I'm always curious what they are hiding under that hair. Very suspicious.

I think there may be some correlation between smooth skulls and smooth brains. A coworker of mine likes to say that god made some people's skulls perfect and the rest he gave hair. He's my age, bald and jealous of my flow.

If this guy ever makes it to the NHL, Gretzky's records are officially in jeopardy:

Just do a bit of reading man. Rats were used for an isogenic study group and to control diet, but it shows more causation than the prompting study done in humans (Maternal size in pregnancy and body composition in children). There’s more work done in humans that prompts similar conclusions (Body weight at developmental age in siblings born to mothers before and after surgically induced weight loss - PubMed), and recent molecular work that shows this too (Increasing breast milk betaine modulates Akkermansia abundance in mammalian neonates and improves long-term metabolic health) (Effects of Maternal Obesity on Fetal Programming: Molecular Approaches). Also because clinicians love NEJM, here’s a review (Effect of In Utero and Early-Life Conditions on Adult Health and Disease).

Now if we can get back to Kasper, who does everyone see as the ideal wingers for him (either in the pipeline or 2023 draft targets)?
Yes, I’m fully aware of this body of literature. I shall stop commenting on it to keep this on topic. Go Kasper!

to answe an earlier q:

I think Kasper will need high skill guys with a good motor. That’s why I really think a guy like Benson would work very well with Kaspers game; he can make plenty of space for Benson to play his game and can bury the chances he creates. Same with Perrault (high skill). A guy like wood I think isn’t the best match as he’s also shoot-first. Thoguh if we’re talking 9/17, Benson-Wood could be two very very good linemates for Kasper. Leonard-Perrault would be good too.

Funny how that happens when it's the self-proclaimed "smart people" talking.
You just nailed why I could not care less about prospect discussions. There are maybe a handful of people on this board that have even a cursory following of said prospects, so any of us armchair quarterbacks feigning certainty (let alone outrage) about who Detroit should or should not draft is borderline comical.

I trust the staff and front office based on their track record these last few years. I will definitely question a given skill set versus one I happen to value higher, but I'm not going to think a certain pick is automatically a success or disaster before the draft even happens. I learned my lesson with Rasmussen, and that was a pick I didn't like made by a staff I couldn't wait to see broomed out the door, let alone the current regime that has plenty of runway remaining.

So I was watching a lot of Kasper film today. Free time for once on a Saturday and this is what I am doing...

I know we have a complicated relationship with the player and some media treatment at his height probably will make some unhappy. But his game reminds me a ton of young Toews, heavy game with his feet always moving if his offense keeps coming. Really developed game down low for someone so young. I think he is a tick better skater, but that also kind of matches the generational difference and Toews would have the better rating hands wise. But there are chunks of the game I think you can see.

The things that seem to come up the most about him are his compete level and his motor. So at the very least he sounds like a skilled energy guy but also seems like he has the tool box for top line "potential". Really looking forward to see how this season of development goes for him. Where is he playing next season? GR?

With the current roster that's my hope. 1 full-ish season in Grand Rapids. 70 or so games and hopefully 50+ points, then a call up at the end of the season to Detroit for 8 or 9 games.

would really rather have him takeover veleno spot tbh

10-12 minutes a night as a grinder is not a good idea for him. I know we all want our top forward prospect on the roster but it does him far less good long term to play very few minutes than it does to play big minutes in a top line role in the AHL. I want to watch Kasper develop into a 60+ point 2-way monster, not a Veleno replacement on the 3rd/4th line. That's how Sam Bennett's development path got f***ed up and why it took so long for Coutourier to turn into a top 6 player.

Be patient with the development plan. If Kasper can win a middle 6 spot and push one of Compher or Copp to wing I wouldn't be too surprised. But I don't think that is the plan for the early part of the season, and I don't think it should be part of the plan right now, either.

I think his clear best chance is the opposite of this. He'll get pushed to wing for a season and play with one of Compher or Copp because theyre both so reliable defensively. That will allow Kasper to not just play defesnively/like a grinder.

But I wouldnt be complaining at all about the Courturier development path and its a pretty bad example. By 24, he was on pace for over 50 points and despite missing 19 games he finished top 8 for the selke. By 25, he was a 30+ goal, 75+ point guy.

If youre going to use that as an example of what you dont want Kasper to do(or as a bad development example), your expectations need to be seriously readjusted

5 full NHL seasons to hit a 50 point pace because the player was rushed IS a bad development path for a top 10 pick. He wasn’t a true impact top line player until his 7th season in the league. It’s a total shocker that Couturier was able to become the player he did. Another season of junior or a year in the A would have done him wonders instead of being brought up right away.

What difference does it make if two of those five years are in the AHL? The AHL does not make you get better faster. Adjustment to the NHL is always a step that has to happen.

Who cares what league the development happens in. If you have Kasper at 24 years old scoring at a 50 plus point pace and being a legit selke contender I'm happy and theres no way to say that was messed up development. At 25, hes scoring 30 and putting up 76 points, theres no way to say his development was bombed.

5 full NHL seasons to hit 50 point pace, is the exact same as 3 AHL seasons and 2 NHL seasons, or 2 AHL seasons and 3 NHL seasons. Who cares how it happens? If at the end of that time, you have a 76 point player that was picked in the bottom of the top 10, you did something nearly perfect. Kasper has also already played a couple years of pro hockey, unlike Couturier who went straight into the league from the Q, right after he was drafted

For me, it's simple: Let's wait until team-camp. If Kasper is one of the top12 forwards there, he's earned his spot and he should play for the Red Wings in the NHL @ season opener.

Unfortunately, time has proven that waiver exemption means the top 12 forwards arent always up with the NHl club…
