people have short memories. Schmaltz has plenty of talent.I remember when Kevin Hayes was a bust, and not cutting it in College. How did that work out?
Chicago Blackhawks Prospects: Teuvo Teravainen, C» Nick Schmaltz, C» Stephen Johns, D» All
As to LW'S. ...Maybe the Hawks should look at Dryden Hunt of Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL) ...6'0 200 lbs late '95 (19 years old) and undrafted...Put up 47 pts in 49GP in his draft year 2 years ago ...and only played 34 games the next season but still better than a point a game..This season he is 2nd in WHL scoring so far ...
Scouting report says he is a good back-check player and good fore-check and energy player and a possesion attacker ....he has short-step quickness but is not really a fast long strider...perhaps skating coaching can improve that one aspect to the point he can be a good NHL player...what intrigues are the 2 prior seasons to this one where he only played about half a season (injuries?) and still was a point a game guy or better then the explosion so far this year into big numbers..Anyway definitely worth further following.
One of the top free agent d-men next summer if his KHL contract is over) would be D-man Nikita Zaitsev..The 24 year old has good scoring stats ,some good size, and good +/- making him one of the best d-men in the league ..Coveted by a lit of NHL teams but rejected contract offers to come over last summer..So now that we are a Russian shop with our 3 Russians ....Maybe this player will sign with us if Stan pursues him this summer?
Not sure if he plays RD or LD.
There is another D-man playing in the KHL this year who I like...Marek Daloga who is 26 impressed me last spring at tge world Championships ...He is a Slovak ...Big guy.. RD...can skate..Good shot..Solid defensively..These 2 d-men should be pursued by several NHL clubs. .hopefully we can get one of them.

Nick Schmaltz with 1G and 3A's tonight against Miami.
Schmaltz goal, kudos to McTWG:

Would love it if the Wild had him. Kid is an amazing playmaker.
Did I hear some Chelsea Dagger after that Schmaltz goal?!?
Yep, North Dakota adopted Chelsea Dagger in 2009-2010 as the goal celebration after Jonathan Toews invited the UND hockey team that included his brother David Toews to attend a Blackhawks game since they were playing in a tournament near Chicago.
The hockey team liked it so much that they requested it to be the goal celebration. It's stuck since then.
Anything on Pokka? I'm just stats watching but he seems to be doing nicely with 13GP 2G 7A 9PTS +4.
Is a call-up justified (for the defensive side of things) at some point, or is it more likely they are keeping him down to develop with big minutes even with D woes?
Yesterdays game was scrambled a bit. I wish the AHL kept stats public but:Can anyone that has watched the games recently post what the line combos are in Rockford?
The team seems to have some decent potential (very similar to last year) and hopefully they can make a nice run to the Calder Cup this year.
It's mind blowing how they got hammered by Stockton early in the year but things since then seem to have gotten back on track.
Schmaltz with a four point night oughta keep Fiddy pleased for a day.
