Prospect Info: 9OA: Nate Danielson

Outside of Wright or Bedard, hes probably Canadas best center in this age group. With the way he plays, Canada will be taking him at the very least to anchor a shutdown third line. In all likelihood he will play a much bigger role than that, even if he isnt lighting it up.

Its also unlikely that he doesnt start putting up more points but everyone wants to panic so whatever go nuts people

Wright, Bedard, Fantilli, Poitras, Savoie and Celebrini are all ahead of Danielson.

Atleast 3 of them aren’t being made available for the tourney.

Danielson will be competing for a spot with the next tier of centers. Guys like Fraser Minten, Brayden Yager and Carson Rehkopf.

Minten would be direct competition for that two way checking line Center role on the team.

Rehkopf is leading the entire OHL in scoring and on the best team in the league. Tough to ignore if he stays hot for another month.

Yager has built in chemistry with Firkus. Which could be a consideration when you are craming together an all star team in short format tournament.

Edit; Completely forgot about Geekie. Definitely in the mix too.

I didn't mention Kasper because I think he is right placed. Danielson is not. He is caught up in the rules, which isn't a Wings or player management issue. That the team is borderline playoff fodder was known before he was returned. He'll work hard and do what he can until he heads to the AHL next season. My point was, I don't get the rule. Why can't an 18 / 19year old play in the AHL.

He is having trouble scoring a lot in junior, how is playing in the AHL better for him???

The best scenario for both of them is playing together in SHL for 1 more year

Says who? Kasper has 1 pt so far in the AHL, so how is playing in the SHL better?

I could see them be very good together, helping each other on the same line, D&Z like.

D and Z never helped each other that much. They just happened to be extremely talented hockey players playing on the same line. Replace D or Z with let's say Malkin and nothing would have changed.

If Kasper and Danielsson are not good enough there is no way they can magically become better playing with each other.

Forgot about Fantilli because hes definitely not coming back and youre right with the start Poitras had. Savoie I highly doubt, the Savoies brothers were blacklisted by Hockey Canada for whatever reason (theres lots of theories). Now that Matt is back, he'll probably make his first team Canada team ever despite how good offensively hes been everywhere. But I would bet money Canada doesnt have him ahead at all.

Celebrini, way more highly rated as a prospect but its Canada and hes draft eligible. Hes definitely not over Danielson on Canadas list right now.

No offence intended here, but your post is written like someone who doesnt follow Hockey Canada at all.

Wow, Firkus has 40 pts in 19 games. If he can bulk up, Seattle got a steal.

Celebrini was the first line centre and best player for Canada at the U18’s this year. Canada has not been shy about taking 1st overall type talents as 17 year olds. He will be there and play a big role.

They are not going to shun Savoie. Who is clearly one of their best 3 or 4 forwards. My understanding is he was at the Summer development camp. Which in the past has been a rule… they generally won’t take you if you turn down the invite.

Shane Wright is not participating by the sounds of it. So Danielson’s chance to make the team just increased.

Canada has absolutely always been shy about bringing first overall types as 17 year olds, and even if they do make it, they basically never play a big role unless your name is McDavid or Bedard. Some other guys here or there but in general those guys do not play big roles and often dont make the team at all

How many 17 year olds score 2 PPG in college? How is he even in college anyways? He doesn't even turn 18 until after the school year is done. At 6' 190 lbs, Celebrini might be better than Bedard.

Celebrini is on the team

There is no truth to this, fact is they almost always make the team. It’s like a Canadian hockey right of passage. If we have a player clearly earmarked to go 1st overall you are entitled to watch him play over the holidays.

There have been 19 Canadians selected 1st overall since Lindross and 17 of them played for Canada at the WJC’s in their draft year.

The two that didn’t play, were not considered ‘consensus’ 1st overall picks in December.

Celebrini is a lock.

Who were the 2 losers that didn't make the team?

And how f'ing smart is Celebrini if he's in college at 17? (Not a late birthday either, he doesn't turn 18 until next year.) I know less than a handful of kids that skipped a year in school, and that's if I count myself.

Let’s slow your roll with the last sentence. He’s not Bedard good

Technically there was only 1 who ‘didn’t make’ the team. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
You would have to go back to the 1980’s to find more.

They take Celebrini eight days a week. I am not sure, however, if they ultimately play him in the middle during the tournament.

Probably not Bedard good, but Celebrini is the real deal. He's at least Leo Carlson/Adam Fantilli good. Had he been eligible last year, he would likely have gone 2.

Fantilli made the team in his draft year, and put up a respectable 5 points in 7 games. Celebrini is a lock to be at the tournament, and it wouldn't shock me if he's playing in the top 6, and getting PP time. The kid is nasty.

leo carlsson and fanitlli are going to have better overall careers than bedard.

before and after the draft, I said fantilli will have a better career than bedard, now I am adding carlsson. I knew he was good and all, but I now completely understand why hakan made that statement about carlsson was their guy overall. That kid is going to be something very very special and anaheim is starting to build something down there.

It’s amazing what getting a top theee pick can do for your franchise

Must be nice

Celebrini is on the team

He isn't saying he won't be on the team. He is saying he isn't guaranteed to play top line or get big minutes. Canada has long done this with first year WJC players in the 16-17 year old range. Other than gems like McDavid, the younger guys lots of times play lower down the lineup for the more trusted and possibly better defensive players, or vets if you will.

Again, he didn't say he wouldn't be on the team, just that good chance he plays lower in the lineup. Lindros was highly touted so mentioning him doesn't prove your point, as he would be in the gem category. Not saying Celebrini isn't or won't play big minutes, but there are lots of other good players that will make the team and are older and might get the minutes this year. Very small group of younger players that got a big role their first WJC.

I assume you are being sarcastic about Bedard. Kid has 9 goals and 13 pts in his first 13 games, playing on a bad team, that is actually pretty close to how McDavid was producing his first season. Carlsson has 8 pts in 11 games, which is still darn good, but you are making it sound like Bedard is struggling.
