Acciari hit by Dillon - 5min major (suspended 3 games)

Toews said it about the Mitchell hit that concussed him and if I recall correctly Matthew Tkachuk did about the hit that broke his sternum in the playoffs last year.

Just watched the Toews hit and if he actually said that that might indicate his brain injuries from the hit is more severe than previously acknowledged. There is absolute nothing Toews could have done unless his plan is to keep his head up priority 1 all the time and priority 2 is to play hockey! There is not a single player that has not been in the position Toews was in receiving that hit.

All this talk of the players receiving hits as liable is toxic AF! All it does is it to serve an excuse for the real perpetrators who ruins careers and lifes!

My face after player safety suspended Dillion after all the hot takes on here saying he was wronged by the refs.

One game for the hit, one game for being a small market, then tack on another game for the Canadian tax.

Trouba would have been invited out for lunch with Parros. Parros would have proceeded with picking up the tab and then fine Trouba for less money than that of the lunch tab.… “oh, and don’t forget to bring our buddy Nick… I’ll get his lunch as well. “

Acciari saw him in good time and didnt brace for the hit, instead he decided it was a good idea to Lean forward after the puck. How does this become 3 games? If this is 3 games then Dops need to start punishing Gallagher like hits with 10 games. This makes no sense

Sigh…. He’s not getting screwed. He illegally injured another player. It’s no different than a player being 3-4 feet away and facing the boards. Dillion didn’t have to hit him. But he sure has to make sure he gets body and not head. He got him completely in the head.
get some damn glasses, dillion stood his ground and had his arms to his side. accari skated right into him. lmao 2min max

Cmon now.. he clearly skated head first into him. If anything, he should've got 2 minutes for charging with his head! Dillon is a victim of another reckless player skating around head first into elbows and shoulders.

Whenever Acciari gains conciousness and remembers where he is.. I'd suspend him for life!

My disdain about the current ineptitude at the DOPS is more at the NHL/Bettman than at Parros.

Parros is doing a lousy job, don’t get me wrong. But if I decide to start up a health club and I ask Ronald McDonald to be my head dietician and it fails …. should the outrage be at him, or should it be at the idiot who put Rotten Ronnie in charge of helping people eat healthy?

To buy that this is 3 games, you have to buy that:

* This is worse than Erik Gudbranson intentionally going after Nick Cousins and beating the hell out of him on the ice [for retaliation for getting boarded earlier in the game] (1 game)
* This is worse than Ryan Hartman slewfooting tripping Alex Debrincat (2 games - and Hartman was a repeat offender for that, and then intentionally high-sticked Cole Perfetti a little over a month ago and inexplicably only got fined for it)
* This is worse than Jacob Trouba elbowing Pavel Dorofeyev (2 games, after being fined $5K in November for whacking Trent Frederic in the head and inexplicably not getting suspended for it)
* This is worse than Brendan Smith slashing Travis Konecky [who cross-checks Smith before, and got fined for it] (2 games)
* This is worse than Connor Clifton hitting Nico Hischier in the head (2 games)

And probably a few others just from this year. And a few of these, ... that's a really tough sell, IMO.

And that's why I and others perpetually have an issue with the Department of "Player Safety" - because when you start laying out events in relation to each other, there's no consistency and the Do"PS" clearly has no interest in trying to establish any kind of consistency.

All that is very well said and completely true and its a big issue.

But most of the discussion in this thread is more in general terms of Dillon being innocent because Acciari "skated into him!", which is ludicrous.

I actually find the punishment of this hit to be reasonable, 2 games I would have been fine with. The bigger problem lies in the examples you are posting not being punished much harder!

If they took this case and handled out suspensions correctly in relation to this one, it would be a massive improvement, But more likely we´ll see a Bertuzzi incident only get 2 games next and back to square one.

The DOPS lottery is real, at least Dillon deserved a ticket to it!

I assume you have glasses so I’ll ask you this.

Where was Dillon skating to if acciari skated right into him?

Was Dillon working hard to slam himself into the boards? Lol

Dillon was going to level him. He hit him in the head before anything else. He got properly punished for it.

God I hope Connor gets hit just like this one day so we can all watch the reaction hahaha

And again, there's the problem. If you're an NHL player with a screw half loose, there's no clear disincentive to doing something like that because there's a decent chance it'll be a relative slap on the wrist and it's a non-trivial chance you get away with nothing.

I've said it before, I'm going to say it again: If the NHLPA really cared about protecting its players, it would demand more stringent punishment to get this shit out of the game. It's been a while since you heard even lip service from the union about it and even longer since you heard a forceful call or the league to do something - which leads me to conclude the NHLPA is complicit in doling out minimal punishments that allow this stuff to keep happening.

If you're a member of the NHLPA trying to earn an honest living and get out of the game with your head and body in good shape, that should piss you the hell off.

Of course any Jets fans are going to be labeled as biased, but this 3 game suspension on Dillon is garbage. Hope Accari is okay of course, but he skated right into Dillon. Dillon made no overt motion to the head.

I caught a buddy of mine right in the chin, sent him pinwheeling through the air. Luckily we weighed 120 and moved 1/3 the speed of NHLers, but I really popped this kid and didn’t mean to.

I think the nhl has a problem in that some of these headshots aren’t at all intentional.. but then they’re just part of hitting, and that’s worse.

I was guessing two games. He hit the guy in the head. Dillon needs to bend his knees and get lower there.

It’s not a dirty play but it’s a bad hit. Shoulder to head. 2 games would have been more appropriate.
