Oh well, perhaps that is the type win that Russia needed to get better. First game they played 3 good minute and lost, in this game they played already 12 good minutes and won. Perhaps they get better in the next game and play 25 good minutes. Also, I couldn't help but notice how much slower Malkin is compared to what he was in June. Clearly having a kid and a nice vacation with lots of food will slow you down.

The real issue was they way they set up the PP1.

They would have Scheif in between the point defender and two of the down low defenders, leaving Ghost pretty much at the point by himself, with two board players and one infront of the net. Not much chance for a good one timer.

Once they switched off that mid third period (for whatever reason) and had Scheif playing the point so there were two point guys who could slide depending on the side of the ice the puck was on, and two board players Scheif was feeding Ghost and vice versa.

It was so obvious because as a Jets fan you watch Scheif and he just sits in between three Russians to ensure the point defender couldn't press the blue line and had to stay back. Scheif was basically a decoy until midway through the third.

Scheif and Ghost had some nice plays between them after they switched it up. I would still have Gaudreau on one of the walls though, he's absolute magic in passing and has ridiculous hand eye coordination.

That's a perfect summary. :handclap:

Hmmmm... Rielly was a force offensively, but check out a couple of the goals against to get a more balanced assessment of performance. They did go down 4-1, which is why they lost.

Oooohhhh wow 1 goal against big whoop. Every superstar defenseman has 100s of goals against some quite embarrasing.

Try looking at the big picture. (Obviously big picture is a W but you cant win everything).

Sometimes when you hurt it, it goes numb for a bit...adrenalin's pumping and ur thinkin/hoping u can still play...

He tried and failed...BUT even a veteran might do that in the heat of the moment in a big game

All I know the North America will destroy Sweden.

The Swedes can never handle the pressure and skill of the NA teams.

A three way tie between Russia, Sweden and NA is very possible. Will suck to be eliminated with two wins

so your assuming then both Russia and Sweden both beat finland. While not for certain. it will come down to most likely who beats finland by more then. Russia is 0, and Sweden assuming they lose to NA by 1 goal will be a 0. Whoever beats Finland by more will make it in. NA beat them by 3 so it would seem pretty safe to get through assuming they beat sweden

True, that first PP unit stayed on too long

If I'm Gaudreau I'd be really frustrated. Coach needs to set an example and change it up or bench them for being greedy

how gaudreau does not play more is absolute insanity....he is your first or 2nd best offensive forward, get him on the ****ing ice, especially for a 5 on 3...how does nobody think to put him out for? moronic

No kidding. He's been their best forward AINEC.

The one where he literally passes to himself from one end of the net through to the high circle on the other side? lol.. the kid was just flying out there and you could tell he just wanted to score so badly there.

Yea lmao, the puck kept on coming to him. Looked like he was playing catch with himself

Rielly's been great but moving him up to PP1 isn't going to fix the real problem which is the poor board play and decision-making down low. It's not a Ghost problem at all.

McDavid's creativity on the PP has been surprisingly poor and overly passive. He doesn't seem to be attacking the net the way he did last year. I'd put Parayko on that unit in Scheifele's place and just have them tee up non stop bombs from the point. And I'd play the Gaudreau unit more.

McDavid, Matthews, and Eichel also all want the puck. They could use someone a bit more grindy down low rather than trying to force Matthews into that role.

Team NA is getting better every game. They had a meltdown in goal tonight, but I wouldn't bet against them right now. Bobrovsky was clutch, huge 3rd period from the Vezina winner to lock down the game for Russia.

It's still early in his career I know...
But maybe the Eichel just isn't ready for the NHL yet? With a certain fanbase hounding him, the pressure of being considered the next American superstar, **** I wouldn't be able to handle that ****.
Maybe having him in the minors for another year or two to develop a bit wouldn't have been a bad idea. The kid is only 19. At 19 I was complete ******** who had no idea what I wanted to do.
Not much has changed... but I'd like to think I have a bit of a better head on my shoulders now. I actually feel really bad for Eichel, and I hope Meclennan doesnt ruin him.

yeah, I think they will be in tough. That's a good thing in my opinion. The semi finals will be better with Sweden, Russia or Finland imo.

Now that made me laugh. The semi finals would be way more exciting and better with team North America and their brand of hockey.
