Him going much higher in a re-draft has more to do with the fact that he is 5'10 now (grew from his 5'8).
I think him going higher in a redraft has way more to do with the points he put up this season than the fact he grew one inch.

Heck, his height may not even be his biggest problem. He's 155 lbs and doesn't skate well. And plays defense. Yeah, he's a force in college, but his profile is pretty rough when you project it at the NHL level.

2 inches is a major difference for defensemen, but yeah I agree with you that I still have my reservations until he hit NHL ice.

While I agree everybody is different, Hutson can gain weight. Maybe not as quickly and pronounced like Bedard but EVERYONE can. It’s just about eating as many clean calories as possible, while staying consistent in the gym to get stronger and bigger.
That whole “I can’t gain weight” is false. Normally, people who say that aren’t eating enough and just aren’t pushing themselves hard enough in the weight room.

Someone like Hutson, who is small in stature. I would focus on building as much strength/ muscle In the off-season as possible. Maintain during the season and then get right back at it. I’m sure Montreal has a plan for him and I’d assume they want him at least at 170+.

That Bedard is 17 and nearly 190 and that Hutson is 19 and only 150 is quite telling on what their frames are capable of carrying.

Hutson could very well turn into a great pro, but as of right now the odds are stacked against him. He'd basically be blazing a trail as a U16 framed defenseman making it in the current NHL.

Logan Cooley is the only guy from last year's draft I'd trade one-for-one for Marco Kasper. I'm not saying Kasper is the second best prospect in the draft necessarily, but for me, Cooley is the only guy who has separated himself from the pack.
I thought Nemec was supposed to be ridiculous? Did he fall in re-draft rankings or something?

I'm fine talking about Hutson some more. I mean, I get wanting to keep threads on topic during the season, or during actionable events, but during dead times like this? Seriously, who cares? Heck, I want to talk about the indictment. I think - MOD

“Frames capable of carrying” is pseudoscience and not based in fact. there is not really such a thing as body types. anyone can get huge with tine in the gym and proper diet. full stop.

look I don't agree with norrisnick on like everything, but there are body types.....

endo/ecto/meso - morph are real things...
They really aren’t. Sure, some people can gain muscle easier and some are naturally a bit pudgier and store weight in undesirable locations. But if you eat at a caloric surplus and exercise you will gain muscle, and at first almost linearly. At the very least, body “types” have absolutely nothing to do with limiting the amount of muscle you can put on. With a proper diet and exercise regimen Hutson can easily get to the 190 Bedard is and his body type will have nothing to do with whether or not he does.

Again, I'm not arguing your theory on how to gain muscle. What I am questioning is you think there aren't body types but then you just wrote that "some people can gain muscle easier and some are naturally a bit pudgier", of which proves there are...body types.

Take out the caloric surplus/deficit etc. There are body types that gain/lose differently than others. Ectomorph, endomorph, mesomorph. Those are scientifically proven to exist and is in multiple scientific journals.

Danny DeKeyser was a good example of a guy that had a "body type" and had a hard time gaining weight.

Could of used 20lbs his whole career.

What even happened to this thread?

People are just throwing out nonsense that has been debunked for like 50-100 years, then when they get challenged they double down, then all hell breaks lose. quite simple

the worst thing about Yzerman being GM is just how dedicated people on here are to aping his fetish for "former NBA player that took up bodybuilding" body types

it feels like half the thread in any thread related to drafts or prospects or even just player acquisition in general nowadays is just people talking about size over and over

Not only are there body types, there's also all the other genetics at play. Genetics that affect how easy it is to add weight, how that weight is added, and, most importantly when you're a professional hockey player, how that weight affects your game. Some guys get big and then thrive, but some guys get big and then suck.

I don't know what it is around here with this effort to show that there's nothing stopping tiny guys from not being tiny and then easily becoming NHLers, but the reality is that guys wash out of pro hockey and fail to make the NHL due to their small size all the damn time. Something is stopping those guys from getting to the right size, and it's not that they are all lazy.

That was a thing long before Yzerman being GM. See Babcock's comments regarding Lashoff.

yeah it's not so much Yzerman himself that's annoying with that(he probably doesn't even value size an above average amount as far as forwards go so it's really only Defense where he even has a particularly strong preference there)

it's just that the fans buy into it like a hundred times more with him than they ever did with someone like Babcock
