What have I done...I am become death, the destroyer of threads.

Anywho: Of all the foul talk of ketchup on hotdogs and punching people in the snizz, perhaps the most depressing thing on this thread was someone saying that they hope some of Danielson's skill rubs off on Kasper.

Yikes. I had high hopes for Kasper. I've come to terms with the Danielson pick and I'm now OK with it, but: Is Danielson a better prospect than Kasper? Just better offensively maybe?
It was me and it wasn't Danielson, I was talking about Cleveland's puck skills being something for Kasper to aspire to.

There, don't you feel way better now?

Didn't see this posted, but here's a short write-up from Scott Wheeler in his Top 50 prospects article from last month.

So a hard working and physically gifted player who can do everything on the ice? Sign me up for that. I'm all about that.

Other Wings ranked include Simon Edvinsson at #11 and Axel Sandin Pellikka at #42.
Nate Danielson, Carter Mazur, and William Wallinder all received honorable mentions.
And he's a pest/opponents seem to get really worked up by him.

That list from Wheeler is shockingly bad. Whenever I think he is starting to get better he does something like this to reel my expectations WAY back.

Clarke, Jiricek and Nemec over Edvinsson is just a bad take. I’d argue either Ed or Hughes are the top U23 defenseman outside of the NHL.

Shane Wright at 14 is way too high for a guy that has vastly underperformed.

Smith over Cooley is also awful. What the fudge?

Perrault at 15 despite where he was just drafted?

And then the omission of Wallinder and Danielson.

Is there any prospecting ranking list that is worth caring about? It feels like an impossible task.

I think the writeup portions are fine and do reflect how things look presently for a lot of these kids. Like I think everything he said about Kasper rings true and that's why I posted it. Where Kasper ends up on some arbitrary list, I'm not too fussed about. I don't expect Wheeler to be a soothsayer.

It's important to remember that his job is to generate clicks, not generate accurate prospect rankings. I could see Nemec over Edvinsson, but Ed is at worst the 2nd best d prospect in the game. A lot of terrible rankings that are hard to get over. You'd think Danielson would sneak in, Wallinder probably isn't a top 50 guy at this point

There's an implication here of clickbait, behind a paywall, and I just don't think that's the case. I think he sincerely has some prospects he loves and is showing them that love - popular or not.

And there's nearly 19,000 words in that article. I find it a bit reductive when people only focus on the order he placed the prospects when the real meat and potatoes is in the summary for each player.

I'm not a fanatic about every prospect like some here, so I enjoy the annual recaps to keep me apprised of the top prospects from every NHL team as they arrive to the NHL.

Are we still getting wrapped around the axle about prospect rankings? Kasper will either hit or he won’t, and Wheeler’s rankings today won’t affect that.

Side note…. this is not meant to side track this thread (again), but this popped up in my scrolling of the grams today, and I thought, damn, that’s a couple recent pages of this thread encapsulated into 16 seconds….

Those write ups are actually a slightly updated version from draft write ups. And lists are basically a compilation of his draft lists. But generally I agree, Wheeler does usually a good job describing prospects, it is his rankings, which are rather predictable - your small players with questionable skating who demonstrate a lot of "skill" in junior hockey.

yeah just look how hard it is to make a ranked top 50 draft list

now take that and also factor in that these guys have wildly varying ages and levels of experience instead of at least all being roughly the same age like a draft list is

Like someone else said, the write ups are pretty accurate and I have no problem with those. The order of his rankings on the other hand, not so much. Granted it's pretty hard to make a prospect rankings and make everyone happy

Nemec, Jiricek, Clarke and Edvinsson are all right after eachother in the same tier. I actually think that's perfectly fair.

The most ridiculous part of that list is the "honourable mentions" list being like 80 players long lol.

When the two people writing them every year are Wheeler and Pronman? No.

I'm sorry that I haven't paid much attention, but how has Kasper been in some of the rookie stuff/development camps so far? Or is he still injured?

He was on the last dev camp. Year before he didn't join just because to avoid unneeded travelling overseas.

Really impressed me of his skating on the camp. It has some power stride nobody else didn't have there.

This is nice. Really nice to see, that he improved his game for more complete on other areas - a lot.

The competition was much higher at SHL 2nd season, but still.
