It does, if they win in regulation. They pass Sweden.
And how are Russia gonna get 3 points from one game? Kuzy magic?
It does, if they win in regulation. They pass Sweden.
So let's see if this is correct now, if NA had pulled their goalie at the end, they could have either:
#1: Guaranteed advancing to semis, now they rely on Finland(nothing to fight for) to win vs Russia.
#2: failing to score but no empty net goal scored against -> same as now
#3: lost by 1 goal, ending up being at 2 points. In this case, the goal differential is such that they would advance if Russia loses vs Finland in regulation.
Hence, I guess the only way this would backfire is if Finland defeated Russia during OT. So shouldn't they have done it, then? Guarantee is a guarantee. It's curious if the coaching staff didn't know this.

It was obvious from the complete lack of urgency in the last two and half minutes that the players had no idea that they needed to win in regulation.
Either the coaches are morons or they were not aware of the tie-breaking procedure(still morons).
It would have been a 2 on 0
No reason for Karlsson to jump up
Gostisbehere leading all dmen in the tournament with 4 points in 3 games.
The Sedins and Karlsson cost Sweden the game, terrible effort.
MacKinnon didn't know he needed a regulation win, but what would the difference really be? Either way it would have been better for them to win in regulation since they have the tie breaker with Sweden but not Russia, and they still had to play careful or else risk losing in regulation and getting eliminated immediately.
What? They couldn't guarantee a spot. OT or Regulation win made no difference. What are you talking about?
He has to be up there among the scoring leaders overall
Are you kidding? Söderberg's penalty was a joke. A two minute penalty for going to the crease isn't a penalty. It wasn't one-sided.I don't think the refs could have done more to help out Sweden.
I suppose winning in OT at the very least means Russia has to win in regulation, overtime, or a shootout to advance rather than just making it to the end of regulation and get one point.
If they won in regulation they woulda been in on goal differential, no matter what happened in Russia vs Finland game cause they woulda already had 3 way tie breaker over Sweden on goal differential...
It's up to the braintrust on the bench or somebody in management to figure this stuff in advance...BUT its clear NOBODY UNDERSTOOD
Drop the ball McLellan et al!
he is the outlet pass, to the sedin who had the edge on the footrace to the puck on the side boards. have to rewatch it but there was McK still in the zone and jonny chasing the Sedin. where was the other guy?
