Was reported this is more to do with his dad known in NHl circles and putting it in his son's head that he's better than what he's. So in essence he's not willing to work himself up from 4c. He wants a roster spot and top 4 or 6 role right away.

The wild, Guerin tood his advisors to come up with twelve teams or wait

Andrew hanging out with Claude Lemieux these days?

Makes you wonder. Most rookies know they need to earn their roster spot and you would think he would be looking at Jost, Gaudreau, and Rossi as his competition right now not JEE. There may be more to it, or he expects a top 6 role to just be handed to him in which case i'd have concerns as a GM.

What Russo hinted at, is that McBain thinks he's more of a bottom 6 C long term in the NHL. And The Wild do have plenty of those guys under contract, and playing on the team.

JEE has the third line slot locked up for a 8 years, Gaudrau is under contract and likely to be replaced by Rossi next year, Duhaime and Dewer have seen extensive NHL minutes this year as rookies, and played well on the 4th line. Bjugstad and Hartman can both play C (if Hartman falls back to earth).

He probably realizes he's not being handed a top 6 spot anywhere, and the bottom 6 is actually quite full in Minnesota.

That makes more sense. I don't watch many Wild games, and always thought JEE was their 2C especially with the minutes he plays.

Someone on the Leafs board speculated that Joey Anderson might be a good fit in a McBain trade. 23, RW, Minnesota kid, former World junior captain, 33 points in 40 AHL GP, signed through next season at league minimum.

Ek kind of is the 2C, and kind of isn't. Like when you see the lineups posted the Ek line is usually posted as the second line, and play a ton of minutes. But they are the shut down line, which traditionally people consider the 3rd line.

The Greenway-Ek-Foligno line is just so dominant, they kind of break that mold of how people consider tradtional lines (top line, scoring line, shutdown and checking).

Regardless, the point stands that McBain is rumored to see his role on a shutdown/checking line in the NHL, and we're full of those players.

Florida 2nd + Sheahan for McBain + Rask + 5th? Seattle can use all the young NHL ready talent they can get. They help Minnesota with more capspace as well this year if needed while sending back a depth C for a late pick.
The Wild have over 10MM in accrued cap space for this season, no need at all to shed salary. If Rask is moved it would be done at a not negative cost, simply to give him the opportunity to show if he has anything left to play in the NHL, but if no team needs the body then he can stay in the AHL mentoring the youth. Expiring contract and since it was the previous regime, Guerin has no skin in the game to move the money off the books at the cost of futures, Leipold has shown dead money isn’t a concern as long it fits in the long term benefit to the team. Long way of saying, The Wild don’t need Sheahan, and FLAs 2nd is the worst of the requested 2nd rounders that they would look to acquire.

I would counter offer for Soucy back though, McBain and a sweetener.

To Wild: Robertson
To NYR: McBain (signed)

Rangers need young centers, does Wild need a young LD?

what am i missing with him hes had bad stats until hes senior year

If it were me, I'd be mildly worried that his senior year shooting percentage (23.5%) might be a bit unsustainable. His first three years, he shot a more normal-ish 12.6%.

On the flip side, an acquiring team would be swapping a pick for somebody who could potentially challenge for an NHL roster spot immediately. He has to sign an ELC, so it would be minimal risk even if he doesn't pan out.

2nd rounder for a guy who can walk to august.

Not taking that chance

Not too long ago Buffalo traded a 3rd for negotiating rights and the player walked to august.

He had a pretty drastic change in usage this year. He played shut down role, PKer in years past with limited to no PP time (as that was pretty much all taken up by Boldy/Newhook). Like he didn't have a single PP goal last year, but has 8 this year.

So the raw numbers don't really tell the full story there in his previous seasons, as usage often dictates raw points and he's not going to beat out Newhook/Boldy for prime scoring opportunities the past two years. But he's a solid 200 ft player.

I guess that's why his camp is talking to other teams and giving Guerin a list of teams he would sign with now

Obviously, a team isn't going to trade a 2nd for him if he isn't going to sign that instant.

Some conflicting reports, but it seems like either Minnesota gave McBain's camp permission to speak to other teams or that they need to provide a list of teams that he would sign with otherwise they'd make him wait until August (and not burn the first year of ELC).
