Congrats Sweden. We can't win games if we don't score goals.

Laine had a bad game IMO. I'm not talking about his two missed chances in the end, I mean he looked a bit soft in board battles etc. But the sad thing is that we had to use him. There are very few players in our team who are capable of scoring no matter what kind of opportunity they get. Laine, Granlund and Barkov are pretty much the only ones I can think of to be an actual scoring threat.

I won't cry myself to sleep though. Our young guns will learn and get better.

God I'm pissed off at Koivu. If he could score at all he'd be a great player. Just really rubs me the wrong way to see him flub grade A chances like there's no tomorrow. And he always does this, no matter if it's the Wild or Team Finland. Arggggggggggh.

At least Granlund was buzzing the whole game. He really is a big game player, you know you will get the best out of him in the do-or-die situations. Laine wasn't yet ready for this level, you could see it in the end, whiffing and fanning on everything. He will be a great sniper in a couple of years, but he wasn't up to par yet. Which pretty much left us without any legit goal scorers. Sigh.

Meanwhile, in Edmonton:

Very true LaGu. Swedish D took care of all rebounds basically, save for a few shots. That's what a goalie needs to have a stellar game, he needs some help from the other players for sure.

It's crazy that you can win 2 games out of 3 and still be out ... This doesn't fell like the optimal format ...

If the first game against Russia was a 4/5, this was a 2.5/5.

Barely.

If we go out with this attitude against U-23, they will trash us WAY worse than they did the Finns.

By the way. This was the best I've seen Granlund since he was playing against juniors in the WJC.

Hopefully he can translate this to the NHL.

Risto also looked really good.

Nice that Lundy came through tonight, had some serious pressure on him.

Once again the Canucks line comes through, if sweden wants any chance of winning this thing, they absolutely need other lines to step up.

NA needs to take Sweden, because we lose a tie to them by the game-between?

No.. If we win Rus, and Swe wins NA23. Then we all three have 3 points, then they count goals first, if im not wrong..

Good hard fought game. Like it always is against the Finns. Good luck in the future, Suomi

Truth is that those generations were truly terrible and the junior production has been much better after the reform, which isn't a coincidence.

Read the Jatkoaika thread, there are really those commenting who know. Sihvonens crusade was just a selfserving and cynical effort to sell newspapers and get clicks.

What was wrong was concentrating too much on disciplined team play to the point of actually disfavouring big players if they were temporarily too clumsy.

What has changed is now more focus on individual skill and motivation.

Changed some of your scores, bolded I raised, underlined i lowered.

It wasnt a horrible effort by the Swedes and they created just as many good chances as Finland did. Solid defensive play kept lots of the shot from the outside and when there was a great chance Lundqvist came in like a boss. Honestly I wasnt that nervous.

Forsberg is strong as an ox, can really hold on to the puck but seems a bit snakebitten and isnt getting prime chances but creates chances still. I really like his effort. Backlund had 3 prime chances but it shows he isnt a natural scorer. I bet anyone else on the team would have buried at least one of those (well maybe not Hagelin). Sedins are still top players I really like their game.

Agree on Forsberg IMO they need to move Hörqvist of that line, not that he's bad it's just, Forsberg and Bäckström need someone who doesn't go to the front of the net so often

Why are you comparing pulju scoring against 18 year olds, 70% of which will never play in the nhl ever to laine playing against arguably the best defensive corps in hockey?

I don't know... how difficult is it to have 0 points in 2 games? Pretty sure Pulju could have done that. Maybe I'm wrong though, maybe Pulju would get -3 points in 2 games :sarcasm:.

I can't remember the last time Swedes won with such a bad game, even their defense wasn't that great and Lundqvist was a bit uncertain in the beginning but improved as the game went on. Would have been fun to see the game get tied like in the end of 2nd period and 3rd would have been a totally different game.

I guess the Finns are out so go team Europe!

No kidding. It's ridiculous actually. Then add that some teams play back to backs and some don't. Why even have back to backs? Was it that difficult to add that extra day?

Finnish players showed some professional pride after that historically brutal showing against team-NA and played heck of a game. Just couldn't finish well enough. Also can't wait the day Lundqvist is retiring. The guy is killing Finland every time in best-on-best tournament.

Don't they break the three-way first with the goal difference (assuming all three have same amount of wins), and then the one of the two on top who won their game between wins the tie?

0 goals against and they get the worse grades on here, and add a Lundqvist who was shaky half of the game. I think they did a great (but un-sexy) job tonight.

When a european team is knocked out like Finland all those players should join Team Europe

Sihvonen is a reporter, so he needs those clicks :sarcasm:
Weren't the idea in "kaikki pelaa" to focus on team play, instead of individual skill?

Laine 44.00% Corsi%

Barkov 42.86% Corsi%

Aho 37.93& Corsi%

That's kind of an issue. Why is Aho 5 Corsi% below his line mates? He made constant bad decisions. Interesting that Laine's highest despite constantly losing the puck... But as mentioned, he did touch it often.

For the other lines, Komarov, Jokinen and Filppula had very good corsi. As for the first line:

Joonas Donskoi 47.62
Mikko Koivu 38.71%
Mikael Granlund 45.16%

Here Koivu's puzzling...

That's why we need to win Rus with over 3 goals..
