The most impressive thing about this goal was a guy in a CBJ uniform successfully entered the offensive zone on a power play. You don’t see that every day.

Who is the guy with the squeaky voice doing the play by play?

I hope he's the good kind of leader and not the toxic kind who acts like a leader just get the C on his chest, maximize his position in the, maximize his salary and then bail the team once he hits the UFA age (or request a trade or something). I think Jack Eichel assumed a leader role quite quickly in Buffalo as well.

I also hope if there's some sort of rift between Fantilli and the veterans (case Babcock) that it will get resolved.

Have you followed him even one second?

It would be pretty catastrophic if the substance of the rift was young players wanting it easy and veterans wanting to win more, but I'm confident that is not the case. The players were treated differently by Babs, and they were just speaking to their experience. I think all of these guys are committed hard to winning. We've got a really committed group of young guys. I worry less about them than some of the vets.

Yes. From the beginning.

But you never know. Mark Scheifele was touted as a great team player and a leader as well.

Going to church on sundays and saying all the right things in front of the media don't make you a great leader yet. It's usually when things are not going well when the great leaders rise.

And like I said: two different things are being a good team leader and being the superstar who wants the C on his chest as soon as possible.

I'm excited about Fantilli. And this doesn't make me any less excited. But I have my reservations.

For our sakes - I hope you are right.

It just sounds like you’re not basing it on reality at all, just for the fantasy world’s what if the world burns style thinking.

You can’t find a single negative article on Fantillis character, not a single one.

Okay buddy.

Well show some articles that raises some of your concerns?
Wtf? I said I HOPE he doesn’t turn out certain ways.

I mentioned Scheifele and Eichel as examples.

I don’t need to have any articles to show.

And if you go by just articles then you’d think Laine is one of the worst human beings in the league. Articles rarely ever tell us the whole picture when it’s about something happening behind closed doors. This coming from someone who works in the industry.

Again, I said I ’hope’ he is/will be the kind of leader who sticks with the team and puts the team first. But you know as well that the C works kind of differently in North America than it works in Finland for example.

In North America the C is something the best player of the team _usually_ has on his chest (not in Jenner’s case but in most cases throughout history). It’s like a coveted prize for the players. Intangibles boost for your cv.

I don’t value John Tavares as a leader for example. I hope Adam Fantilli is the kind of player who wants to be a Blue Jacket for life. He’s the player I’m most excited about in this organization.

Fantilli’s agent: “Adam, just keep your mouth shut. Don’t say anything bad about these chumps. Yet. Be a good soldier.”

—— 2 years pass ——

Jarmo: “Adam, you are an important part of the team, but we have to to keep the salary cap in mind. We are going to offer you a 3 x $7.5 million bridge deal.”

Fantilli’s agent: “You are going to offer this kid an 8 x $14 million extension or we are calling a press conference to demand a trade and tell everyone what kind of a clown Babcock really was.”

Portzline: “Today Adam Fantilli signed the largest contract in CBJ history — $112 million over 8 years.”

My goodness. Can we be realistic here?

Jarmo probably won’t be the one signing that contract.

I think he should be fired already. Keeping him has no upside. Best case scenario is the whole team rallies around this and miraculously grabs an 8th seed. Jarmo keeps his job. Then what? Will Jarmo be able to negotiate with the young guys? It seems to me that the front office worked out some sort of deal with Babcock. Jarmo’s praise for the guy is BS. The young guys are not tied to it. The smart move is to keep your mouth shut and then leverage the situation later. “You can try to hold our contracts down, Jarmo, but we’ll point out the things the guy you picked did. And then you praised him after you knew what happened.”

Do negotiations work that way?

"Yeah I didn't play well enough to earn that this year but you made a bad mistake a year or two ago so pay me more"?

I'm not saying keep Jarmo I just have no idea what you're talking about.

Mistakes happen. Jarmo and JD embarrassed themselves and the organization. It’s not like they kept him around and doubled down on it, they got rid of him.

Being concerned about the fallout is fine, I am too, but just downright assuming Fantilli-CBJ relationship is going to be ruined over this already is a bit of a stretch, no?
