I’d say he’s looked great for a +1 player.

Probably the biggest offensive threat they’ve had this year, creates lot of scoring chances and has been able so showcase his speed in moments.

How many forwards post Matthews/Laine draft have looked better in their +1 season?
Bedard for sure. You could probably make a case for Hischier, both Tkachuk’s. Good company though.

pascal’s usage of him has been so maddening to watch.

The question is how much of an advantage is there from being more rested than the opposition?

It varies by player. A lot of rookies like Carlsson that are still growing will play better with more rest. He's being handled well. With Fantilli I don't think it matters, he could actually handle a little bit more minutes.

FWIW I agree with folks that Fantilli could be scoring more if he was on a good line and we didn't have so many problems with Laine and other players not performing. And if our PP was good, etc... etc... But he's playing well and getting better at a variety of things and I don't see any problem with his development. I'm hugely excited for this player.

There's nothing wrong with him at this stage, if anything its really impressive how much he's improved alone the past few weeks to the point he's starting to get some true 1C looks. During the summer I said I wouldn't be surprised by Christmas he would be getting true 1C moments and we are almost on schedule it just got delayed because Boone is like wine who gets finer with age (except when he had that god awful 80s mustache phase a few weeks ago). Can't help if his linemates have been playing at an AHL level.

idk he's playing 15 mins a game and on the top pp unit. that seems fine for a rookie? maddening seems to be a bit of hyperbole

meanwhile leo carlsson is playing 3 minutes more a night while on the top PP unit and top line (when he does play)

I don’t think 15 minutes a night is anything to write home about. he’s had multiple games where he’s had less than 12 minutes TOI.

6 players on that list (screenshot) above have an equal or higher TOI average than fantilli.

In the last game in the first period they played great, skating, short passes more than once, creating space, they just needed to score. What happened in the second and especially in the third period not only with them and the team... it seemed that the skating got worse, which made us struggle. I think Laine has problems with self-confidence.

You're right about Adam. He doesn't have issues, he's simply a victim of the play of the entire team. One more important thing. Voronkov's coach was the experienced Zinetula Bilyaledtinov, a master of defense, of playing without the puck. Before that it was Dmitri Kvartalnov, who knew how to use a similar of players, using forechecking, playing without the puck, blocking shooting lanes. That experience, I think, is very important, that's why Dima is better than him right now. But Adam will learn that and, in my opinion. Laine will find his game.

To the coaches. Do you remember Valeri Nichushkin's problems, which were one of the reasons why he went to the KHL for one season? He was lucky in CSKA to have a coach. Igor Nikitin uses a similar playing philosophy to Bill ( Zinetula Bilyaledtinov's nick), which Valeri gane different habits and what has helped him.

Usage is fine, and I think his line has been improving game by game, so the 5v5 points should start coming in the next few weeks.

It's very possible that Carlsson will score more through his career, but I'd still bet on Fantilli being the better playoff player due to his physicality and work ethic

Fantilli hasn't played more 60 games in a season, maybe a few more including jr's. It's not about how much TOI he's getting on a nightly basis, he's going to have to get his body used to the grind. He played a whoping 35 games last season at Michigan and another handful during jr's, he's almost to the point where he was at the end of the season last year. Carlsson is getting less GP, Fantilli is seeing less TOI.

He's 19, he doesn't need to getting true 1C minutes yet.

Fantilli will be the better player … it’s pretty easy to understand his offensive numbers at this point . The veteran linemates he has been saddled with have badly underperformed , and Columbus has a horrible powerplay . Columbus on the season has 10 powerplay goals .. Anaheim has 17 power play goals , and they have played 2 less games . I swear that it’s become acceptable in our culture here that is ok to have a horrible powerplay . Vincent has marched out the same guys all season on the top powerplay . Zach should not be on the top powerplay , slow deliberate passes are what we’ve seen all season . Laine on the point is a joke .. he continues to fumble the puck, not keep the puck in the zone , make risky passes trying to enter the zone , lastly Boone shouldn’t be on the top powerplay . Take Voronkovs 6ft 5 240lb frame , and put him in front of the net . It’s maddening to watch the top powerplay get 1min 30 sec every powerplay , and watch slow perimeter passes , and Zach trying to float writers from the point

Pages 12-14 in this thread had a lot of predictions for Fantilli’s scoring during the 23/24 season.

With around 1/3 of the season gone, Fantilli is on pace for 35 points (7th in scoring).

How do people view that? What is your new prediction (if any)? I know some people had penciled him in for 70. I’d wager they thought the team as a whole would be better but Idk.
40-50 points, top 5 in scoring on the team. Anything above that is exceeding expectations IMO.
I think I still like my prediction, a little more PP scoring could get him above 40 I’d say.

Mine are definitely way off, I had visions of Gaudreau Fantilli and Laine clicking and being a dangerous line, but I didn't think that it was going to be Gaudreau and Laine that would be the issue. I think it's still possible for him to hit 50 and even if he doesn't im not worried.

And what do you wonder. Instead of Laine playing on the left side and Boqvist being the QB, put Laine on the right side with Werenski at QB. Of course Zach plays like play, so Laine, since he can't use the one-timer, has to take a risk if he doesn't want to play like he did when Johnny was there, who preferred to return to Zach since the passing spot was covered.
Now the coaches have come up with a new "great" plan, two LH defenders, of course, Zach is one of them. All it needs is Peeke in the 1st PP Unit and it will be perfect.
By the way, Boone is playing great in front of the net and scoring goals at the same time.

Fantilli plays with a passion and gets genuinely excited when good things happen on the ice. His reaction to his first goal last night showed his unbridled enthusiasm.

In the game vs. LA, he was genuinely thrilled for Olivier when he scored.

This guy is captain material. His passion and fire combined with his skills as a player and his utter disdain of losing would seem to demand that he gets the ultimate team leadership position. The timing of his ascension to this role is the only thing that needs to be determined.

There's a game tonight.

It's seems to me that he can be captain only if Jenner isn't play here. The same applies to the assistant.
I don't know what to think. I'm starting to get the feeling that it's not him but Jakub Voracek that will be joining the booth in the 2021/22 season. I've always been a Boone supporter, see last discussion. But now I'm not sure if @cbjthrowaway wasn't right. I hope I'm wrong, Boone is one of my favorite players, he is a great warrior and a good player.
