Yes we should.. But "kaikki pelaa" system ruined those generations..

The good thing is that we should have a good group in 1-2 years already but this year is pretty much the worst one possible.

Congrats Sweden.

Our inability to score bit us once again. It feels like it could have gone either way. All respect to Hank of course.

Now go beat Team NA for Euro representation in the next stage.

Horrible game by Sweden, we are really lucky to get this win.

Changed some of your scores, bolded I raised, underlined i lowered.

It wasnt a horrible effort by the Swedes and they created just as many good chances as Finland did. Solid defensive play kept lots of the shot from the outside and when there was a great chance Lundqvist came in like a boss. Honestly I wasnt that nervous.

Forsberg is strong as an ox, can really hold on to the puck but seems a bit snakebitten and isnt getting prime chances but creates chances still. I really like his effort. Backlund had 3 prime chances but it shows he isnt a natural scorer. I bet anyone else on the team would have buried at least one of those (well maybe not Hagelin). Sedins are still top players I really like their game.

Laine should be able to one time those passes and passes even harder than that.

It's happened several times now that he's whiffed completely on a hard pass... That shouldn't happen. Hopefully he gets used to it.

It's him changing the stick. The stick blade is also further back now that he has more power in his shot. It will self correct within ten games or so.

He should have been able to one time it anyway. Even if the pass came a bit too far behind him.

I don't blame him at all - these are really difficult situations and these things do happen. He has a great future, only 18, not one NHL game played and was this his 5th on the small ice?
Nerves also, he looked pretty nervous and trying to do too much out there play hero ball. One of the downsides to hype is that in his mind I think he believes he has to be the star or the savior of the moment.

Smaller surface, less space and faster game against better competition than he's ever faced. People expect a bit much from the kids sometime. Matthews look good but then again his style translates easier, and he plays on a very well-functioning line.

Yup, and as much as it pains me to say it as a jets fan, even if they switched situations matthews would probably still fare better until Laine gets accustomed to the smaller ice surface. Laine will be playing with better and more experienced players with the jets (if he plays top 6) so hopefully that helps him out a lot, but I think this was a good learning experience for him. Everything literally gets easier from here on out for everyone once the tournament ends.

we need to win Rus with over 5 goals.. To advance from 3 point tie

NA needs to take Sweden, because we lose a tie to them by the game-between?

no, wait, they're well past in points now.

Atleast Finland looked somewhat equal to their opponent. That first game was brutal.

They always show up against Sweden. Good game.

For everyone calling this a booring crappy game, get real. Where have you been the last 20 years, FIN-SWE is like this and always tense. Only on occasion one team really gets going. I understand that if you are the 'whoever hockey fan' with no affiliation then you would call this a snooze-fest, like I normally call the occasional Minnesota-Carolina game I watch, but if you are in 'kind-of' elimination game and one of those is your team then things change.

It seems that more and more people just want to watch WJC. The difference is that when a team like Sweden plays in a tournament they obviously rely on their D, as almost any NHL team would, especially when their offense is not clicking or is inadequate. Give Sweden a 3-0 lead and see how much the D will start joining the rush. Anyway, this is not trap hockey, this is responsible D hockey and Sweden has really good D. That is also why Lundqvist, now man of the match, got away with all those rebounds... The D bailed him out there because they did let anyone get at the rebounds.

It's him changing the stick. The stick blade is also further back now that he has more power in his shot. It will self correct within ten games or so.

He should have been able to one time it anyway. Even if the pass came a bit too far behind him.

Yeah, it really feels like a lot of his messups, failed shots and such could have been due to him changing his stick. His stickhandling has also seemed slow in comparison to what I'm used to and I'm used to seeing him be able to one time properly at significantly worse passes, too far ahead or behind.

It's possible that he just needs some more time to get used to it but I can't help but feel that this probably wasn't the best situation for him to begin testing a new stick.

Feel bad for team Soumi. They deserved more.

Sweden did what they needed and not an inch more. Let's hope this was their off game.

I don't know what it is with Finland - Sweden games. On paper they should be easy but the finns always seem to play at their absolute top level whilst the swedes makes a half assed effort.

I'll be rooting for Finland on thursday.
