Danielson out scored every single one of those forwards just last year.

Cagnoni and Carter Southern are the only names I’ve ever heard of before this season and they plays defense.

Obviously they have put together a nice team and have a nice thing going. But Danielson is the immediate #1 player on that team.

So the coach is gonna replace a kid with 65 pts for Danielson who has 24? I doubt it. Draft position means absolutely nothing to the WHL team. They are not a farm team for the Wings.

This has shutdown role written all over it. Watch.... though their third line is pretty close to a point per game.

Junior Teams don’t mortgage the next 3 years of their future to acquire a star player unless they plan to use him and use him a lot. The cost is soooo high to get these guys in junior hockey.

Just ask Dale Hunter re Ryan Winterton trade last year. Sean McGurn definitely didn’t ‘block’ Winterton from being the #1.

before people get too excited.. it was 12G and 14A. Exactly a point per game. Hopefully this is the move he needed.

Your right my mistake it was a typo I knew he was a point a game. He had the tying goal against Victoria yesterday with under 2 minutes left.

I'd be happy if Danielson develops into a Kopitar. That'd be fine by me. Kopitar is an on-average 60-75 point getter, with one 90 point season. He's had a few down seasons as well. But overall, great career.
Kopitar if he was 25 today would be easily a PPG player, probably closer to 1.10 ppg . His peak came in a low scoring period. So if Danielson develops into a PPG center that has Selke caliber defense he'd be the best center Detroit has drafted since D and Z.

Alright. Now it's time to see a bit about this kid. Going to a top team, with skill to help him and a chance to play some meaningful playoff games. Not time for a final verdict but a good measuring stick to see where he may actually be amongst peers.

Think I may actually watch some WHL hockey this winter!

Yeah Portland scores a ton. No excuses now.

I have staved off the “-lund” for another day!

(cuz, you know, I’m always making trade/FA predictions )

In an effort to guess where Danielson might fit in with Portland, I looked over some recent lineups. The Winterhawks basically have 8 forwards who put up a noticeable number of points, and then there's a big drop-off. Those 8 kids are pretty cemented in their top-9, with the 9th spot a seeming rotation of other guys up to this point. Obviously Danielson will be the 9th fixture in that top-9.

Here's the most recent lineup I found, from Jan 5, with points-per-game in parentheses (Danielson is 1.00 ppg):

Davies (1.46) - Klassen (1.76) - Stefan (1.53)
Buttazzoni (0.81) - O'Brien (0.92) - Nguyen (0.94)
Miller (0.20) - Chyzowski (0.82) - Zakreski (0.78)

I imagine that top line is pretty solidified. From what I can tell, they've played together the entire season and it's obviously working. It seems the second line has been a unit most of the season as well, but here's where Danielson's status comes into play I think. I doubt he is deployed on the 3rd line. But I don't know enough about these players, specifically the ones on the 2nd line, to know who he would push out, or if he'd push O'Brien out of that center spot. But I'm guessing he pushes one out and plays with the other two. We should find out tomorrow.

Maybe bumping Chyzowski to 3LW and Danielson takes 3C?

or maybe O'Brien moves to 3C, Chyzowski moves to 3LW and Buttazzoni (ehehe, butt) goes to the 4th line while Danielson moves to 2C?

The 3 guys I'm interested in learning more about are Klassen, Stefan and Nguyen. All undrafted. Look productive. Stefan is Patrick Stefan's kid. Nguyen apparently has good wheels and is physical. Klassen reportly has a great shot and is strong on the backcheck.

Why?

to start probably is 3rd line with Chyzowski moving to W.
probably top pp as well with The top 3 and Cagnoni

Undrafted overagers. Potential free assets or late round steals if there's anything to their games.

Since Danielson is going to Portland, I'd theorize Detroit's scouts will be in attendance more. If these guys are any good and have pro potential then Detroit's scouts might take notice.

Two of them are 03s so I don’t think they could be drafted at this point, and even if they could I think there are better overager prospects out there.

Nice.

Any idea when Danielson is going to be in uniform for Portland? They're in town playing against Seattle tomorrow night.

Portland Winterhawks 2023 - 24 Regular Season Schedule

I've got the games for February 2nd, 16th and 18th on my calendar. I'm going to try and get down to Portland for a game in mid March as well.

Shit's more complicated for kids in juniors because of billet and what not, but Jugnauth played 4 days after quitting college. They're playing at home this weekend, but then on the road for 2 weeks. You figure they'll try to get him into the home games if logistics allow that to happen.

He isn't big but should be worth a flyer in the 4th or later. Looks like he's got great wheels and decent enough hands.

Off topic as usual, lol, but I bet this kid goes 3rd round. He's gained a few pounds, listed at 180. Teams are gonna like that he's adding some muscle, and he's the type of player that GMs love to take a chance on.

It's only slightly off topic. There's a good chance that Nate will be playing on a line with any of those guys. And they're likely better than any of the other forwards on Brandon.
