AV is doing great for the personel he has here (especially on the defence). We are not in similar situation to Pittsburgh's last year when Sullivan came in. We don't have 2 superstars at center. Every coach that comes here will have to work with same deficiencies as AV and I am not sure any other coach can make more out of the player squad that is here righ now. We can only rely on our speed and Henrik, which is exactly what AV is doing. We are just not talented enough team (outside of the goalie of course) and even Babcock is not going to win a lot with this defense. Just my $0.05.

I just don't see how anyone can pit it all on the players. These same players were seen as the backbone of our roster before AV arrived, and Staal and Girardi's rapid decline LITERALLY coincided with AV's arrival. AV's system amplifies the things Staal and G have NEVER been good at and takes away the things they always HAVE been good at. It's almost like he wants the team to fail with this stupid system.

When game after game sees the other team's best players getting the puck wide open in the slot, regardless of which defensive pairing we had on the ice, then the problem is the system more than the players.

Get this ****ing toolbag out of here already. His personal agendas are on par, or actually worse, than Torts'.

Better system than Torts, but worse in just about everything else needed to be a credible coach. Should not have any say in personnel changes.

i dont know if its really that much of a better system. the wingers up high for the breakout is certainly better...i dont care for the 6 goalie system, but tbh, man to man defense is so dumb. i guess if you have 6 guys who can skate like EK its a good system, but even then AV wouldnt play them all and instead opt for Girardi.

sigh.

In every AV thread until he's fired or proves he actually knows how to coach

Yep.

I'd say more stubborn than stupid.
I would agree. He simply refuses to believe that his system will not beat out all. No adjustments no in game tactic changes. The clinging to vets is also alarming.

But then again, this is how his Vancouver team disintegrated as well. History has a way of repeating itself.

and see, its not like he actually does all of this... its important to note that right now he has a rookie on his first line... Kreider - Zib - Buchnevich is in all likelyhood a first line. hes got another rookie on the 2nd line with Zucc and Stepan in Vesey (As of today anyway)

and he had a rookie on the blueline in a playoff game as like his 7th game ever in Skjei last year.

I think the notion that he doesnt trust kids is false. i think that he just is not able to judge a players ability whatsoever....i seriously question his hockey iq as a coach. i say this in all sincerity. his system doesnt match the players. even when he has the players he plays them out of position (boyle on LD?) or he plays them fewer mins than they deserve (Yandle) or he breaks up a borderline top line (Staal Stalberg lindberg) from the pieces of 3rd liners that just happens to click...

its like...he doesnt get the most basic aspects of what you want in a team.

the holy grail is finding 3rd line pieces that play like a top line. the effing Penguins won a stanley cup realizing this.

he breaks it up right away.

youve got a defenseman thats injured...doesnt fit your playing style whatsoever, and is rapidly deteriorating...and he plays over a kid who was playing like a first pairing defenseman when paired with Yandle last season....

i hate our coach...but i do disagree with this notion that he prefers vets over rookies...i think he just prefers who he prefers, and theres usually no rhyme or reason to it.

Bring in Messier (slight sarcasm, thoughkind of interestedin how he'd do)

YUCK...no thanks.

im not sure there is a coach who could turn this around...i say that because of our problems on defense...its 100% a roster situation first, and a coaching situation second...but when both are bad, its exacerbated. i'll take a crappy defense with a good coach over a crappy defense with a bad coach.

The defense is lacking personnel-wise. But, somehow this coach has found a way to come up with the worst possible combinations.

Who's to say he's a bad coach though? Just saying

There are so many dynamics that we as fans do not know about behind the scenes that I try to give AV the benefit of the doubt BUT some of his decisions really bother me as a fan.

AV is sad u know - Glass down to the pack of wolves.. And AV miss his friend, but we all know he will probably be fast recalled if we are going on a losing streak.

I, for one, want to see how AV does with a team that actually possesses a bit of depth before calling for his head.

this team has depth now ?

At forward? Yes. Undeniable.

Defense? More NHL capable bodies but still a very untenable position.

Fact is the season hasn't even started and people are calling for the coach's head. I'd like to see how the team performs for a month before jumping the gun.
