Wtf? I said I HOPE he doesn’t turn out certain ways.

I mentioned Scheifele and Eichel as examples.

I don’t need to have any articles to show.

And if you go by just articles then you’d think Laine is one of the worst human beings in the league. Articles rarely ever tell us the whole picture when it’s about something happening behind closed doors. This coming from someone who works in the industry.

Again, I said I ’hope’ he is/will be the kind of leader who sticks with the team and puts the team first. But you know as well that the C works kind of differently in North America than it works in Finland for example.

In North America the C is something the best player of the team _usually_ has on his chest (not in Jenner’s case but in most cases throughout history). It’s like a coveted prize for the players. Intangibles boost for your cv.

I don’t value John Tavares as a leader for example. I hope Adam Fantilli is the kind of player who wants to be a Blue Jacket for life. He’s the player I’m most excited about in this organization.

I’m just so tired with the world is ending thinking many go here by

Just can’t enjoy anything, always have to think about what if all goes wrong.

They got the best prospect in franchise history at 3 and could we just enjoy the ride?

I'm running out of threads to avoid the Babcock discussion. I was hoping this was the Fantilli thread and unfortunately I think someone did a copy and paste on this one too... sigh.

Hey, just confirming that you guys see Fantilli playing as your 2C this year? Do you think there's a chance he plays the 1C role (or 1C for PP)?

To me, it depends on whether Laine plays center or not. Because I doubt Vincent will move Jenner to the third line.

Since you are probably thinking fantasy hockey value, I'd say Fantilli is good for 60+ pts, definitely a top 6 to start with and is going to be in one of the PP groups. Potential for #1 C but I think it will be Laine instead and they won't play together in a line. Jenner might be a better late round pick, has C and LW

Fantilli will be a good waiver add in fantasy, I wouldn't draft him though, just get him from free agents. Add Laine around 100-120th. He'll have C, RW, LW and if he stays healthy, you'll get about as much production as Matthews or Pasta

But he'd likely still play top 6 minutes you think, just perhaps not centre?

He'll probably play a lot of minutes regardless just because he's so versatile.

We're trying out some two-center lines where defensive duties and maybe faceoffs and breakouts are shared. It's possible Fantilli shares center with KJ or with Laine. It's not clear what would constitute a 1st line for us, perhaps if Laine and Fantilli are together that would be it.

What if he's really good and takes Laine and Gadreu as wingers.
As a Jet fan , I think I know Patrick's limitations. I could be very wrong though, coaching is huge,

That could be one of the best in the league

They had instant chemistry as you'd expect for great hockey players. Laine is at 2 points per game as Center so far, would not surprise me if they had Laine as 1 C and Fantilli as 2 .

If they play together and stay healthy, 80+ for Fants, 100+ for Patty

I think it's possible. He'll definitely play in the powerplay. Probably in the 1PP Unit. In addition, it's possible that the time would be more split minimum between the second and third lines if he played center third.

It seems sometimes that the normal rules don't apply to Fantilli. But he still might have to deal with the "rookie wall" in the second half. It hit Beniers hard last year.

How has he looked? TBH, I have not seen him play - I've seen every Bedard game, not one Fantilli game.

Any chance he plays for Canada at the World Juniors?
(* I hope someone replies, "Yes!". *)

Thanks for answering.

If he's only been mediocre, why is no chance he plays at the WJR's?
Because its only Game 3 of his career, even with being mediocre he is clearly above junior hockey, and he's already got a gold medal. There's nothing left for him to do.

Fair enough. As for me, I hope he plays one last World Juniors.
This team didnt let Sillinger go back when he was struggling in a major way.

Fantilli is holding his own, not really taking over which a kid a couple games into his NHL career shouldnt be expected to do anyway. You can see the speed and shot but the team gets so disconnected its hard for a kid to shine. He's gotta be more aggresive at times, I dont think hes been assertive on the ice yet and still kind of acting like a rookie when he should just be playing hockey but that will all come with time. The team has laid 2 stinkers so hopefully the guys getting paid the major $ get their shit together it makes it easier for the young guys to do their thing

Just a little food for thought regarding Fantilli. Check out the first year stats of these 3 players.

The jump to the NHL is not an easy one for most players. It takes some time for most to start being highly productive players.

A couple times Fantilli and Tex have gotten in on the forecheck as a duo and looked unstoppable. We're not in the offensive zone often, I don't think Fantilli individually is a part of the problem (just like I don't think Laine at center is). We've got a structural issue getting through the neutral zone that is preventing players from doing anything.

Maybe wrong thread for this, but then why aren't there in-game adjustments? Too stubborn coaching staff, too early in the season or not enough HC experience? Or players (especially vets) should have made adjustments.

You and others have alluded to two possible adjustments: dump-and-chase or stretch passes behind the defense. Why weren't adjustments made during 2nd period (or at least between 2nd and 3rd)? Not beating a "coach sucks" drum here - genuinely curious because last night was first TV game for me. Game 1 from seat in NWA looked similar. Game 2 from seat in NWA looked different but still worrisome.
To my eye, it just looked like CBJ was listless as a group (with a few exceptions). I am not arguing that as a point - it may be that the insistence on the "advance as a group with short passes" strategy simply made it look that way. But not seeing much engagement, other than 2 periods vs. NYR.
Is it just still thinking about a new system and not "just playing" even for the vets?

Last night hurt my eyes, among other body parts.

Oh there was adjustments during the game last night they just failed to execute it correctly. In the second Detroit was fanned out at the blueline to pretty much lock down any offensive zone entry and they were successful at it. The answer to get around that is to have the first pass from the defenseman to get a good stretch pass but we kept failing to make those connections. You can tell your players to do something but they need to execute it properly. These types of changes takes like 10-15 games to really get down to be second nature.

What really was the problem last night really is 2 fold. Veterans taking stupid penalties that chained into more stupid penalties and the other was they legit rolled over like they did last year during a blowout game. That's not a systems issue that's mentality that needs to be broken like now at this level of play. They were buzzing the first period the problem is most of the team went back to last year's mind state halfway through the second.
