Pretty much. When the game was slower and drug policies were less stringent, players would more frequently peak in their late 20s by remaining on the same level athletically as the younger players but leveraging their experience. But no longer.

Shestyorkin will be great, but he doesnt help the lack of talent on the ice. You would be putting Hughes out there with low end talent. At best, they would be the Eichel and Sabres of the last couple of seasons.
