The turnover was whatever, I'll always trust him with the puck on his stick. I've said it before but if there's a flaw in his game it's his awareness and compete around the net boxing out and tying up. That's the only pattern you point to where he can get exposed. He never gets beat off the rush or off the cycle by a puck carrier.

Happened on the Palmeri goal at the Garden and then on the Mercer goal tonight, watch him on the replay he just stands in the high slot not defending anything.
Wait I was told the Mercer goal was lafs fault

They really need Fox and Panarin to simplify their games. Just make the simple pass. He held onto the puck too long on that TO when somebody was open in the middle of the ice.

I'm just surprised that there's no middle of the ice pass option for a quick one timer instead of dragging it all the way around the O-zone. When he went around the net and started to come back up, it seemed to confuse the shit out of everyone. There's no reason for him to make a blind pass and/or cough the puck up where he did. If anything, just backhand it back deep.

Fox and Panarin think they are McDavid and are going to dangle the puck through 4 guys on every shift.

100%

He is trying to pad his stats rather than... you know... win games. That's the only way to explain that type of pass in that situation.

Fox is such a cerebral player, and so deliberate in his play selection, that I can't attribute this to a "bad read," particularly when you consider the score of the game at the time.

If he makes that horrible pass when they're down a goal and trying to generate offense, it sucks, but I can accept what he's going for. But when you're up 2 goals against a team that has nothing to play for? Shame on you, Fox.

I feel like he's pressing a bit. What made him so good last year was his ability to read and react to plays as they happened rather than forcing the issue. This feels like a natural thing when you have so much hype and expectation going into a season you start trying to do too much and stop playing your game. I think he'll work through it

Dude is a star, no doubt.

Right now he's trying to do way too much. He also sometimes seems to forget he is a defenseman, first and foremost. I know that's the case with a lot of elite OFD, but still. We need the defensive help as much as we need his offensive output.

There's a major issue or disconnect.

Fox and Panarin both deterioted at even strength. Both are playing a sloppy, mistake riddled and 'forced' game. If it was one of them, I'd call it a slump. The fact that both of them are dealing with similar issues, there's something fundamentally wrong.

It is possible both are in a slump and forcing things

it is also possible I win the powerball... albeit unlikely. Obviously the odds aren't that skewed but there's something fundamentally wrong with the team at even strength. How did we get worse than David Quinns 5v5?

We're bottom5 xG%. It's crazy to be where we are and goes to show how good our Special Teams and Igor have been.

Just looking at the numbers today, something that's noticeably different from his rookie season is his shot rate is down about 25% which is surprising. Even last year it was down and the guy won the norris but it might be interesting to explore why there's such a difference. Other than that it's hard to pick apart his game even if he's not playing as well as we expect him to.

Someone said it earlier, but the team was smelling their own farts at that point. They had a great first period and could have scored even more, and they were high on that success swingin it around even though NJ tightened things up at their blue line, and it burned them badly.

Yep - I saw a team that got cute with the puck and didnt get deep enough, drive to the corners and behind their D, make the smart play, continue to play the body, pay attention to detail, etc. They just lost their game and then couldnt recover. Credit the Devils for jumping on them.

Move on. Either this will be a bad experience with the new roster that screws with their heads or a learning lesson they can benefit from. I liked Gallants postgame reaction. Keep it even. Theyll be games like this, just cant have many of them and in bunches.

Don't want to steer this too much in Panarin's direction since this is a Fox thread, but I blame Panarin. Whatever term you want to use to describe his current play style, it exasperates me. Vatrano hasn't done a whole lot in four games on his flank, while everybody thought Hunt was the problem. That's because no one other than Strome is used to playing that way. Vatrano must be thinking what the f*** style of hockey is this? Put Copp there, and I think he would have similar issues.

This is exactly what I saw. An overconfident team, and an overconfident player, getting burned after trying to showboat a bit.

Lesson learned. Hopefully.

I’m glad it happened quickly because honestly, I don’t want this clubhouse to turn into a frat house and it looked to maybe be on that path.

I don't think it's that nefarious. The Rangers just beat two of the best teams in the league, had a good deadline and were dominating a team far below them in the standings that for a while allowed them to do whatever they wanted in the offensive zone. He got arrogant.

I've been saying it. It's been a common theme for this team. Lack of vocal leadership exacerbates it.

I rather be down by 1 than up by 2. This team goes into 'power saving mode' when they have a dominate period.

It was so obvious. They were playing meat and potatoes, physical, forechecking. After 2-0 they thought it was going to be a. Easy game and they started farting around and got burned hard. NJ is good at one thing, and that’s transition offense , and they played right into their hands. Hopefully this was a huge wake up call.

Well ideally he recognized that he should not be taking shots when he can pass to Panarin or Zibanejad or someone else considering he was shooting 5% at 5v5 which isn't atypical for a defeneman.

Yeah maybe, although it hasn't really translated into more offense overall when he is on the ice. Perhaps that is because he is playing tougher minutes now.

2 points in the last 6. Now under a point-per-game. Looked real good against the Isles in the first period. Lots of people screaming about rest. We pumped his tires for a year that he was the best d in the game, yet I am watching Toews and Makar play 27-28 mins a night. Why does Fox need a rest? They are managing his minutes. This team needs to win games.
