The one play that annoyed me was when Eichel got rocked. He gets up and doesn't even hit anybody. Just goes back in the play all casually lol. It's like he doesn't have that next gear and hustle.

He made some really good plays after getting hit. It's hockey and he realizes sometimes you are going to get lit up. What a stupid complaint.

Gudreau should have had more ice time, but he was forcing plays and puck hogging a lot most of the game. Losing the puck, etc. He wasn't great tonight. Hopefully just one of those random bad nights.

He should be on the top PP though regardless.

how gaudreau does not play more is absolute insanity....he is your first or 2nd best offensive forward, get him on the ****ing ice, especially for a 5 on 3...how does nobody think to put him out for? moronic

He was a turnover/puck hogging/stand at the opposing blueline and wait for a pass machine all night. That's why he didn't play as much.

Yeah I was surprised he got him and continued to play like nothing happened. Hopefully he's not concussed like Ekblad is. That was a vicious hit.

Lol what game were you watching? The third was an absolute onslaught by NA because they shortened the bench. There was only 2 lines making anything happen for the majority of the game and they got most of the ice time in the third, as they should have. If Bob doesn't have the game of his life the comeback is completed.

The guy is talking about some McLennan .. not McLellan

See...you get it. The problem with the #1 PP is that Gaudreau is not on it. If he was on the left wall...like Giroux is, he would use Ghost properly. We saw that when JG made like 5/6 passes to Rielly, opening up the ice and leading to a goal.

The #1 unit wants to force things down low...leading to turnovers.

The real issue was they way they set up the PP1.

They would have Scheif in between the point defender and two of the down low defenders, leaving Ghost pretty much at the point by himself, with two board players and one infront of the net. Not much chance for a good one timer.

Once they switched off that mid third period (for whatever reason) and had Scheif playing the point so there were two point guys who could slide depending on the side of the ice the puck was on, and two board players Scheif was feeding Ghost and vice versa.

It was so obvious because as a Jets fan you watch Scheif and he just sits in between three Russians to ensure the point defender couldn't press the blue line and had to stay back. Scheif was basically a decoy until midway through the third.

Scheif and Ghost had some nice plays between them after they switched it up. I would still have Gaudreau on one of the walls though, he's absolute magic in passing and has ridiculous hand eye coordination.

Score effects doesn't mean they weren't outplayed or take penalties. So, automatically if you're winning you should get outshot 2:1 and cling on for the win?

NA outplayed them, but it's pretty common for a team that gets behind 4-1 to outshoot. The 5-3 PP was the result of a close delay of game clear, not run of play.

All I know the North America will destroy Sweden.

The Swedes can never handle the pressure and skill of the NA teams.

A three way tie between Russia, Sweden and NA is very possible. Will suck to be eliminated with two wins

Right now Sweden is on the tough side of the goal differential if there's a 3 way 2-1 tie. Russia is even with a win and a loss so to finish 2-1 they add a win, NA is +2 with a win to add, Sweden is +1 with a win and a loss to add to finish 2-1, they'd have to beat Finland by 3 to tie NA if they lose to NA by 1.

Of course all this goes out the window is Russia or Sweden loses to Finland or Sweden beats NA, or if there's any OT games. The 3 way 1-2 tie is also still possible.

I'm just glad we didn't give up an empty netter. That would have been a ****** way to lose a goal differential tiebreaker should it come to that.

If you only show up for half the game like that again you will be dismantled severely by both Canada or Sweden!

Russia showed up for two minutes and nearly beat Sweden. Imagine what would happen if they showed up for half a game :sarcasm:

McDavid could actually be one of the best players in the world if he learned how to score goals.

Could be lol? He already is. Just wait until you see him against NHL teams this year. McDavid doesn't get much benefit out of playing with other stars, all he really needs are good complimentary players who can play a heavy game and get their stick on the ice while driving to the net. His shot is still a work in progress, but it will only continue to improve as he gets stronger, and he will because he has the body of a child still. It already has visibly more velocity than it did last year.

I'm trying not to be biased here but he wasn't really making poor decisions. He can't take a one-timer off of bad passes coming from pressure and he was rarely passed to at all when he was playing the left point. The cycle game on PP1 needs some serious work and Gaudreau probably needs to be slotted in on the left wall.
That probably has a lot to do with it. Like Tripod said when Gaudreau was on the left wall he was teeing up Rielly perfectly before the goal, but Mo is more poised as a QB rather than a shooter.

To be fair, they had 5 power plays in the 3rd.

NA shortened bench AND Russia stupidly going into a defensive shell was the reason for the 3rd period onslaught.

I mean, you gotta score with a 5-on-3. The first line should have gone off way sooner too.

I still don't know why the timeout wasn't called there to draw a better play. That was the worst 5 on 3 I've ever seen. Everyone just kept shooting from bad angles. McDavid standing there on the left side barely got the puck, Matthews was down low, barely touched the puck.

The second unit should have played that PP. They were the ones who got the PP goal earlier after some great plays by Gaudreau/Rielly/Parayko with RNH and MacK upfront.

MacKinnon was just fantastic in this game. I thought he was the best player for NA.

What? I liked Eichel. He could have finished on some plays but I had zero complaints from his game. Only mistake I can think of was the 2 on 1 that he wasn't quick on but he had a long shift so it's understandable. He got hit, got up and made some plays.

It's not mistakes people are criticizing about Eichel, it's the lack of creativity. Too stationary and took too long to make decisions. That works in the NHL when it's an 82 game grind and the intensity isn't as high and you can just delay as long as you want until a play opens up, but not so much here. That said, he wasn't bad, I just don't think his game is suited to this level yet. Playing with a Chara sized stick doesn't help with quick puck movement.
