His decisionmaking is what it always was. He was learning how to deal with the completely new defensive system. All of the outlet passes were different, all of the positioning was different. It is a massive, massive change and your absolutely discounting the effect it had on him as a player.

Again it's obvious it was the system. You've seen a couple defenders make leaps and bounds improvements (Staal as well).

It's absolutely obvious. Again, he improved as the team improved. It took the team a quarter of the season or so to learn the new system. He was only bad when everyone else was bad. He improved when everyone else improved. His play was no worse than anyone else's at the time since everyone looked lost.

This happens in hockey when you completely change a system that a player has played in for a number of years.
