Jagr/Bennett was randomly mentioned on the radio the other day. I think that makes the most sense for both teams.

Dear god.

Downie going out and Jagr coming in at 50% makes some sense (if he's just going to be rotating in with Sill and Adams), and that works cap wise. Bennett doesn't make sense at all though.

Here's what I've taken from the last four periods of hockey:

I haven't had an ounce of faith in this organization since the 2013 playoffs. It took a few years to wane, so it's not like I had a ton by that point, but I still had faith. By that, I mean, I'd watch the game and hope.

For the first time in a long time, I've got a glimmer of hope, because FINALLY, for the first time since the 2008 playoffs, Sid is out there with a pair of wingers who complement each other and him in a way that allows Sid to tilt the ice against anyone.

And, now the fan in me is hoping JR does the same for Malkin.

Consider it 2008 in reverse. Malkin killing it with Malone and Sykora, and the team went for it with Hossa, the idea being imagine if we could give Sid a line like with wingers who combined would have the impact of what Malkin had.

We were there again in 2012. Shero punted.

We were there again in 2013. Shero went for it, and Bylsma ****** it up.

We're there again right now.

This team is going to have deficiencies. Not enough cap space to address them all. Only question is WHAT JR addresses first.

IMO, if it's L2, if the Pens can go into the playoffs where, for the first time in a long time, the gap between Sid/Geno and their peers is larger than the gap between their respective linemates, then even someone as jaded as myself would have hope for the first time in a long time that anything is possible.

I want to see someone replace Kunitz on Malkin's wing.

Yeah, that's the team's most pressing need, and it's not even close. It would be nice to improve the defense and bottom six, but the Pens won't win a cup (or even really compete for one) with this second line, not with the type of teams we're going to have to go through.

So Farnham got Lindrosed today. Didn't look good.

Then again, Jokinen got Hortoned yesterday and he's in there tonight.

Finally, Rinaldo was Fedoruked by Chimera after charging some guy. Not real broken up about that one.

Do you honestly believe this team is as good as 13? The team that had JJ a healthy scratch.

I know Comeau had 2 goals last game, but I still am not sold on him in the top 6 even for just the rest of this season.

I think the hatred of Kunitz overshadows that.

Exactly. Totally agree. The second line should be JR's #1 priority IMO.

It also had Iginla on the LW and KCD.

So, yes, IF JR addresses L2 so that we have a Malkin line with talent on the wings that is equal and equally complementary to Malkin vis-a-vis the PCH line, then YES this would be the best Pens team since the cup.

What some people fail to realize-- and unfortunately that includes people in Pens management and the media-- is that the Pens ONE advantage over everyone in the league is that they have Sid and Geno.

Honestly, whatever chance this team has lies with whether JR addresses L2 at the deadline.

If you take care of Geno line FINALLY Sid has been taken care of, there's always going to be a chance.

If you set up one or both of Sid and Geno to fail in the playoffs-- and right now, Geno STILL is set up to fail-- then it's not going to happen unless you get a once in a lifetime run of luck and opponents like 2009.

The roster isn't as deep, but the way Bylsma configured the team rendered nearly every player useless so it doesn't really matter.

Sure yeah, but that wasn't the point. That team had so much talent Jussi was a healthy scratch at times, now we have Sill playing...

It's not like MJ is some genius bench boss either.

Adams was playing instead of Jokinen. It wasn't because of how much talent we had that he was scratched.

I'm actually not sold on either, but I'd prefer Comeau with Malkin over Kunitz, especially given what Kunitz's cap space allows you to do.
