McDavid could actually be one of the best players in the world if he learned how to score goals.

Usage was OK, Gaudreau needs to move up to the 1st unit PP, but they did do it for the end.

I guess maybe move Eichel up with McDavid and Matthews? I'd keep MacK with RNH and Gaudreau.

Ghost totally deserves first PP, but instead of having him play the primary passer, he needs to the primary shooter. Guy's got a cannon for a shot. Rielly's fine playing 2 PP, he has enough duties as is.

See...you get it. The problem with the #1 PP is that Gaudreau is not on it. If he was on the left wall...like Giroux is, he would use Ghost properly. We saw that when JG made like 5/6 passes to Rielly, opening up the ice and leading to a goal.

The #1 unit wants to force things down low...leading to turnovers.

Poor sportsmanship from Gudreau leaving the ice like that. You aren't bigger than the team buddy. He didn't even have a good game at all.

Eh, he probably needed to cool off and get out of there asap. He obviously wanted to win badly. Some people deal with stress differently.

The reason McLellan keeps Matthews on all the time is because he's big, great puck handling, and is the screener. It sucks because it takes away his shot when he's forced infront of the net. Problem is, he's one of the biggest guys on Team NA and doesn't get pushed around in the crease, so McLellan keeps leaving him there.

Coaching is about having Plan A and Plan B. If you can't adjust, you're not a good coach.

My God , are we bad holding he lead ? This collapsible strategy giving up the zone entry and completely leaving the point players is extremely frustrating.

Malkin was terrible, he should not play any more in this tournament unless he starts taking it seriously.

Zaitsev and Emelin were very solid today.

Bob was god like

Anisimov made the dumbest play of the year.

The Anisimov play is just unacceptable. Time and space to make a play, any play. They can thank Bob, i'll give credit to Kulemin too. Thought it was nuts to put him on the 5 on 3 draw (and he lost it with ease) but he gave them a tight triangle, and a good stick. He's smart but surely they have a better option for the PP than him.

The shots were 46-25. Matt Murray injured his thumb and allowed 4 goals on 4 shots (after injuring it). I don't know how you can say Russia didn't get lucky. They were almost outshot 2:1.

If Murray injured his thumb why didn't he say so and go get himself pulled before letting in a single goal?

So Murray's selfishness just might have cost his team a spot in semis?

Idk aabout anybody else but oustide of Rielly, Paryako and Ghost the defense has blown. Ekblad going down will screw them.

As somekne else said Matthews lead forwards in ice time, Rielly lead dmen and Zaitsev lead Russians. Leafs wont be the worst atlantic team with all the talent joining the roster. It isnt even remotely close to last years team that got them 1st overall.

Incoming- Matthews, Nylander (full year), Zaitsev, JVR (full year). Potentially Marner and if Marner does make it, it will be because he will be making an impact. I also expect Soshnikov to be more skilled Komorav. Probably 35-40 ppint range next year.

Hmmmm... Rielly was a force offensively, but check out a couple of the goals against to get a more balanced assessment of performance. They did go down 4-1, which is why they lost.

how gaudreau does not play more is absolute insanity....he is your first or 2nd best offensive forward, get him on the ****ing ice, especially for a 5 on 3...how does nobody think to put him out for? moronic

I'd keep Ghost on the first unit PP, but he needs to start hitting the net a bit more. Almost had it there at the end though, damn post.

What a great game. A few things:

If it weren't for Bobrovsky, NA would have throttled Russia. Goaltending was clearly the difference, Murray had an off night, Bob was crazy good.

Rielly - Parayko is such a dominant pairing. Outside of one missed assignment Rielly was on fire especially in the end where he was almost the difference maker. This has to be the new top pair with Ekblad done for the tournament.

Eichel with another poor game. I felt like after the missed call on the hit from behind he had a fire lit under his belly but he woke up too late (and then Emelin put him back to sleep).

Ghost finally figured out his role, but too late in the game. The guy was passing up one-timers on the PP all game until the finally sequence where he hit a post and created a few big chances off rebounds. Was driving me nuts.

I'm trying not to be biased here but he wasn't really making poor decisions. He can't take a one-timer off of bad passes coming from pressure and he was rarely passed to at all when he was playing the left point. The cycle game on PP1 needs some serious work and Gaudreau probably needs to be slotted in on the left wall.

The McDavid-Matthews and MacKinnon-Gaudreau lines were basically the only two lines that played the second half of the game, but yeah Gaudreau should be bumped up to 1st unit PP.

Murray choked. Not trying to lay it squarely on him; but you can't give up 4 goals on 4 shots.

best players tonight: McDavid, Matthews, Mack, Rielly, Nuge.

Well again...sportsnet guys said looked like he hurt his thumb just prior...didn't seem very Murray-like after that

Probably the best game of the tournament so far.. too bad they couldn't tie it in the third. They had their chances. Russians really played well for half the game.

It's almost comical.

I can see how this coach didn't win a championship with Thornton, Marleau Vlasic etc all in their primes though

Yes, it appears so. The Sportsnet feed showed him showing the trainer his thumb after he hit it somewhere, or was slashed or something. Then, the next 4 shots went in.

As great as McDavid and Matthews are, they got too much ice time.

The RNH line was incredible, and there was no reason to bench Drouin unless he was hurt.
