Has anyone commented on how insanely lucky the tying goal tonight was? How that thing pinballed its way behind Georgiev is beyond me, but alas.

In addition to being bad, this team has also been really unlucky so far this year. I’ve been as hard in them as anyone but I’d be really hesitant to make any long term, significant decisions about the team based on what’s happening in this crazy season.
Yeah. I agree. The next break we get will be the first. But as you say, the team hasn’t been good either.

Might only be a year to go before Spencer Knight’s agent informs Florida they should go ahead and take the Rangers’ offer.

I haven’t caught a rangers game this yet this year so I’m just stat watching but what the heck is going on with Zib? He had a covid right before the season correct? Is it just a slow start because of that? The guy had such a monster year last year.

I think Quinn just takes a liking to some guys and other guys he doesn't like from the jump and he sticks with it. He likes Georgiev, Howden and Smith. Doesn't like Kakko, TDA and Gauthier. Some guys always get the benefit of the doubt, others do not.
He sounds like a carbon copy of Sullivan.

All three games against Pittsburgh--the Pens outworked the Rangers in the 3rd period. We ran out of gas again tonight. Threw the puck away in OT which kept the same trio on the ice unable to change. It was a matter of time at that point.

Maybe it's the Covid with Mika but Zibanejad has been just going through the motions. There's something missing there. DeAngelo also seems out of it at times--defensively he's been pretty awful. The goaltending has been mediocre throughout the year. Then again we lose games late. Our energy in third periods seems to wane.

The team has its issues yes, but also, they are getting zero f***ing bounces right now. Mika set up Laf for an easy one and he can't elevate it, then robbed on the that PP one timer. Then tonight he springs Buch on a SH breakaway but he bobbles it. Those go in, and Zib has 3 points in the last 2 games. Doesn't change the fact that he's banged up and can't win a faceoff, but it takes some of the stink of of him.

Tony a -4 tonight but maybe one of those goals you can blame him for.

Panarin just misses the OT winner. Chytil off the post in OT game 1 vs the Pens. Plenty of other examples.

One thing that has nothing to do with luck is the goaltending though, thoroughly mediocre since game 1

We're strong at wing but I'm starting to think our real bread and butter as a finished product is going to be two superstar defensemen on separate pairs.

The 2007 Ducks and Devils Cup teams had that without a great center. The 1994 Rangers had that and had to trade for a great center.

There's your comparables.

This team is so careless with puck it’s absolutely horrid. I’m not sure what the official turnover total was but it had to be over 20 maybe even 30. Bread man, love him, but it starts with him. He’s got to be stronger at the defensive blue line. Far to often the D rims the puck around and the wings can’t get it out. Mica throws the puck into the middle of the ice as often as a U10 player in the defensive zone. These guys are amazing on offense but this has to stop.

Things that are making it impossible for the team to win.

1. Terrible coaching. Again we see Mica out there for defensive zone starts and the guy can’t win face offs- I won’t kill Quinn for this because none of the centers can. I will say this team has not been able to win face offs since Quinn arrived.
2. Far below average goaltending. Both guys are below .900 save percentage and can’t make big stops. If this continues it will( and may already have) demoralize this team.
3. Atrocious 3rd pair on D. Smith, Johnson, Tony, have all proven incapable of defending or even giving the coach any decent minutes. Something has to be done here because it’s painfully clear this will not work.

By the way, how great does Miller look?!? Been saying the guy was destined for stardom since the pick. Looks incredible each shift!

By the way that’s 6 count them 6 first round pick forwards drafted or traded for and not one is making an everyday impact for this club under this coach.

Chytil would be 7 but even he didn’t figure it out until knoblauch got a hold of him. Comes up dominates and within a couple weeks he’s on the third line. Getting no mins again

While I agree with the sentiment here, just for clarity sake, pretty sure K’Andre Miller was a first round pick and he looks amazing. By the way, could not agree more with your original point that under developing talent is a hallmark of David Quinn.

Im also going to add that I believe the reason these guys are being underdeveloped is because they’ve all been rushed to the NHL. This new age idea of “ just put everyone into the NHL right away,” is not working. With Kappo and Laf I see how most organizations would go with the notion of just get them in the NHL type mindset but the learning curve is ENORMOUS! Just because these guys dominated at earlier levels does not guarantee that will translate over. Skill sets are the biggest precursor for success and to me, Laf is light years ahead of Kappo. Kappo is slow and Laf is not. Every single talent needs to be looked at in terms of “ do they have the skill set( mostly speed and ability to think the game) to handle NHL minutes.

Yeah, and we as a team isn’t really getting as much time as we did last season on the PP.

I don’t think we once this year has lined up with a leftie on the right side and a righty on the left side. Strome and Panarin has been put on the right side. This means that it’s harder to find those guys since the angles just get tougher.

We are trying a lot of quit hard cross ice passes, and even when we manage to get wood on them it’s often so-so shots.

DQ should make up his mind what he wants more, a shoot first PP or a functioning PP and scoring stars. This is designed to make them short more and move the puck faster. I am just not seing the advantages.

I hear a lot a moaning about the 19 year old kids and how the coach is ruining them, but the real concern should be vets like Strome, Zibby, JJ, Smith, CK and Trouba that are either bad or invisible. These are the leaders. They are supposed to take the reins and not put too much pressure on the kids to produce.
Let's be honest, Zibby looks drugged. Strome looks disinterested and he isn't nearly talented enough to not give 100%. CK is the Roberto Duran of the NHL. Trouba is busy counting the $ he isn't earning.
The least of this teams problems are the kids.
