Whenever there is restaurant news, especially involving a chain, someone in the comments often brings up the Ground Round. While at MIT in the late 80's, we went to the GR on Soldier's Field Road a handful of times. The company went belly-up about 20 years ago and the building was empty for a while.

Does anyone remember the Magic Pan on Boylston St.?

So I am learning now that there are competing baseball/softball organizations. My town is Cal Ripken for Baseball and Babe Ruth for softball, other towns are little league. The differences vs. little league for softball are minimal but there are differences on the baseball side which I actually like (Stealing, increased base distance, rookies). But being it's VT there are not enough kids for a travel team plus having the towns sorted into different leagues makes our "tournament" laughably small.

The good thing is that the middle school/high school starts at 7th grade so they will get exposure to the older kids there. My only complaint about minors is I wish they allowed stealing on passed balls. The catcher's will be in for a rude awakening from doing nothing to getting stolen on every few pitches.
Yeah, that's one of the issues we have with the rec in our town. They are not affiliated with anyone other than themselves. The town baseball program is little league, but the softball split from that years ago. So my daughter is mad because she wants to play in the regional little league world series tournament and since our town is not affiliated, she can't. She breaks my balls about signing her up for a Worcester program and trying to get a waiver, but it's a big hassle and she'd most likely not qualify because our town does have softball, just not little league sanctioned.

School ball for us starts in middle school, which is grade 5-8. She went out for the team last year but there were way too many 8th graders so none of the 5th or 6th grade kids made it, except for the coaches daughter. She's hoping to make it this year but they need to hire a new coach since the one from last year quit.

"Being on fire" requires a supporting story, lol - if you're comfortable, of course

my house growing up was across dirt road from a peat bog. Perfect for burning in the fall so we could skate. A day after our annual fire,I was about 8, went and walked out on it.
My foot broke through the crusted peat. It was still smoldering below. When I pulled my leg out the air combusted.
Whole lower leg in flames. The PF flyers sneakers I was wearing the rubber ankle insignia, vulcanized right down to the ankle bone.
Had to go to. Doc everyday for weeks to save the foot. Peel off dead skin. Hurt like hell. Then finally a graft. Left a helluva round scar and still sensitive to temperature.

actual pics.

1. Describe your ideal weather

65-70 degrees, sunny and no humitity.

2. In honour of ol' spring-loaded shovel , what is the most painful thing you've ever experienced? Physically painful, that is.

Kidney stones. The pain and nausea was out of control and they had to give me morphine just to take the edge off. Was in the hospital for 3 nights because of the havoc it caused.

3. Where was the greenest place you've ever set foot?

Minnehaha State Park just outside Minneapolis, MN. Absolutely stunning. Locally, Millennium Park in West Roxbury (part of Boston, near the burbs).

4. Which of your own physical features do you find most attractive?

My eyes. They are a grey-blue green color and depending on what color my shirt is, they will either turn blue or turn grey-green. I have had strangers tell me how beautiful my eyes are and ask if I wear colored contacts. Nope just my genetics at play.

5. How long should one wait after starting a new relationship to get it on with the other person?

Depends on both people and the timing. Every situation is different.

1. Sunny fall day about 22C (72F), love sunny, crisp mornings too though at -20C (-4F)

2. Easy....you know this one will probably come up quite a bit....child birth with hellishly long labour. First was 22 hours, doc promised a shorter one next time....23 hours.

3. I couldn't pick just one, lots of beautiful forests.

4. I have very nice toes.

5. That depends on so many things.

1. Crisp early fall with a light breeze but before it gets too cold.
2. I got an ear infection when I was 23 or 24, and that had me almost crying like an baby
3. Aside from field trips to farms and such as a kid, I don't exactly know. I like nature stuff but it's often coastal so the impression I get isn't green. I'd say Fenway Park because there's a real green-ness to it.
4. I have a good face, at least when I'm in shape. When I was a kid everyone would compliment my dimples but I've covered them with a beard most of my adult life and don't like smiling for pictures anyway.
5. Marriage. Though that's the answer for *should* and there's a lot of shoulds that we're not strong-willed enough to hold up to at a human level.

1. 85 and low humidity. No sweat and can open up the windows.
2. When I snapped my forearm, got the adrenaline dump and had the ear ringing/vision closing in
3. Columbia River Gorge just outside of Portland, OR
4. I've been told my eyes, so we'll go with that
5. Each relationship is different, but if both aren't feeling that type of spark within a couple of dates it's not a good sign IMO

1. 80 degrees with lower humidity, a warm sun, and a light breeze.
2. When I snapped my Plantar Fascia on the bottom of my right foot. Was running to catch a routine fly ball in my Old Man Baseball league when I heard and felt it go pop. Felt like a hot knife rammed through the bottom of my foot.......and I dropped the fly ball. Sucked to have my season end on an error.
3. Glacier National Park. One of my favorite places on the planet.
4. My wife will say its my smile, so I'll go with that.
5. No idea. When you both know its time, then its time.

When I was 20, I had a migraine that lasted for about a week. It was absolutely debilitating. A good doctor and some good painkillers took care of it and it never came back. A horrific toothache a few years ago is a very close second.

Punta Cana, DR.

Hm. I’m not into guys, so I really can’t say. I’ll ask Mrs. 103 and get back to you.

Depends on the person and the relationship. I don’t think there’s a one-size-fits-all answer to this.

