2022 has the potential to be an all timer for the Habs.

Agree. Slaf potential to be a dominant powerforward. Beck potential to be a solid two-way C at NHL level. Mesar have talent to become something aswell. Hutson have potential to be a star. Engstrom have potential to be at least a top 4 D.

This draft is amazing by Habs!

Best swedish prospect since Nichlas Torp

I think we can safely go back to Patrik Kjellberg/Peter Popovic.

More seriously, probably our 2nd best Swedish pick after Naslund, although that isn't really hard to do since apart from him, we only drafted busts, journeymen or flash in the pan (like Dahlin).

If they both pan out as expected, can we afford to have both him and Hutson in the same squad? Man, that LD is deep... and I'm starting to think that Engstrom will be the one to make Matheson expandable: they'll make space for Hutson and potentially move Xhekaj or Harris to RD but when Engstrom gets here it will just be too much.

Engstrom can play on the right side. It’s the good thing about him and what could give him a good chance.

Perhaps shielding a D like Hutson so he can blossom into being a star?

We are inevitably going to have to trade guys who will be useful NHLers to other teams. We have too many supporting cast type of players coming up.

Nice little vid. I'm seeing the D I saw at the WJCs with my own eyes. Don't get to see much of that in his offensive highlights which are great in themselves.

Horrible pass but that recovery takeaway was gorgeous. I think many of us fans underrate him a bit because they just can't comprehend how good we have it back there, but he's up there with our best D prospects. The upside is comparable but he's less question mark-y than just about any of them.

He has everything. He doesn't quite have Mailloux or Hutson's giant offensive tool sets but he's just really not that far off. He is absurdly smooth. Skating wise and with the puck. Possess a really good shot and great hands. If he was anymore offensively gifted, I'd slate him as a future top pairing guy without hesitation. If he can really turn up the production this year then all bets are off.
I'm still trying to remember whether Engstrom was a defense first kind of player learning to explore the offensive side of the game or the other way around because man, he looks good on either side of the puck! A couple of those later clips where he's defending - he just blankets the forward and sucks all the oxygen out of any opportunity given. What a beauty!!!

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Engstrom
...
Damn. I know we're all starved for offensive stars up-front but having high quality puck-movers throughout our entire D will be SO important for offense creation. I hope in 3 years we can all forget about 2010-2022, when 95% of zone exits were just "shooting the puck on the boards and hoping for a fortunate bounce".

You forgot about Matheson, Trudeau, Mailloux, Barron, Xhekaj, Struble, and Harris ;-)
Yeaaaah they'll have to fight for the remaining spots (again, in the scenario where Hutson, Reinbacher and Engstrom develop as expected). Think mgmt likes Xhekaj too much to let him go (esp. if we have 2 smaller Ds in the top-4), and I hope this would make Matheson expendable as our best trade chip in the next 2 years.

Barron I could see settle as a top-6 D on a contender, but I'm not sure he'll be the right fit.

Mailloux... let's just say I'm not a fan.

Harris will be traded provided there's too much congestion.

The rest won't cut it.

Matheson cannot be traded until and unless we have 3 guys who are top 1-3 calibre.
