It’s amazing what getting a top theee pick can do for your franchise

Must be nice
Stutzle instead of Raymond would have been nice, but this team would still have some big holes.

Gamebreakers like Bedard, Matthews, McDavid seem to come about every 3 or 4 years on average. Wings picked the wrong year to tank.

I assume you are being sarcastic about Bedard. Kid has 9 goals and 13 pts in his first 13 games, playing on a bad team, that is actually pretty close to how McDavid was producing his first season. Carlsson has 8 pts in 11 games, which is still darn good, but you are making it sound like Bedard is struggling.
no, I don't see him as he is struggling. Over a 20 year career, Carlsson will have a much better career imo. Not everything is points. Bedard will probably have more points than both of them, I concede on that and that's great for him. But when did the red wings start winning championships? The same time Yzerman went from 150 point seasons to 80 point seasons for the team (exaggeration for effect).

Anaheim gm even said that they are limiting carlsson's role the first part of this year and he is still averaging the most for a center on their team. If he is being limited, imagine when he isn't? His passing is better than bedard. His IQ seems to be relatively the same if not better (overall, not just goals, but actually seeing the ice on defense as much as offense).

I will make it more clear, Bedard will probably have 3-500 more points than Carlsson over his career, but carlsson is going to have the selke, carlsson is going to have the hart, carlsson is going to have more cups (maybe like 1 more, but that is still more). IF they stay the same prodcution and whatever, they'll both be HOFers, but after 20 years, I think there is going to be a much bigger conversation on Carlsson being overall better. He can operate with anyone (like datsyuk and zetterberg could play with anyone). I don't think bedard can, I think he needs another higher end player to play with.

May be a hot take and that's fine, but the only way I am wrong is if 20 years has passed and we take a look at it.

If matthews and mcdavid (moreso mcdavid) would just learn to play defense more than offense, they both would have had a cup or at least been in the finals a couple of times already.

If only bowman was still coaching i guess lol

At least the fans didn't have to watch Zadina whiff on one timers for 5 years, lol.
true

I like bouchard, but if the rumor is true, we would have had bouchard over hughes. I remember loving wahlstrom lol. I know a lot of people here liked Dobson. But if we had Bouchard, I think we would all still be a little upset (even though I don't think he is that bad), with the pick. I can't help but to think what would Yzerman have done lol. Imagine if he was the one all-in on zadina? A large contingent on here would be saying yeah seider and raymond are great but that's what we though zadina was too lmao.

There is no truth to this, fact is they almost always make the team. It’s like a Canadian hockey right of passage. If we have a player clearly earmarked to go 1st overall you are entitled to watch him play over the holidays.

There have been 19 Canadians selected 1st overall since Lindross and 17 of them played for Canada at the WJC’s in their draft year.

The two that didn’t play, were not considered ‘consensus’ 1st overall picks in December.

Celebrini is a lock.
Maybe I should have been more clear. The discussion was more about who would be ahead of Danielson on the team. I think Celebrini makes it for sure. But how many of those first overall types actually played meaningful minutes in their draft year? Bob Mckenzie says it every year when people are surprised some younger players didnt make it, but Canada very much subscribes to the "its a 19 year olds tournament" mentality.

A big, defensively responsible, top 10 pick is very likely looked at ahead of Celebrini by hockey canada

Who are the high end players that Bedard is playing with right now? Carlsson probably has better linemates. Also, Carlsson is going to win the Hart and the Selke, but Bedard with a lot more pts in your scenario won't have any Harts? Also, who says Carlsson is really good defensively? Kid has played 11 games, and from what you said they are limiting his role, increased role also means playing against the better lines out there.

I also said that the are supposedly limiting his role but he has the most center ice time. It was an oxymoron towards a positive in my argument.

Again, this all doesn't matter. Bedard can have more points but still not get the hart...it sounds like you are insinuating that bedard will have the most points in the league as well, which i don't think happens

No, I was saying going by your sample, Bedard having 500 more pts, would easily win a Hart before a guy with way less pts who is maybe better defensively. As far as rookie starts, Bedard is right there with McDavid and Matthews and a few others of immediately putting up lots of pts and looking like they could have a lot more to come. You can clearly see that Bedard already has IT at the NHL level and he is playing with scrubs in Chicago for the most part. Seeing him set up guys like Perry for easy goals when he is well past his prime. Not saying Carlsson doesn't have it, as 8 pts in 11 games is awesome, but you are acting like Bedard is just doing ok, when he is doing very well already.

I think Bedard is probably a little below McDavid when all is said and done and I do think now that I have seen him in the NHL that he will easily be the best out of his draft class, other great starts aside.

leo carlsson and fanitlli are going to have better overall careers than bedard.

before and after the draft, I said fantilli will have a better career than bedard, now I am adding carlsson. I knew he was good and all, but I now completely understand why hakan made that statement about carlsson was their guy overall. That kid is going to be something very very special and anaheim is starting to build something down there.
Not a chance. There was nothing ore draft and currently nothing post draft to suggest otherwise.

Agreed. Celebrini is a lock. But they all played; maybe not as the lock we hoped, but all played. Wright played, and he and lambert both were screwed by covid. And that's about as bad as the top guys can fall .

Oh, and another Chicago cover up is happening, or happened. The billionaire gets a fine, but the league rewards them with the next generation star!!!!!. Sh*** Arizona gave up a 1st and 2nd for violating combine rules. Ok, they talked to a kid too soon, but Chicago covered up a history of sexual assaults. F***, bettman!!!! Gary's favorite team is being sued again.🤣😇🤣🥰

He is having trouble scoring a lot in junior, how is playing in the AHL better for him???

Says who? Kasper has 1 pt so far in the AHL, so how is playing in the SHL better?

Development is not only about scoring and scoring isn't only about the individual (with rare exception).

Nate needs to shoot the f***ing puck. Someone like him should be averaging close to 5 a game at that level
