Yeah but it's HF, every chance you get, you get on Karlsson. Had Sedin clear the puck because he was 1st on it but lost his race for whatever reason, Karlsson is loose on a 2 on 1 and probably scores, would someone say "Karlsson was MacKinnon's men" of course not. Typical HF Boards.

2 assists, +1, Sedin loses puck battle along the boards right to a guy who passes it back to a guy on the backcheck. Every hockey player I know would've jumped in the play seeing Sedin first on the puck there.

I went back and rewatched the play, I think you're right. More Sedin's screw up than Karlsson. Karlsson was the best player for either team tonight imo, Sedin's cost their team the game, embarrassing considering they're wearing the letters.

Kinda ridiculous that team NA beats Sweden and Finland and only lost by 1 against Russia yet still won't advance if Russia wins.
I don't like this format.

And Sweden beat Russia and Finland but would have been in the same seat as NA had they lost in regulation.

stupid of the ref maybe. McDavid got a penalty for walking around Stralman, and Stralman got nothing for the tackle.
That's because McDavid's holding of the stick was the reason Strålman even had to make that tackle. That's pretty basic and I don't see how that can be questionable. Very solid by the refs to spot the infraction, but apparently it's weak by the refs to spot it?

the NA coaches were smart, tell the young kids, hey if you win this game your in...so they go out there and go as hard as they can for the win...because they cant do anything about tmr's game, so just worry about yours

Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. If NA gave up a goal while trying for the win regulation, people are on here saying they should have just played for OT and wait to see what happens tomorrow. I'm not making excuses for no one on the team allegedly knowing the tie-breaker though.

You are correct to some degree I think.

I think if MacKinnon hadnt admitted that they thought they were in with an OT win, people wouldnt of made such a big deal about it. I think his comments just amplified it. There would of been controversy/discussion but now its ten fold.

I have to disagree. Sweden was just playing shutdown hockey so that limited NA a bit, and before being tied, the game was more open because of course Sweden had to push for the equalizer. I can't recall a sequence where NA ate up the clock or didn't try for offense.

At any rate, NA still could not allow themselves to lose in regulation so it's not like they could have be extremely aggressive anyway.

Aggression / attacking hockey has been their forte...they obviously were under the delusion that playing it safe and securing at least a pt by taking it to OT was a sound strategy...

It was clear they had no thoughts about pulling Gibson and Gibson wasn't looking to the bench either...they obviously figured that an OT win was just as good as a regulation win...

Flippen get on the horn to tourney organizers if need be...BUT don't flippen guess how things work...

Instead, Sweden went 2-1 and they're advancing. While (potentially) another 2-1 team won't be.

I am very positively surprised about Karlsson. He has done some screw ups inbetween the brilliant plays, but he really takes charge both on and off the ice. Very active at the benches when the team is down, and then goes out there and forces things to happen. We are very lucky to have him fresh and (hopefully) healthy for years to come, he really should only get better and better.

I'm very positive, Matthews was amazing tonight, McDavid and Johhny G were awesome too. Rielly was of course phenomenal. Karlsson played well too. Hank of course was great.

Fair enough, sorry I must have just seen a a few of your negative posts in a row and misconstrued things: apologies, carry on! :handclap:

- Karlsson had his best game of the tournament IMO.
- For all the trash he gets I think some Swedish dmens got beat way more often than him in this tournament. I'm disappointed by some of them and their play, expect more.
- Matthews is a great player
- Johnny hockey will be a bargain even at 8M$, what a talent.
- The Sedins, admire them, but sometimes they look for each other too much

If you guys don't like the format, how would you change it? Add more games?

Problem with that is hockey season is starting soon. Players are already going to miss training camps.

pulling the goalie is a low percentage play, and if the NA team lost in regulation then they'd be out of the tournament right now.

Lundqvist was brilliant in the third, and OT, and to me that's the story of how Sweden got through, not what team NA did or didn't do

Swedes actually got a pt for taking it to OT, so they finished with 5 pts to top the group...BUT T NA pressures them in the third , knowing they need to win in regulation, and if they do...

Swedes finish behind NA in tie breaker and have to hope for a fortuitous result 2morrow

Yeah you're right about Karlsson. I watch a lot of hockey in my spare time and watch a lot of Karlsson. I hate to admit it, but Karlsson is easily the best dman in the league, no other dman can do what he does.

Disregarding the mess that the Rangers are, at least, the talk that Lundqvist is done can be put to the back burner...for now

Looked like T NA were playing to protect a one goal lead right from the getgo...which again probably comes down to what their coaches were saying to them in btwn periods...

They started on the pp and really they didn't look like they understood that this was a BIG chance to make it highly probable that they punched their ticket to the semis...

Again they never understood that they ( realistically ) needed to win in regulation...and that nursing a one goal lead was no good cause if it went to OT they're basically toast

I figured that out Yesterday...what's the excuse for their cough, cough braintrust not knowing this stuff?

Shameful if u ask me...

That is Dave Tippet's favorite strategy. Probably the only sign that he was a coach.

More games would make the standings more fair. More games would also make the games less important. As you said, seasons about to start. I dont think theres really any way to make it better realistically. Think people just like to naturally discuss (and complain sometimes about) things.
