It was nice to see most of our top guys show up tonight. Mika is off, either hurt or still suffering from Covid and i even felt he looked better. Strome Panarin Deangelo all had better games. Also Blackwell looks like the spark we might have needed.
Why does it seem "little guys" get the tag of "spark" or "sparkplug"? A Sean Avery minus the shananigans? Eddie Johnstone?
Mark Pavelich? Speaking of Mark, heard he is doing well (article). Thank God.

So are AP and Igor unwilling or unable to speak English? All of AP’s posts on Instagram are in Russian, but he’s been in the league for at least five years, so I don’t know what’s up with that.

I think it's kind of ridiculous at this point. I know quite a few people that came here and learned the language quickly and they were older than him. Plus, it's not like he's working at a Russian restaurant on Brighton Beach.

I'm part of the community so I know what I'm talking about.

You always see him talking and laughing with his teammates, a lot of people say Panarin’s English is much better than he lets on. He was talking in Lafreniere’s ear after the game when they were standing around on the ice last night, and in another game he was as well. I don’t get why he pretends to not speak English, I’ve seen people say it’s so he doesn’t get taken out of context during interviews

Was happy to be the only person who gave Smith a vote. I don't even like Smith. I think he's only worthy of playing because we have no other options. But this was a good game for him.

In foreseeing this problem, some believe the smart idea would have been to make do without Chris Kreider and his $6.5m cap hit, and have traded him for a haul at the deadline, and then give that money to Buch.

Yet the answer to these concepts always seems to be "they can't do that." "They have to keep him."
That is my answer because I believe that there is no intention to trade him. They did not sign him to a long term deal just to move him. Then there are the NTC and NMC to deal with. And the fact that Bucnevich's contract due will come before Kreider is easier to move.
You're right, that money will have to come from somewhere. They aren't gonna be able to keep someone they want, eventually. At some point the team is gonna have to make the hard decision to trade away for value someone that they foresee losing, before that player walks in free agency for nothing, and suffer a period of time without him on the ice until a replacement can be procured.

I suggested that be Kreider; Buch would be next on my list of easy suggestions along with DeAngelo. If it's not Buch, and you say it won't be Kreider, I'm not sure who you think it's gonna be.
Which is why I said it maybe a hard decision, all stemming on whether or not you believe that Buch will continue to blossom.
But Kakko will never be moved before we are quite sure of his trajectory; and that day will not arrive before a decision on a long term deal has to be made on Buch.
What does any of this have to do with Kakko? Who is saying that he will be moved?

Not anytime soon
I think he's potentially a trade furhter down the road (3 years or something)
Maybe further than that. But with all that said, the Buchnevich issue may (if he continues to take steps forward) will need to be resolved before that.

could be the diabeeeetus

I hope he's getting all the help the Org can give him
Exactly what I was thinking. He is somewhat limited with his stamina. Last year it was horrific. This year, much better. Apparently they feel "right now", they get more with less.
Hopefully 1 more year of conditioning off season will get him to at least play 18-20. He's young and there's plenty of time. UNLESS Quinn is simply making him suffer along with his stupidity.

I think he might just have a bit of a complex about his English. My dad is like that, for a 64 year old man that moved to this country in his 30s, he speaks decently. But he's sure his English sucks. Also, the interpreters suck. Yesterday's interview with Igor was a clown show. There's more of a chance what he says gets misinterpreted through that interpreter.

I would take fox off pp1

but I’d actually play BOTH of my power play units

ridiculous the second unit gets zero time

C'mon. PP1 didn't even had an opportunity to get off the ice. They controlled the puck almost the whole two minutes - there were absolutely no "forced" icetime for anyone on PP1.

Also felt like Quinn was riding his PP1 hard (and has this season) trying to get it going. Much like he's trying to ride his vets to get them going.
It's awesome to have a bunch of young players clamoring for icetime but at the same time tehy want this team to push for the playoffs and that means the top players gotta get going and it's unlikely they'll do so getting limited minutes

he's up for a new contract so yeah the trouble is figuring out how to re-sign him and not knee cap yourself down the road, especially with the cap uncertainty to some extent.

Wing position might also be a bit crowded with Buch, Kakko, Kravtsov, Laf, Panarin, Kreider and then others knocking on the door

To be honest in the cap NHL it's really tough to stack your lineup with quality players and pay them all

him on a 4-5 year contract worth 4-5m would be ideal.

Yes, cap space is always at a premium, but that contract would t be immovable either in 2-3 years if we start with cap troubles.

The minutes will come when we find ourselves comfortably ahead in more hockey games. Yeah, Quinn is gonna put his best players (That are the best right now) out there a lot when the team is behind. The goal is the playoffs.

Plenty of young guys have been playing a lot, there's just a bit of a log jam at the wing position, so sometimes Kakko and Laffy get the short end. All the more reason why the team should be looking to move a wing for a center, so that a guy like Strome who should be playing 16 minutes a game isn't playing 23.

Haven't seen the entire game, but just from my POV, it really felt like that one big difference between this game and many previous games this season was the ice quality. The hard cross ice passes stayed on the ice and connected instead of just bouncing around... A bit frustrating. The way we play, poor ice quality doesn't exactly favor us. And the ice in MSG has been really horrible.

Early season issues were just as much puck related as the ice. Players were complaining about the new pucks with tracking chips and it was found they had faulty coating. That's why it looked like the puck would look likr it found a puddle in the ice.

I go back to McDonagh's first taste of the NHL when he was a year older than Miller is now and had half a year in Hartford to acclimate. McD was nowhere near the level we're seeing from Miller. It's difficult to contain the excitement about our new LD.
I dont even remember Hedman being this good. Maybe I'm misremembering..

Hedman really broke out in his 4th or 5th season. I remember having debates with Lightning fans, on how McDonagh was currently better than Hedman

If you paid close attention to Lafreniere's mimics during the conversation you'd see that he didn't figure out / understood what Panarin was saying, just gave him a polite ha ha and skated away. Useful technique to apply in a loud bar or a club.

Hedman was in the NHL since he was 18, no? These couple of years in age are enormous.
