The best our Finnish friends can do now is save themselves from injuries and quietly lose to Russia, pretty please? :naughty:

Russia really needed to win the group and have Sweden be second.

If Russia wins it'll probably be Russia-Canada in the semis.

Sweden's the only team that has a shot against Canada in a one knockout game.

That was intense and nervevrecking, wish to have seen Sweden play more in the offensive zone. Our best moments was towards the end of the 2nd.

Every team plays back-to-backs. But only Sweden and Canada play their back-to-back against teams that have a full rest.

Actually, neither USA, Europe, Czech republic or Finland play any b2b (that's half the teams), which is weird and sucks for those that will.

Next tournament they should skip group play alltogether , seed the teams based on salary caps, then play quarterfinals, best of three semis and then best of three final ...

It feels idiotic that if Sweden lose to N/A , we can not makes semis just because Finland has exactly nothing to play for and can lose by 5-0 or whatever ... and then we are out just because of that ...
It would be nice if this happened I must say. :)

Don't worry Finland will certainly not do that.

I don't think the Finns have to be too hard on themselves. Yes they are probably 2-3 years away from showing better.

Sweden is a legitimate team to win it all this tournament. They held Russia to 1 late goal in the opener with back up Goalie Markstrom in net not King Henrik. They are not an easy team to score on.

So Finnish fans do not need to feel too bad. Their time will come.

As for Sweden, they are always contenders in these type of tournaments. Good Defensive teams are always dangerous.

Finland can still ruin Russia's tournament. In fact it wouldn't surprise me at all if they went out and did just that. Stinks not to advance, but I bet the guys in that locker room care about beating Russia.

As we know Finland picks itself up better than any other nation in Bronze games. I expect they will be ready to go against Russia.

Really didn't deserve the result they got today, really feel they deserved at least a point and should have come out of this not technically eliminated. Hard to see them reversing that goal differential for those that are saying they aren't technically eliminated.

Sweden can never beat USA or Canada.

Russia is the only one with a slim chance, if the PP works and Bob plays the God like mode, the Canadians will get rattled and the Russian skill will take over.

Sweden is easily better then USA. Sweden is also better than Russia.

You haven't won a single game, why do you think you should be in the semis?
This group will be tough whoever wins tomorrows games, but a team that loses twice doesnt deserve the semis. No knock on Finland itself, the team simply weren't up for it this year (as predicted).

:deadhorse

But that's what technically eliminated means.

You mean practically eliminated.

Suspension on Komarov incoming question is will it continue in the NHL

You shouldn't lose to NA then. And you could have devastated us to stack up your goal difference, like the other guys in your scenario. It wouldn't exactly be wrong if the protecting one goal lead approach would come back to bite in a three-way tie scenario.

Sweden has no answer for the North American style and pressure.

You will see that vs NA team.

The young NA team need to find a way to stop the sedins, so many young kids on that team, if they chase, the sedins will put up 3 points each.

I expect a high scoring game 4-3 sweden imo

Right you are. I only looked up who played back-to-backs against rested opposition, and assumed everyone else played some back-to-backs, but with equal circumstances.

Wouldn't have been such a big deal if some teams didn't have back-to-backs as long as they never faced teams that played their second game in two nights. Now that Sweden and Canada have to face rested opposition on their b2b's, that's a little bs.

The best defense in the world always has a sort of answer. This isn't some swedish league players, they are every single one of them some of the best of the NHL.
Not saying it will be a win, Canada should really crush us. But it is far fetched saying there isnt a single chance in the strange game of hockey.

Sorry but I don't think Russia will win anything. They can be easily outmaneuvred by teams with worse rosters.
Finland often do just that.

And Sweden is not in any way worse than Russia in a best-on-best roster, better actually (based on salary caps in the NHL), plus have a coaching that made Russia create almost nothing until the last 30 seconds ...

Btw Lepisto did not receive penalty on the hit. Him and Landeskog got the penalties roughing it up after the hit.

Get over yourself, he has a point. And Pulju would just get demolished in a tournament like this, there's a reason why he couldn't even make this weak Finnish team.

Not defending the OP you're responding to, but Kessel didn't make team USA and he's arguably a top 5 American winger, that means nothing. Pulju was also injured which is a large part of the reason why he didn't make it.

A NA team that is fully rested and Sweden play back to back, not exactly fair in such a tight tournament. It will be a really tough game for sure, especially when NA plays with such speed.

As for USA, the US defensemen are really bad at moving the puck, they're bad when pressured. I don't see what is so great about that team. It's created to beat Canada but got schooled against Europe.

That's a worse call, imo. The hit wasn't malicious, but I can understand calling 2 minutes when you connect with the head to that extent (although I would've been fine with no call). 2 minutes for getting jumped is one of my pet peeves. Komarov should've had more than 2, though, so I guess in a way it (almost) evens out.
