If anyone feels stats dont matter they're flat out lying to make themselves feel better..

Goalie stats matter
Offensive stats matter

They're not the be-all end-all but they do indicate the probability of success at the next level.

Not many prospects failed to produce at lower levels then went on to dominate in the NHL for a career.

No time whatsoever to panic, but, more should be expected
Kasper low point production kinda concern, but , don't forget he is a power forward who never plays in NA. You simply can't do the same in AHL what you did in SHL even much younger. it's fast , skill , but much softer Liga. He just needs to figure out.

Overall stats matter but it's been ~10 games. If Danielson was 2PPG through these games and then went on a 10 game cold streak literally no one would comment on it.

I’m willing to bet there exists effective NHL players that at some point had a 12 game stretch below PPG in juniors.

And again, you seriously think it’s impossible he could have 2 points in 6 games in the NHL after the preseason he had?
I am not saying his career is over because of a 12 game bad stretch. I am saying i am concerned. If he finishes the season below PPG, I will be highly concerned.

I think he could have had 2 pts in 6 games, but I think Benson has been better, is better, and will be better.

Dont disagree and its why I said it's no time to panic..

My point was and remains...offensive stats matter..of course it's no guarantee of future success..however...future success and past success at different levels do go hand in hand and that can not be argued against analytically

I think one of the good things is his two way game pretty much insures he still plays on the WJC team. I have seen a few guys over the years use that tournament to jump start their game to a different level. I would like better counting stats, that isn't a bad view point. I think he is a good player, I like the way he plays the game, and most importantly I like the way it projects around NHL talent. We did get those flashes in the pre-season. He needs to become more dominant as the season moves along, I think he has the talent to do that so let's hope he closes into the holidays better then explodes in the second half the season.

You can be concerned but not think the sky is falling.
Is he even a guarantee to make Canada? Canada is always deep at the Juniors, I hope he's there, but I mean...he has 9 points on the season...

If Kasper can not find his offensive game in the AHL by the end of the year than it is fair to lower expectations.

At the moment, half a dozen games in, is not a time to panic and that I agree with wholeheartedly ..

No guarantee that he makes that roster

He is one of the best checking line and matchup players in his age group. I would be very surprised if he wasn't on their team. His slower start might just knock him out of his ability to play up the lineup in my opinion. I guess we will see, I would be pretty surprised if they didn't bring him, that also might light a huge fire under him.

I love Benson and had him ranked higher than Danielson, but Nate is an excellent prospect. There is virtually zero reason aside from nitpicking to be down on Danielson right now. We are a month into his WHL season... Benson is great but he has been injured already for 10 days and has not played consecutive games since mid-October. What exactly is he doing better than Danielson right now?

What does pointing out his statline show of how about his play? Does it tell you that the Wheat Kings defense lacks good, consistent puck movers? Does it tell you that the forwards are typically not good finishers? Does it tell you the team relies heavily on the goalie Bjarnason most nights? This is very much a story from last year, and he needs to be traded.

Some nights he's amazing, some nights he looks off and appears to be trying to do too much. Is that a sign of a struggling prospect? Have his skills suddenly no longer become translatable to the NHL? Does he have to put an entire dysfunctional team on his back? Give him more time to play, the WJC, and a chance at being traded to a better team.

Danielson showed us what he's capable of in NHL preseason action and it seemed that most people here actually wanted him to have 9 games. Now he's not living up to expectations in the WHL after 12 games?

For the stat watchers, he has an assist today.

Edit: two assists today

They don't scout just on stats. Team Canada has been watching him for years, and I guarantee they watched his preseason games. That will carry a ton more weight than how he's played on a weak Brandon team.

It still matters to put up pts. He should have at least a ppg playing in a juniors. He isn't even scoring at the pace of his lead teammates per game which should still be concerning. Not calling him bust, but I think it is perfectly acceptable to expect a Top 10 pick to put up a good amount of pts in junior after their draft year.

He's had two seasons of PPG play. Let's just give him some time. After 20-30 games we will have a better idea if he's taken a major step back or not.

LOL, looking back at how I felt after the draft and before free agency is great. Really funny.

Damn, this is the fall of Yzerman. Both players suck. IDC I'll be that guy.

Straight up i'm not even gonna pay attention too much anymore.

Last sentence is gold and I have a feeling a busch latte' or two were involed.

Still not the biggest fan of the draft though. I never liked either guy and was upset to watch Yzerman pass on Oliver Moore and Gabe Perreault no just once at 9 but also again with the 2nd first round pick! I didn't even really know who ASP even was at draft night... which was just icing on the cake.

That being said... idk... both those guys went to college which imo was a good route. They'll be there at least two years. Guess we'll just stand by and watch for awhile. Will for sure be rooting for Danielson and ASP now.

Outside of Wright or Bedard, hes probably Canadas best center in this age group. With the way he plays, Canada will be taking him at the very least to anchor a shutdown third line. In all likelihood he will play a much bigger role than that, even if he isnt lighting it up.

Its also unlikely that he doesnt start putting up more points but everyone wants to panic so whatever go nuts people

He could be good second line center , but no more than that, not your team leader

It's a little early for these kinds of prognostications.

Those that have watched Danielson can attest he's played very well on one of the worst CHL teams in any of the three leagues. Let's revisit after the WJC before we declare him a bust, or only a second liner, or a future superstar.

Watch him yesterday, I don't believe he's a bust , but he is also not the guy who could put his team on his shoulders. He is not Datsyuk , Zetterberg or Larkin, Benson probably is.
