Acciari hit by Dillon - 5min major (suspended 3 games)

The DOPS decision baffles me. Dillon got to the spot of the collision first, braced for impact (with elbow tucked), but was basically stationary. Aciari was speeding up the ice and yes, basically skated into his shoulder. I don't know what anyone could have reasonably expected Dillon to do differently.

edit: for the record, in general I think the DOPS is way to lax when it comes to discipline, but they swung and missed on this one.

Dillon came in at an angle, had a lot of time to see Acciari with his head down and decided to launch upwards. It was clearly an intentional headshot made to hit as high as possible. Also, how was Dillon stationary when he was moving the whole time across the ice?

first thought:

keep your head up. I dunno why Dillon even got suspended here. Acciari skating hunched over with his head down,
should Dillon have just let him go by? whats the point of even having dman here? '

2nd thought:
oh nvm that 2nd view spells a different story. ok I agree with the suspension

The optics of this will generate the 1 game suspension.

Seems like it's more unfortunate than intentional

Should have read the whole title lol.

DOPS are morons

A) How do you prove intent?

It’s really hard but in this one you can see where he’s looking before he gets to acciari. You can also see he has plenty of time to adjust his path. He could have levelled acciari, hitting his whole body. Instead he put his shoulder to Acciaris head. A head that was there the whole time. Acciari didn’t lean forward at the last second.

And then you can look at how he’s hit in the past. Nobody has said a word about the vid I posted when he hit a guy and broke his jaw. Again…he had plenty of time to choose how to hit him and he chose to jump and catch his head first.

I guess sometimes he intends to hit guys heads

I don't see much intent in terms of shoulder (meaning he doesn't lean in or push it out). The only thing I could see as "intentional" in that is that he didn't avoid the hit, he continued to close the path. If I was coaching him I would expect him to do so and hold him accountable to do so.

The Teddy Blueger hit was the very first thing I thought of when the Acciari play happened. Seems like it's something that he enjoys doing.

He didn’t need to lean in or push it out. Acciaris head was there for a while. Dillon chose a path that he knew was gonna connect his shoulder with acciaris head and not his body.

Just like he did in the vid where he broke a guys jaw with his shoulder.

What constitutes "a while"? Tenths of a second?

Eh, seems pretty iffy to me. He just held his ground and the guy skated into him. Just an unfortunate result really.
He held his ground by skating towards Acciari and making direct contact with his head? Dillon has a history of doing dirty hits vs the Pens.

Man, I don't know. Reckless hit, but the game happens so fast. Acciari kind of charged forward and Dillion just followed through. I don't know about 3 games. Maybe 1 for being reckless, but like I said, the game happens so fast, it's not fair to make a split second decision into a slow motion replay.

Acciari starts leaning forward when he crosses center and then never moves his head again.

I guess we disagree on whether Dillon had time to adjust his path or if he even had to.

I think he plays a certain way and justifies his hit by telling himself “my shoulder was there, acciari put his head there”

I just won’t give Dillon the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t know he was gonna hit acciaris head first, and more than anything else. The way he plays is my reason.

If it is reckless then he should not have made the hit. He owns the result.

So the question is, what is league response to Marchand's play yesterday? Unlike Dillon, Marchand has a lengthy list if disciplnary action. He also has a history of hitting people in the head. Unlike Dillon, he 100% lead with elbow direct to the head.

You're up George Parros.

1:07 mark

Too many variables to use precedent imo.

During play? Yes
Elbow not shoulder.
Dillon also hit way harder. Directly to head. Almost only head
Marchand has a rep
But so does Arvidson. He’s a shit disturber lol

Definitely should be looked at by the DoPS

All that matters is what isn't crossed out. If the league is actually serious about player safety. We already know their concern leans heavier to optics than actual safety.

Sad but true.

If the Dillon hit was on a Saturday night against Vancouver like last night it would have gotten more attention.

Just like the Rielly cross check. If that’s SJ v Anaheim on a Tuesday night people, including the DoPS would give half a shit for sure lol

That should be a suspension. Clearly throws his elbow up intentionally in order to get the head.

Onus should be on the puck carrier. Keep your head up, protect yourself, etc.

Suspensions on plays like this truly are bad for the game.
I disagree. The hitter is responsible for the hit.
