it. Competition on defense (if Jovo is ready or not) will be Robak, Mottau, and Gilroy. Just doesn't seem we'll add any more than that but who knows.

I think the Panthers might wait and see if the can grab a player like the Islanders did with Grabner.

That's certainly good news. I really can't wait to see how this kid will play in the NHL. I know he's going to be a good player in the long-run but I still have a few uncertainties going into next season that have already been discussed on these boards (the shoulder injury, the transition to smaller ice, etc.) which is going to make Barkov's first season really exciting to see pan out.