I always liked him. He was a decent actor and a decent singer, with a hit in Don't give up on us baby.
He was in the business a long time before he got his breaks in Magnum Force and then Starsky and Hutch. (I remember him in a bad part on Star trek TOS as one of the simple followers of Vol in the episode, The Apple.)

1. Ideal weather? Hmm...I love snow. A little, a lot. A winter wonderland? I do like a crispy, chill, autumn. As long as there is no heat I'm happy.

2. In honor of me getting destroyed in the face by the shovel yesterday, ironically that's not the worse injury or painful. I've got 33 years worth of painful injuries. The time I broke my nose is right up there. And I did that by trying to save my sister from falling off her skateboard, I grabbed her before she fell right on her back, but she pushed her head back and BOOM. Broken nose. Then there was the time I pulled my hamstring in high-school. Softball practice. Never was able to get my starting job back after that. The list goes on and on. I always manage to hurt myself.

3. I honestly don't know that I've ever stepped foot on anything like that. I've definitely seen places in passing, like through a window of a moving car or train. I do have dreams of frolicking through a green pasture one day, so let's hope I find a place, eh?

4. None. But if I have to answer, I'd probably say my eyes. I've got hazel eyes. But in the sun they turn an auburn with like...gold specks? Idk but my friends think that's cool so I'll go with that.

5. Wrong person to ask lol. I don't care what people do with eachother. None of my business. Do what feels right for you. For me? I'm not a hookup girl. It's gonna take time. A lot of time, for me personally, preferably marriage (ooh shocker I know). I need to trust the person. I need to know the person etc boundaries (working on that in therapy) but essentially I wanna be in love. There ya go.

bonus: well considering I got whacked yesterday, I don't feel comfortable enough today to take a picture or smile. But I'll share one from last month, prior to ya know, the shovel incident.

"Except for the coach's daughter."
Yeah, that’s what happened. And it wasn’t a big deal as I used my daughter not making it to help motivate her to work harder, and to teach her that sometimes life isn’t fair. What made it shitty was the coach went around at town games and specifically asked the younger kids to go try out since the team had a lot of older kids that were going to age out the following season. So she sought out kids in 5th and 6th grades and when they went and paid for the tryout, they all got cut. Except for her own daughter, that is...:naughty:

Most painful:

When my back went out. I could barely move without shooting pain. Shuffled around everywhere.

Second place goes to a sprained foot. Fell in front of a grocery store, had to be helped to my car, thankfully I could drive because it was my left foot. Pain was so bad I cried all the way home, had a friend take me to the ER. P.S. me and crutches are a bad combination

Third place was when I fell and hit my head on the corner of a concrete step. Split my head open right between the eyebrows, there was an actual hole. This was on mother's day, we had to drive some distance to get to a doctor, then we had to wait for a plastic surgeon to stitch me up. When they stuck the needle above my eyebrow for the local anesthetic I thought they lit my face up with a blow torch. Had two black eyes for a couple weeks. Scar is still there.

70 degree weather, light breeze, and sunny.

I've been VERY lucky with physical pain in my life (knock on wood). I would say someone in my school hallway was flailing his arms around and nailed me in the index finger. It was hard to grip a pencil that day and it was purple for a couple days but after that it was fine.

3. Where was the greenest place you've ever set foot?

Fenway Park. PNC Park a close 2nd. Not too big into nature besides my favorite walking trails.

4. Which of your own physical features do you find most attractive?

I think I have a nice smile if that counts.

5. How long should one wait after starting a new relationship to get it on with the other person?

I don't know. That's not my business. That's something my friends and I don't discuss and I'm glad that's the case. Private stuff should be private.

Another solid list. Here goes:

1. Describe your ideal weather
82 and sunny

2. In honour of ol' spring-loaded shovel @Mione134 , what is the most painful thing you've ever experienced? Physically painful, that is.
Frostbite. Feb of 2022, me and my two older children went to Ottawa to skate the canal. (Just after the stupid trucker rally finally cleared). My autistic son is immune to cold, and on Friday afternoon when it was about 4 degrees F, snowing and windy, he decided a skate was in order. I made the fatal mistake of 1) not having a pair of thin gloves under my gloves; and 2) double-knotting our skates.

By the time I got his skates off my hands were on fire from the cold, then they went numb. I had to watch myself untie my skates because I couldn't feel anything. I debated keeping my skates on for the 1/4 mile walk back to the car, but thought better of it.

The rest of the trip to the car was a comedy of errors. Couldn't get my gloves back on my hands. Couldn't get my credit card out of my wallet to pay for parking. Thought I lost my keys but they were in my pocket, just couldn't feel them.

I've had my share of fights and mishaps, but when my fingers started getting feeling back, that was pain like I never felt before.

3. Where was the greenest place you've ever set foot?
Muckross gardens, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Spent the summer of '81 in Ireland with my mom's family, and my uncle worked there. Gorgeous. Muckross House Killarney Ireland, Muckross Park, Ring of Kerry, Killarney attractions

4. Which of your own physical features do you find most attractive?
Never really thought of that one. People say I always have a smile on my face, so I guess my smile?

5. How long should one wait after starting a new relationship to get it on with the other person?
Couldn't tell you . My first date with the missus was February 1991. I got a nice goodnight kiss from her.

I cheated because I'm lazy. Pic from last May when I biked over the GW bridge while in NYC. In the rain, which cut down on bike traffic dramatically.
