If you look at that Colorado team their highest scoring forward had 70 points and Mackinnon had 63.
That Colorado team made the playoffs MacKinnon’s rookie year. Yeah, 70 points in 71 games played. MacKinnon was 4th on his team in scoring.

Johnny Gaudreau scored 74 points last year and missed 2 games. Some people are penciling Fantilli in for Gaudreau numbers year 1 (the question was w.r.t. point total expectations)? Austin Matthews scored 40G as a rookie and didn’t hit 70 points, on a much better team than the Jackets!
& the middle is so weak that there’s definitely chance for Fantilli to earn top6 linemates quick
I am aware.

You probably just weren't following many scouts. Fantilli's play selection has been a topic of debate all year, among other attributes that are often grouped under IQ (I personally try to avoid the concept of IQ, it's too amorphous). Elite prospects scouts, hockeyprospect, etc... It's not a fan thing, scouts talk about it.
Granted, I didn't look at hockeyprospect ... but I did visit quite a few and also have a subscription to Elite Prospects and here's a snippet of what they had to say:

"He’s physical. His motor never stops. And his on-ice intelligence is ever-present in the defensive and neutral zones as it is the offensive third."

You know Gaudreau scored 115 points in the previous year, the scoring is way higher than it was back then.
This team has ability to score a lot more points than that Colorado team 10 years ago, healthy& motivated Gaudreau should be good for 90 points

& Matthews scoring 40 again in a lower scoring league was an insane result.

I certainly don’t demand 70 points but you can’t just straight up compare this NHL to what it was 7-10 years ago with how the scoring has changed. The days of winning the scoring race with 87 points are gone

They have quite a bit in this show about Fantilli

Whole thing is on YouTube

Edit: I like at the end they ask what everyone's next goal was and everyone says something about winning or getting the cop. And both Bedard and Fantilli are like yeah we just wanna make the team and establish ourselves in the NHL.

Gaudreau scoring that many points on a different team means very little. CBJ have always played in a structure where point totals are lower than other teams. I expect more of the same with Babcock.

Scoring 70 points has occurred 7 times in franchise history. None of them have occurred during a rookie season.

52 rookies in NHL history have hit 70 points. 7 players have done so since 2000. Just two have done so the same year they were drafted (Crosby, Kane).

Great we picked a guy who doesn’t want to win and puts selfish goals before team goals. Total CBJ luck

I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic but I looked at it as those guys are being humble but also have a mindset of one step at a time. They know they were picked by teams at the bottom of the draft and that they aren't going to win the cup next season. You gotta take this one step at a time. First make the team, next establish yourself as an actual NHL player and then you start looking at the bigger goals. Your name and draft position don't mean shit from this point on.

I'd argue this teams makeup is waaaaay different than the historical makeup of our previous rosters. We were very much a gritty, in your face "hard to play against" type team. Part of that was coaching but the other half of that was roster make-up. This teams constructed with a lot more skill based guys. Even looking at the defensive corps, our only real "physical" guys are Gudbranson and maybe Provorov. I get the feeling Jarmo wants to play more like Jersey than Boston.

Yes - I know the whole thing is in youtube is was in the link of the tweet

For whatever it’s worth, Zach spent two seasons at Michigan, not one, and joined the CBJ a year after his draft, not immediately (although he was nine months younger than Fantilli).

I don’t think it’s worth much anyway, because Z wasn’t the best player in the country even in his sophomore season the way Fantilli was as a frosh, nor was he as big/strong.

I'm trying to remember Werenski before he filled out and I can't. He showed up to camp at age 19 and he was already a brick shithouse.

Appears you might be right and I misremembered based on combine/Michigan listed weights.

Regardless, Z wasn’t here his immediate post-draft season so it’s not really a direct comparable to ask him, but at the same time, he probably would’ve been at least decently fine if he was (based on his Calder Cup performance and then his rookie year) and he wasn’t even as good of a college player as Fantilli.

I know this is about Fantilli but its just another thing where Werenski is the vocal leader. Dont know that there is much debate of who the next captain is. Fantilli could be an option someday though, he seems like a mature kid that has strong leadership qualities

Because it's Jiricek, right? That's where you were going with this, surely.

I don't see Werenski as super vocal, just sort of average while Boone is a mute. They'd all make fine captains. And maybe Fantilli or KJ would too.
