It’s dependent on a lot of factors. He is basically a rental, one year left. We dealt both McD and Miller with more term left.

Whoever gets him will want to get an extension in place. Trouba has waited a long time to get to choice where to play the second half of his career. How many teams are he interested to sign with? 15? 5? 1-2?

I would bet good money on Karlsson resigning with SJ. Is Pieterangelo getting to July 1st next summer? Odds are that there will be a hole lot of nothing available. Trouba is just entering his prime. If he has good numbers next season — many players have really good contract seasons — what can he get? If he has the same type of contract year as Evander Kane or Matt Duchene and many like that have had, it’s not 7m per but probably closer to 9.5m per if I know NHL GMs right...

So like sure, if he is willing to resign at 7x7 with 25 different NHL teams, he would bring a really good return. But if it’s with 1-2 teams and/or only at 9-10m per it’s going to be less. And lately I think we have seen more and more players be pretty picky on whom to sign with. But we just don’t know all relevant factors to determine his value.

I think the reason many of you are okay with a Trouba trade is because you are vastly undervaluing what he would cost in a trade. Andersson doesn't get you Trouba, let alone adding a 2nd.

The ask from Winnipeg starts with Miller, Lundkvist or Kravtsov and that isn't unreasonable either, he is a legitimate top pairing defenseman. They also probably want their 1st back or our 1st next year. Again, not completely unreasonable asks.

If we make a trade with Winnipeg, you are looking at a range of Winnipeg 1st + Lundkvist + Andersson to NYR 2020 1st + Kravtsov/Miller + Pionk. Again, you all have said it, he is a legitimate top pairing guy. They aren't cheap.

Which is why I said WPG is going to price themselves out of the market so that they can suck that 1 last year of cost controlled play out of him. It makes no sense on their end to trade him. Use the Karlsson comparison, that's exactly what 1 year of trouba is worth, the only difference is the state of the teams... . WPG is in a position to afford him as a self rental, whereas Ottawa is in the middle of a suckfest and needed every asset possible for karlsson, thus the artificial inflation of the price of trading for Trouba. If WPG is out of the playoffs for whatever reason next year, Trouba can be dealt for a shitload of assets--even more reason for WPG not to trade him.

Use this year to see what ADA is in a newly upgraded role, what Pionk is in a downgraded role, what Fox is on this team, where Skjei goes after his abysmal year last year, and where Hajek ends up on the LD depth chat.

It's actually a win win for the rangers. The forwards get a year to mature, the defense gets an extra year to be worked on/developed, and Trouba hits UFA and he's acquirable for just $... Not that it's a guarantee, but its something. If he really does want to come here then maybe the Rangers trade for his rights after next season before he hits UFA

I think his absolute ceiling is a Top pairing, #2 defenseman. The offense will be there but the question is if he can play well enough defensively to be considered a top pair dman.

2-3 years I see him hitting his prime (closer to 3)..whatever that will be.

shatty I think has more value around the league than people realize. righty dman only 2 years left on contract. runs a pp. that's attractive to teams. we may not get much but I think there's value there.

Smith while overpaid can be your 12th forward AND your 7th dman. he's fine too.

no one picks the panthers over the Rangers if both teams want a guy. No one. guys don't want to play in empty buildings. I know some think its a myth but original 6 playing for a world class organization that treats their players like royalty every one wants to play for the Rangers. very few don't. I'd be shocked if he picked the panthers over the rangers unless the difference in money is stupid. not just the same I mean stupid.

Don’t think anyone is doing us a favor with Shatty. Brooks reported that we couldn’t find a take at 50% retained unless we ourselves took a bad contract back. Watch Gorton buy-him out because we can’t deal him at 50% only to have someone sign him for 4m per the next day...

Also, I am not sure how feasible it is to have Smith as a forward. Was it a short term agreement last season? If he don’t want to play there, you can’t make him.

If he's willing to forgo $4.5 million, he doesn't have to play forward. I'm betting he'll play forward.

RH offensive D who grew up rooting for the Rangers.

I can't think of an instance of that ever going wrong.

He's good, but I always thought he was overrated. I think he gets higher opinions based on potential, but not sure that he will reach it.
