Has every move worked thus far? No.

Are both the roster and the pipeline in a significantly better place than when he first took over? Yes.
You’re not wrong, but try doubting a move on a social media platform. You’re met with comments like “you’re stupid” “what an idiot” etc, even for saying things like I dunno, Chariot’s contract look like it’s going to age badly

I wouldn’t want any other GM in existence and this team is already light years ahead even during his first season at the helm, but the prospect of not being able to critique his moves is a little odd

I agree that there are a lot of people who fall back on the, "Well if Yzerman does it, it MUST be a smart move!" and while that's mostly true it's not always the case. Every GM should be able to be scrutinized for their actions.

your first mistake is having an opinion on social media

That's fair. But if we're being honest, the frequency of stupidity on social media is pretty high, regardless of topic.

Even here, the few of us who didn't like the Leddy trade when it happened were given a pretty hard time. Its great to see that most have faith in Yzerman, as I do, but it is okay to disagree with something he does. I think we've seen more of that here with the Chiarot signing - not sure how it is on other social media, I generally don't partake.

There were genuine merits to the Leddy trade, and he did play completely different the first 10 games of the year (when paired with Seider) versus Leddy mailing it in while playing with Hronek the rest of the season. Seider praised Leddy and talked about their great chemistry on the Spittin Chiclets podcast.

Leddy would have made a decent partner for Gustav Lindstrom and proved to be a very good partner for Seider. Instead, a guy who was mediocre defensively was paired with a guy that was a defensive liability because DeKeyser needed to be carried by Seider.

And there were also a lot of people that said we could get at least what we paid for Leddy in a trade if we got rid of him. Myself included. Sundqvist is a serviceable 4th liner who I would love to bring back to Detroit (at a discount) and the 2nd in 2023 will be twice as valuable as a 2nd in 2022 would have been.

Anyway, this is a Marco Kasper thread!

Wonder if the best scenario for Kasper is to stay with Rogle for next 2 seasons, we are kinda set on center position with Red Wings

3rd line C position will be up for grabs after this coming season. He could also start as a winger for a year or two.

Wait, they are?
We like him to be our center, top 2. At this moment who he will beat to play center position in Detroit. ? Larkin , Copp, Suter , Veleno, Rasmussen , Sundqvist. I see 6 centers that ahead of him at the moment. At the moment he is top 2 centers in Rogle, and I hope Zetterburg will help him , just like Kronwall does with our defense

I don't agree Every move he has made is a good one but the difference i see is even if it wasn't a great move he hasn't made any moves that handuff the team. Longest term is 4 years for Chariot. He may turn out bad but its under 5 mil so in 2-4 years the cap may be significantly higher. Its not an unmovable contract and could even be bought out or waived.

To bring the discussion back on topic, here is a nice break down of Kapser's game by eliteprospects based on one Rögle's playoff games

This video brings up the question of timing at the end. I find it to be a really tough question with Kasper at this point. I recognize that he could play in the NHL soon, but I'm not sure if he shouldn't take as much time as possible to really develop his offense before coming over. My worst case scenario is that he makes the NHL too soon, survives as a defensive, bottom 6 C and never breaks the mold... That being said, the SHL isn't the easiest place for a prospect to put up big production. Kasper did get decent minutes last season at least.

He’s top 6C for Rogle this year so it will be a challenge. Top 6 centers in the SHL are usually good for 20-30 points in a full season. If he finishes below the low then we might be worried.

As for last season he got 4th line minutes in the regular season. 11 minutes a night isn’t great but at least he was a regular. 3rd line minutes in the playoffs.

He already has at least one season to refine and diversify his game. This can also be done in the NHL with coach who is commited to his further development, which is mostly the case with first round picks (and very probable scenario given Lalonde's background in player development ). Even if he just further develop his strengths, he will make a great middle six NHL center in amold of Ryan Kesler based on puck protection skills, skating and net oriented offense. I also think he is a stilistically good fit with Raymond.

Yeah, thats more important maybe. Everyone makes a bad move from time to time, but Perlini didn't kill you; Not firing Blashill early this last season didn't ruin the organizations draft position. Fabbri extension might be on the edge of looking useless but hey... again not a hand-cuffer.

I said it in another thread. He hasn't had his Nielsen/DeKeyser/Franzen/Cleary/Adelkader moment really yet. (Chiarot could be that guy... but time will tell.)

As far as Kasper; Hope he works out. I'd of picked Matthew Savoie but we'll see.

Last time I felt strong about a player was Dylan Cozen; we drafted Seider instead, so that worked out. Hopefully this works out well too with Kasper.
