Secretly this was kinda what I was hoping for before the game. Obviously you can't play for an OT loss but the point to clinch the group and then lose so that NA might move on was good enough for me.

Did we deserve the point? I'd argue OT win for NA was just about right taking the whole game into account.

NA was clearly better, but it doesnt matter. Sweden is through thats what matter. King Henrik look sharp.

I get that a bunch of HFB posters (me included) didn't know all the possibilities to advance when the game was tied late in the 3rd, but if the NA staff didn't know and/or didn't tell their team, that's inexcusable.

Yeah that's actually hard to believe. I can't understand that one.

If they won in regulation they woulda been in on goal differential, no matter what happened in Russia vs Finland game cause they woulda already had 3 way tie breaker over Sweden on goal differential...

It's up to the braintrust on the bench or somebody in management to figure this stuff in advance...BUT its clear NOBODY UNDERSTOOD

Drop the ball McLellan et al!

lol, you're right....they didn't try and go for the win in regulation :shakehead

MacKinnon didn't know he needed a regulation win, but what would the difference really be? Either way it would have been better for them to win in regulation since they have the tie breaker with Sweden but not Russia, and they still had to play careful or else risk losing in regulation and getting eliminated immediately. NA was still extremely aggressive in the third period, and Lundqvist was brilliant. Sweden were holding back and playing super careful.

NA certainly played less aggressive in the third than in previous periods, they didnt have that many chances in the last period. For once in this game, I was not nervous at all in the third once Sweden tied it.

If the coach of the team didn't even know that then it's hard to take this tournament seriously at all

Exactly you just proved my point

Mackinnon was Karlsson's man

Sedin had Gaudreau covered in a defensive position along the boards

lol this is 3v3 hockey. This happens. Karlsson did the right thing jumping on that play. And it didnt even matter because they had already won the group so ofc he would jump on the play

Sucks that the best team in this group might not advance because of bad luck/goaltending.

Even if the kids don't advance it's been a treat to watch them. Every player on this team has had dynamic moments and they have all played very well to great most of the tournament. I knew the forwards would be stellar but the group of kids on the backend blew me away. Every single one of those kids on the back end will mature into top flight corner stone defenders for their clubs. Glad I watched these games.
